To me, I only use the term immersion when a game pulls me out of the experience due to awkward controls or annoyances. It doesn’t make a lot of sense to me to use immersive just to describe a games atmosphere or level of detail.

>inclusive

>t.fag
I have no problems with a game being fun, but if you describe a game like that, then it's most likely not.

So it's like selling a car by saying it's "mobile."

>he hasn't been immersed in a game before
Feel bad for ya, son. Maybe it's time to stop playin' vidya and get a life.

>he's unironically been immersed in a vidya gaym before

"Bad camera"
I hear people say this game has a bad camera, or that game has a bad camera. Just because the camera can't read their minds and position itself where they want instantly on their whims.

Sounds like the Resident Evil games

Nobody forgets they’re playing a game. This is why immersion is a buzzword.

Resident Evil has never had camera troubles because most of the games play from either a fix perspective or a shoulder one

Someone post the comprehensive list of every phrase spat out in this board every single day.

Visceral is the big one. I have never heard another living human being use that word
Hell I've never heard it used on here, and this board has raped just about every other term to death

The immersive term is easy when we just look at the word and apply it's logical definition.
An 'immersive' game is one you can become immersed in.

im•merse:
involve oneself deeply in a particular activity or interest.
If you can involve yourself deeply into the game's world, mechanics, controls, or story then in ways it is immersive.

Metro is an immersive series because the particular animations exist to make the character you posses feel like they, and by extension yourself, have a real presence in this virtual world.
Skyrim is immersive because you see the sights and sounds of a fantastical
heightened reality thru the eyes of your own mute character who can interact with objects and people within the world.
By and large, if a game has wide explorable spaces that at least seem sensible and fully fleshed out to it's established setting then it will be immersive.
If you can in a way feel like a inhabit of a fake game world then you have become immersed.

Are you fucking retarded? "Optional" means everything. Optional content cannot make a game worse no matter what. By definition, you can just freely ignore it.

beating a game is optional if you think about it

I can call anything generic and it would have the same impact. It's a non-criticism used as a criticism.

Describe the difference between FC3 UI and FC2 UI. The easiest way to do it is to say FC2 UI was more immersive. Deal with it faggot.

"Visceral" always makes me furious. My friend told me doom 2 is more visceral than doom 1. they're the exact same fucking thing, it's literally a word that means absolutely nothing.
"Emergent Gameplay" is another one, it basically means the game has no actual fucking fun in it, there's maybe a handful of games I've played where this term would be accurate, I think they're all either dwarf fortress or its bastard children like rimworld.

Janky is a good one.

Nothing wrong with janky, it's a million times better than unstable, unbalanced, or, *shudder*... unpolished.

You don't truly forget but you can get closer to the emotional experience of the character. I think survival horror is a genre that does this really well because the lack of items and equipment makes you feel a similar level of dread that the character would be feeling when they're down to their last bullet. Also realistically man, people have moments where maybe they don't forget but they get so invested they act like they do. Are you one of those fags that acts like your superior and says shit like "horror movies don't scare me they're fake how could they scare me."

How can you not understand "immersive?". I'll give an example:

Mass Effect 1 was immersive. You were flung into this vast universe full of weird alien species and mysterious planets to explore. I remember the first time I got to the Citadel I was in awe of how huge the place was. There was no dumbed-down, streamlined tiny zone with easy-mode quest markers and blocked-off areas. You were just dropped off into this clusterfuck and told "yeah, you're on your own". I spent an entire hour doing the stupid "Scan the Keepers" quest and loved every second of it due to the atmosphere and exploration aspect. Ended up picking up tons of side quests along the way and didn't progress the main story for days. Even if the combat sucked, driving the Mako was finicky, and most side planets were similar, I still really enjoyed it due to the context behind the quests. The developers did a great job of developing characters and introducing the Mass Effect universe. Ultimately, the game was great due to the immersion.

Then, as new entries in the series started coming out, Bioware tried to streamline the game to appeal to normalfags on consoles while doing their best not to offend anyone. In the end we got Mass Effect: Andromeda. There was no immersion since it was just a steaming pile of shit made by SJW developers with no passion or heart. They basically made the game as idiot-proof as possible and removed any player choice that could serve to make the story or character development interesting. I'm still mad about this and wish I could go back to being a teen playing the original Mass Effect for the first time.

unless you're high

You can loose the track of time when in a game, when you need to use most of your senses (well really vision and earing but whatever), you fear for the life of your character like you would fear for your own, that's immersion for me. In technical terms, that would mean a very minimal UI (with auto-hide) or a "realist" UI (think of the map in Far Cry 2 and Metro Exodus), not a lot of automatic mechanics (you're making the decisions, not the game) and ideally a challenging experience.

The only things that are immersive are properly done open world games packed with mods

Games dont have the capability to be truely immersive until the graphics and processing power available to the masses improves

As a gamedev, one of my worst pet peeves is floaty, because of how meaningless it is. A game can be floaty if there's too much aerial acceleration. A game can be floaty if there's too little aerial acceleration. A game can be floaty because there's too little ground friction. A game can be floaty because of input delay. A game can be floaty because the gravity is too low. There's so many different meanings to floaty and half of them are contradictory. Find another word to use when describing games or at least try to describe the particular aspect of movement that feels floaty if nothing else.
