because I'm busy saving pictures of Nene
All I've got with me atm is a MacBook. What could I even make with such weak-ass components?
Because I don't want to take the risk of being a financial burden if I fail.
You don't need a 2080TI to write code.
Nenecchi is so cute.
This MacBook struggles to do anything. It's a Retina 2014. I'm waiting a few weeks for my rig before I start.
I could maybe make some 2D shit, or some webshit? I'm a smol enginefag
yes she is
That's not what Yanderedev thinks
awful attitude to have.
you need a toaster as a baseline, i have an even older laptop than that i use when i'm in bed.
My 2011 and 2015 macbooks can run placeholder graphics while working on game logic etc.
Fuck it, I've got nothing better to do. I'll start now.
>Visual Studio is on Mac
neat

are Cute gfs paradise or are they fucking annoying in 3d land.
Nenecchi fell for shark meme.
I'm seriously busy wagecucking. I'm not even sure why.
3D can't compete with Nene so what's the point?
I don't know how to code beyond what I did on my C64 as a kid.
I make dumb little things that I delete a few days after making them. I want to seriously make a fun, co-op shooter to play with my friends but I lack any motivation what-so-ever
so guys, gimme some ideas of a game i can make with csharp.
something with a bit of interesting logic to it, otherwise i'll just make a jrpg
>literally every Nene doujin is tagged with "deflowering"
I'm glad every artist knows that she is a pure virgin
Remake Supaplex
let go
Make a JRPG.
Dumb Nenecchi spending her money for stupid toys again.
But I am working on my indie game.
I don't know how to code, which one should a retard like me learn?
rikolino
Bless you; I've nut like twice to your stuff but I always stay engaged and continue playing because I care for my little kobold fucker.
sabrasongo
I'm very glad to hear that, user! New art is coming soon™, and new content is coming this weekend despite the searing heat!
Shilling isn't working.
Also, are there patchnotes anywhere?
Because this fucking heatwave is killing my motivation to do much of anything
>literally just about fucking anything
>BUT it's anime girls doing it OR being it!
The map feature has a label for new things which remains until the next update. Patreon has more expansive update news.
It's her autistic special interest leave her alone
I'm at work.
I'm doing various coding tests for my game though
give me one actual reason why it's bad for shows about cute anime girls doing something?
I already made one and can't figure out what to do for the next one.
I've been making progress slowly, but I haven't made progress this week since my head has been fucked up from a number of things including this fucking heat wave, I can't wait for winter
I'm working on a indie animation instead
>The main parts of his code are intertwine with retarded easter eggs.
>all npcs are under the student class in the code
>Is too dumb to separate teachers students and rival in to their own class.
>Thousands of lines of redundant code.
>Decides to call his 5 year debug a Vslice.
Can I also make money monthly being this dumb?
good job i like the game :)
Is the game even actually good. I've never played it but I like the idea from what i saw a few years back. though with his rep i doubt he's made actually good progress since then
Thanks!
start watching video, reading tutorials, reading programming fundamentals ect.
you can do a lot with nothing, just make example mechanics like an Escape the Room game or a Top Down Shooter
learning about an engine will be your biggest stumbling point and you can do that with a phone
it's not.
imagine your average unity joke game, add generic anime models, and tank the framerate.
>Programming with Scratch
I bet she's also planning to build her dream house with legos.
I gave up
The sprite stuff is so boring and I'm not even good at it
I am making an RPG maker game cuz I can't code for shit
hello ESL.
It's an EFL joke to be quite honest senpai
Maybe you don't know that Scratch is a programming environment?
Nigger, it's C++.
i did, the joke was so bad i assumed it was an ESL trying to look smart while failing to read the sub properly. Mistaking "with" with "from" is not minor so the joke doesn't really work.
Imagine living in the desert like me, no motivation to do anything for the past 15 years.
If RPG Maker allowed you to crack into the code like Game Maker I'd use it. Fuck that plugin shit.
Maybe you're just a fun hater
maybe you need to get better jokes you dumb tomato.
But i do, animeposter-kun.
Where can I download Nene Quest?
Maybe moe anime has rotted your brain.
honestly surprised the japs haven't made it into an actual thing.
I am.
MSX 2 programming is fun.
is that shit a watermark? i always thought you were targeting mobile and it's the punching button since it's usually placed right bottom of the screen and huge
i doubt he even knows what show his picture is from without looking it up.
I have a macbook from 2008 and I can code my game on the go perfectly fine.
Any good porn of that show?
I have 0 discipline and spend almost all of my free time procrastinating. Can't even put that time into having fun effectively unless I'm around friends.
I hate video games.
But I am
My laptop screen stopped working, not even sure how I can fix it.
>MSX
>Slide mechanics.
Unironically based.
It's a fact that penguins slide, so slide mechanics it is.
Also too much people base their thing on MM2 instead of MM3
Haha, yeah, that's just a watermark, my game is kind of too complex for mobile.
I don't know how to code, animate, or make music, so I'm just stuck with several proofs of concept that I've made detailing game mechanics.
>NeneQuest
>NeneEngine

"from the scratch" nowadays is just "download a shitton of libraries that do everything for you".

