Just finished pic related for the first time (first FF). What an adventure it was. What are your thoughts on Final Fantasy VII?
Also, Aerith was best girl.
Final Fantasy VII
Good game, but ruined JRPGs forever.
>ruined JRPGs forever
?
almost every JRPG made after FF7 is a cutscene-bloated, minigame-infested slog that does not respect the player's time or have any sense of adventure.
The worst part is that fans of JRPGs after FF7 look at you like you're crazy if you think that the story is not the only real reason to play a JRPG.
I fucking love FF7, the music, the pre-rendered backgrounds, the wacky jokes like the whole sequence with yuffie, that part where cloud climbs the wall to reach the shinra HQ
We make that stupid soul/soulless bait in order to trick people into stupid argument but there's no game with more soul than FF7, everything in that game oozes charm
I love how Sephiroth get introduced in the game as this scary powerful mysterious entity, the game suddenly let you play with him in the party and he knows all the most powerful shit and you are like "holy shit he's strong!" Today there would be no dragon fight, there'd be just a fancy cutscene
The only real problems I have with FF7 is that I think it has pacing issues, the game never gets as amazing as the first 4 hours after leaving midgar and there's another drop after the end of disc 1
In fact if you asked me about what happens after the raid on junon i'd have trouble answering
The remake has 0 chance of capturing anything that made the original special, FF7 is going to be turned into Hollywood trash and you'll like it
The ending is shit but the game is great
I also quite liked the part where Sepiroth was in the player party. It helps give a tangible idea of how powerful he is in terms the player is familiar with.
I found it to be somewhat strange, but still ok.
>that scene on Highwind where Yuffie asks Cloud to sign all the materia over to her after Sephiroth has been defeated, but Cloud can't even read the contract because he gets airsick
>Aerith was best girl.
you are my nigger with a hard R.
Yeah, it just ends at the climax then
>500 YEARS LATER
Not to mention that it's set years before, so he could only be stronger now.
Finished it for the first time couple months ago too. I liked it was fun, one of my fav rpgs. Still prefer Skies of Arcadia tho.
It's Mediocre teir shit. FF9 is better in every possible way.
The characters look weird in 9, which is saying something considering the overworld models of 7
What? The end of Disc 1, the ancient capital and saving Cloud's mind is absolutely peak FF7.
Midgard return and the North Cave are also pretty great.
It's Mediocre teir shit. FF9 is better in every possible way.
Being a contrarian doesn't make you interesting.
>Yuffy. I wont even read that
>because i get airsick when i read
It became a story about the life of the planet. It ends 500 year later to show the planet has recovered from Sephiroth/Jenova's curse and Midgard has been taken back by nature. I thought it was the most appropriate way to end the game. The individual characters stories all get resolved in the game and Cloud's gets resolved when he BTFO Sephiroth in the last duel
Character designer has a unique style they leaned into, think of them as caricatures maybe?
Really good, but I’m not into the setting. I like FFIX because it’s more comfy Fantasy than oppressive sci-fi.
>Tfw there will never be another FF game with true old school fantasy setting
>It’s all gonna be anime shit
>Only the MMOs get the good stuff and you’re not rich enough to afford sub fee.
What’s wrong with the ending? The only thing they fucked up is by making advent children and all the other spinoff shit. The ambiguity was fucking awesome and peak soul. Go back and watch the cutscene again.
Thanks.
>FF9 is worse in every possible way
It really is. Well, almost.
- Worse story that meanders and takes forever to get going
- Worse battle engine that was slow as fuck
- Worse gameplay pacing that tries to keep you from playing the combat portions of the game as much as possible so you don't notice how bad it is.
- Worse class/ability system that looks better on paper but was boring in practice.
- Worse characters most of whom act like complete and utter retards until their arcs finally complete 40 agonizing hours later. - Worse aesthetic with lots of dumb-looking anthropomorphic animals.
The only thing I'd say are better in IX are the FMVs and the Soundtrack. And I guess the fact that FFIX didn't have shit like Omnislash and Knights of the Round is a point in its favor also, which would matter more if its combat engine wasn't such garbage.
