It does some things less badly, for example by having fewer useless powers, but the story is more "american movie" and the combat is more mindless and reactive.

Looking at this trend, a Prototype 3 will theoretically feature a protagonist that's neither, maybe some everyman or a hobo.

best thing storywise might just be to call IT PROTOTYPE RETURNS or something and ignore 2 completely while vaguely hinting at something similar having happened.

It was the crowning example, but many moves removed were situational at best, and often had such shit recovery they would see you battered if you used them in a crowd or against a creature with super armor.

it's actually interesting because he's a blank slate at the start but he quickly latches on to his mission of protecting his sister as its the only connection to know of at the start. My personal theory, which I think is alluded to, is that the reason Mercer is more moral is the first two people he eats are basicly regular Blackwatch soldiers/americans with a sense of duty and a dedication to a greater cause, which infected his personality. Frankly the whole memory angle, consumtion of people and memories and how it affects him is a pretty cool thing.
And yeah it was cool how even the Virus was disgusted with OG-mercers behavior with unleashing the virus

Holy fuck, token minority characters ruin everything. Not because they're minorities, but because they're TOKEN minorities. With all that's been said is P2 ultimately worth it? P1 was fun absorbing entire military bases stealthily and doing absurd stunts, plus TAGAAAAAART was great, but once the infection started to spread it got more annoying because of those dumb dog-esque enemies. If you like the general parkour and electrical powers, yeah. inFamous 1 is rough around the edges but 2 evens them out and the world is a bit nicer (Though Good's powers are a mixed bag while Evil is mostly underpowered). The story is enjoyable in 1 as well even though Cole is a bit of an asshole. If you end up liking 2 then get Blood Festival, it's basically 2's world but you have vampire powers and it's a lot of fun. Second Son and First Light are okay but they're both super short even if the gameplay has been improved even more, and in SS most of the abilities are worthless compared to Neon.

Prototype 1 was fine on the 360 but if framerate bothers you probably best to get it on PC. The most fun part about it besides stealth kills is gliding around finding people to absorb and using some of the various abilities like Musclemass to turn people into paste as you throw them or kicking people away. The use of random civvies to heal was pretty hilarious when you consider people are wandering around like nothing's going on as monsters are running around eating people just so you can eat them to heal. MC's a complete asshole for a majority of the game and the story's there basically to justify turning people into paste, but it's still fun overall.
Personally the game got less fun the more I progressed simply because the infection spreading caused way more of the annoying monsters to spawn chasing you forever or the soldiers had pylons seemingly every five feet triggering them and sending helicopters after you. That's not to say you couldn't still have fun though. Still need to play 2 so no comment on that one.