Stuck making BGs for my VN.
I've been trying to learn Godot to do a 3D platform for a couple months and I'm fucking sick of it.
HOW IN THE ACTUAL FUCK DO COLLISIONS WORK IN THIS THING?!?
Why things that should collide in theory often don't do it in practice?
Why sometimes characters suddenly just start passing through the walls or falling under the floor with no apparent cause?
I tried to learn from tutorials, but whenever I try something even slightly different (like just changing a collision shape from a ball to something a little more complex) everything starts going wrong.
Why should I be expected to take an advanced physics course just to do something as basic as character movements and objects interactions?
Are all other engines like this too?
I'm lazy
learn to code
Never use open-source development tools, they are made by autists who would think right clicking bringing up a contextual list of options is a sin against god.
Too hard.
lol if optimized, his game should be able to run on anything.
>Godot
>3D platformer
Unity / Unreal my man, Godot is immature and ill-suited for any serious 3D game
Because the source engine is a pain to work with and life punched my balls so feelsbadman
Only use convex shapes.
Concave collision sucks on all engines.
>function starts with a capital letter
what engine should i use if i want to make a 3d game on a toaster (512mb ram, 1.5ghz cpu) running win xp?

work on lewd games for easy money
You really didn't understood the post, right?
It's quite the opposite thing here.
No need to touch awful windows programming, no need to make your own image loaders, no need to do anything fancy with the audio, no need of wasting time with font rendering and guis and buttons, No need to understand physics...
The only boring things when "doing from scratch" are writing your own level editor and fighting the compiler.
Fem dev here.
Do you think that women would play a ikemen h-game?
I know there are popular otomes games that dance on the line of being lewd. But, they don't go further with it.
I would definitely play and make one. But, I'm it would be more appealing to more western audiences than eastern. Could be wrong though.
most game sdks are free

Amen, I can't get SHIT done this week, I just get home from work zapped and I just wanna lie down with the air con on until its morning

I don't take hormones user.
I have enough estrogen as it is.
Opposite of "based" is either "cringe" or "acided". Or, more correctly, "protonated".
"protonated" i like that word
western audience is literally = english language
if you have somebody to translate that shit in Japanese and posted in japanese sites they will play it.
Are really all open-source engines like that?
>barely getting over 30 fps on his own game
>it's not my game it's your pc
>smol
How do you take the step from being a lowly ideas guy to gamedev
All engines have its awful kinks in terms of physics.
In my experience, Godot is the less awful 3D physics, but its still pretty awful.
If you wanna go fast with any of em, you're better use a raycast or something to test if you went too fast and just appeared on the other side.
just like make game

Can you tell me you love me? I'm so lonely right now. Either that or a sonic voice clip.
I released a demo and it got ten downloads after a month.
It is shit so it makes sense.
Also the engine is fucking shit and heavily limits what you can do.
I might make something new that can work with the shit engine.
Good, now don't waste any time. Get off Yea Forums.
Someone help me out here I have my shooting function in the player movement script but my inventory equip script is separate from it. how do I call the rifle equip Boolean from my inventory script to my player movement script? Unity btw