I'm not trying to be a contrarian. I paid 40 bucks for a working PS1 copy and I thought it was shit.
-The gameplay is mediocre
-The Materia system feels shallow
-The Controls are Uncomfortable
-The music lacks variety and gets way too repetitive
-The villains are 1 Dimensional (The Shinra's greed, sephiroth to an extent)
-Cait Sith is a shit character
-Too many shitty minigames
-Presentation is dog shit
-Pre rendered backgrounds while look really nice don't make for good level design
-Every 3D model in this game lools fucking ugly.
I understand why people like it, I just don't.
Whoa dawg, I think you missed the point of the 500 years later. The point is that humans aren’t shown and there’s no sign of their existence, leaving it up to interpretation as to whether meteor/holy killed all humans because they were a threat to the planet with all the mako extraction.
I played the two of them almost back-to-back and I still preferred FF7. Not saying that 9 isn't great though.
I try to keep an open mind but it's just eugh, for lack of a better term.
It feels like they were going for faux-DQ and didn't quite get there, and this was before the merger, mind.
>-Cait Sith is a shit character
Every character in FF9 is Cait Sith levels of bad except maybe Vivi. Zidane and Garnet are alright I guess. Everyone else sucks.
You hear the voices of children playing and laughing though.
I like it.
Tifa best girl.
9 is better.
>Aerith was best girl
exceedingly based
I mean at least we know Red XIII lived through it.
Why is 9 the go-to choice for plebs when they want to be edgy but also hip and Yea Forums-approved at the same time? I would respect you more even if you said FF 2 instead, because at least that would come off like a genuine opinion.
it was alright
when playing the games in order, it didn't stand out as anything more positive than the rest
kind of more negative really, given how clunky it was
How contrarian do you have to be to respect people because they like a genuinely bad video game over good ones?
I like the setting of 9 way more.
The games are otherwise pretty equal in my mind.
Could be Red XIII’s kids? And you hear it for a split second after the rest of the movie is over. It was supposed to be ambiguous so maybe they survived, maybe they didn’t.
That’s right, but he’s not human.
It's either 9 or 6 and at least 6 has Terra.
I think its just simply that they wanted us feeling this vagueness where we didn't know if the characters survived, but at the same time they wanted to assure us that our efforts weren't for *nothing* and the planet ultimately still lives.
2 is about the only entry in series that is less compelling than 7
>Aerith was best girl.
Tifa certainly thought so
Every other Final Fantasy is better than 7.
Any other game is better than Final Fantasy 7.
>yuri
YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWN
Summoning Holy saves the planet no matter what, but may also cause Humanity’s destruction. Here’s a quote
Bugenhagen
"Holy... the ultimate White Magic. Magic that might stand against
Meteor. Perhaps our last hope to save the planet from Meteor."
"If a soul seeking Holy reaches the planet, it will appear."
"Ho Ho Hoooo."
"Meteor, Weapon, everything will disappear."
(He leans conspiratorially toward them.)
"Perhaps, even ourselves."
Cloud
"Even us!?"
Bugenhagen
"It is up to the planet to decide."
(He floats higher, above them.)
Bugenhagen
"What is best for the planet. What is bad for the planet."
"All that is bad will disappear. That is all."
(He bounces)
Bugenhagen
"Ho Ho Hooo."
"I wonder which we humans are?"
They're both comfy/accessible storyfag games while not being FF7.
My favorite is FF4 (the original 16-bit version) but I don't usually shitpost it in FF7 threads because I think FF7 is still pretty good despite its heavy emphasis on cutscenes and story events.
>What are your thoughts on Final Fantasy VII?
Okay game but vastly overrated and has the most annoying group of fans out there.
>Aerith was best girl.
*best corpse
it can be the Planet. It's one of the few things in the story described as a kid and you can audibly hear it screaming in pain multiple times in the story.
Tifa best girl, for now and ever nigga
I feel like 4-12 are all viable choices to be someone's favorite, but a lot of them are also controversial for whatever reason. 9 is probably the safest opinion to have out of all of them.
>Aerith
You spelled Tifa wrong.
You still didn't know what happened to Cloud and co
hence the "was"
Kind of interesting to see the VII vs IX debate always come up when those 2 games especially are themetically and at its core so similar. Personally I love them both. VII has the edge in terms of gameplay, IX in terms of setting/graphics (though neither game looks amazing today obviously and IX has the benefit of coming later).
It was an incredible masterpiece with seriousness and humor perfectly blended. It had the best characters in the series and I love all of them, except for Priscilla. You're right about Aerith being the best girl. Glad you liked it.
>*best corpse
I think the setting of VII is pretty great, the idea of a global private monopoly acting as world government is kind of unique, and I liked the blend of sci-fi with 20th century environments.
IX is also good but more conventional in every way.
Also, imo the biggest weakness of IX is the forced and unnecessary twist with Zidane being Goku or whatever. It felt cheesy and halted the development and resolution for every other character.
I appreciate that both games handled a balance of drama and edgyness with lighthearted moments better than any other in the series.
It's literally a perfect ending though. Ambiguous with a hint of optimism.
Is it ambiguous though? They probably wouldn't show Aerith smiling if she was fucking genociding the humans from the planet.
>What are your thoughts on Final Fantasy VII?
Good plot premise. Terrible execution. Fantastic steampunk/cyberpunk setting barely used due to laser-focus on shallow 'chase-the-villain-around-the-world' gimmick.
Visually well designed characters, though caricatures is more accurate since they adher mostly to unchanging stereotypes that experience little to no personal growth throughout the story.
Mechanically a worthless grind with a magic system that makes every party member a fully replacable swap-in for any other, save for the limit breaks. The limit breaks you won't be using by end-game anyway as you can abuse a string of high level summons chained via mime materia to flatten anything and everything.
9 and 6 are both go-to choices from either console generation for contrarians that are too cool to like the most popular ones, but not self aware enough to realize every entry is dumb normie bait.
If Holy/Meteor/Lifestream/Whatever killed all humans then and there, how did Red XIII survive? Did they all just evaporate or get heart attacks? Then was Red XIII able to pilot and land the Highwind?
>feeling this vagueness where we didn't know if the characters survived,
The heck am I reading? What game did you even play?
It's too bad they saved the interesting materia for late late game. That really wasted what is an EXCELLENY combat system.
Imagine if the game gradually introduced counter and combo materias throughout the plot. So much better.
why is it contrarians
why is it not just every single person that didn't play 7 as their first rpg doesn't think it's the most amazing thing ever?
not everyone was so poor they grew up with the off brand console in their house
but those that did sure made memories with the one game per season their families could afford
>how did Red XIII survive?
It was 500 years later. Could be his proginy, or just his species in general having repopulated the planet.
Or maybe his species just lives for really fucking long and at one point due to shifting land masses and ocean water levels, a land bridge appeared and they were able to reach Midgar soil. etc. etc.
It actually feels bad when you minmax too much and end up killing Sephiroth in two turns. But I guess that's par for the course with FF
Tifa is a proper lady!
>t.retard
I think you misunderstood my point, which stands for the case that the depicted family was Red and kids. He was physically in the Highwind flying around Midgar when shit hit the fan. If all humans were eliminated there, how did he survive? Let's say that it wasn't an explosion that did them in, and they just disappeared from existence. Who would land the Highwind that Red was on?
let's be honest, he could have piloted the boat if there was a uniform that actually fit him
Tifa is a nice girl, but her taste in fashion is quite tacky. If she were British she'd be a slag with a heart of gold.
you are a retard if you like minigames and spending 20%+ of your gameplay clicking through trite dialog of a dumb story.
She sure is.
>Tifa
>looks like a huge whore but is actually isn't
>Aerith
>looks innocent but is actually a huge whore
Poetry.
Below average piece of crap.
Why do you hold this opinion?