The only question that matters desune
I'm not quite sure the human form is that liquid
>also the engine is shit
Which rpgmaker version are you blaming for your codelet status?
what game are you working on
I find C++ too complex.
I'm starting to program in C only, specially after I have seen this video:
Auto is literally syntactic sugar. The compiler converts that keyword to the appropriate type at the same time as template parameters get resolved.
Tried working today, too fucking hot, motivation at 0. Did some stuff anyway, but not as much as I would have liked.
Why abs?
Everything about the character looks great, except those abs.
I feel you, bro. My blog post nobody reads is going to be sparse this week cause of fucking 40 degree temps
because the producers will get set on fire
>C++
>OOP
you should use C++ as a functional language and write most of your game as a template metaprogram
Yes, indeed you can hot dog them, same with the boobs.
This is from my test build so the numbers for the simulation are off and I'm forcing the object via transform into the ass, so the reaction is a bit strong.
A 3D visual novel with characters from various games and media. It includes HD graphics, cinematic cameras and it is fully animated via simulation and IK.
I chose to learn C after deciding that I didn't like OOP. It wasn't difficult for me; I just didn't like it and C and ASM were far more interesting to me. Anyway, I started working on a 2D game engine in C years ago and got all of the basic stuff working, but eventually stopped working on it. I did try to get back into it a few months ago, but the code wouldn't compile for some reason. That's my reason for not working on my indie game.
Holy shit what a fucking retard
you don't know how moons are shaped? LOL.
The ride never ends.
Yeah, remove the abs. Just make it sort of curve inwards.
> functional language
Isn't Haskell much more pure and better for that?
Yeah, but I bet, even after all this time, you can still read your C code.
Pure functional languages are unrealistic because in the real world state exists.
C++ templates are a programming language on their own, and just as pure as haskell, but because they're embedded in a non-pure multiparadigm language (C++) they're actually useful.
This is a perfect place to ask. I've been trying to take my project by the horns and to finally make a kickstarter. I have sprites, an OST, and some official character art such as pic related, but I honestly have no idea how to make a presentable kickstarter. What do you guys recommend? I'm no expert
I recommend not making a Kickstarter and just making the game instead
i want to make music for an indie game
I see, I'll take a look at that.
Demo + nice trailer, although you should've already started marketing on Twitter since you had sprites and stuff
I believe that you need a demo for Kickstart anything, you'll have to have the barebones of the game.
Create something playable.
Those "idea guy" shits only work for people with a lot of name behind.
i'm partially shitposting
TMP is useful and something worth knowing but not something that you can write entire games in
good for generating boilerplate code but a lack of standard lib support means you'll have to write most of the metafunctions yourself or copy them from somewhere
practical C++ metaprogramming is a good intro
gotcha. i'll try doing that first thing.
From the thumbnail, I thought she was holding a stout knife
make the entire game first then make a kickstarter for it to rake in money from retards
Yeah, I can see that, the shirt and finger kind of blend together.
I'm currently working on a project based on Super Mario 64.
That nigger's talking about Java, not C++.
YouTube clickbait isn't a good basis for decisions like this. It's deliberately provocative.
A good basis could be, you know, how 99% of games are written in C++, and just assume that people smarter than you came to that decision reasonably.
Good, we need actual 3D platformers instead of collectatons.
Why not just stick with C then?
You use what you need.
And with C++ the ideal is to treat it mostly like C, but when you find something that would get too messy in C such as structuring your enemies, you use a class.
Now going full "EVERYTHING NEED TO BE A CLASS IN A CLASS IN A CLASS" like pajeet does is not much better then using a shitton of gotos and give you a result just as good.
I find OOP too confusing.
I see, it makes sense. That's probably the most sensible approach.
Because my waifu Hifumi doesn't make games.
Read a book
I still have yet to find a good anti-oop video that isn't just "I don't like oop therefore it's shit"
I've got the computer that a huge number of developers use every day, how could I possibly program anything on it.
All OOP haters are either beginners who think it's bad because they don't understand the point or people arguing against a strawman saying OOP is bad because it's not the perfect solution to every problem
The main advantage of classes/structs (its the same shit, except with one defaulting to public and the other to private) is how neat the code gets into it.
The most disgusting way to do it is not using struct at all, so you have
int enemies_hp[100],enemies_x[100],enemies_y[100];
Which looks absolutely disgraceful. on code like
SetSprite(enemies_x[curen],enemies_y[curen]);
With structs as in the C, you do instead:
struct enemy{int x,y,hp;}
enemy enemies[100];
SetSprite(enemies[curen].x,enemies[curen].y);
Which already look a shitton better.
Now you can do it better with C++ like structs, doing:
struct enemy{int x,y,hp;
void runenemy(){
SetSprite(x,y);
}
}
enemy enemies[100];
enemies[curen].runenemy();
Note how its only x,y now, not enemyblablablalbalbal, because the function inside the struct KNOWS you're referring to the X,Y in the struct itself.
I definitely ignore shit when it doesn't make sense to me.
A thing you'll run into with reading books like says is that a lot of the tools are for weird cases unrelated to making games.
For example, AVL Trees barely make any sense to me, but who gives a shit? I'm not running a database.
Even in C you can make a struct with function pointers.
Although at that point not using C++ is just being pigheaded.
because indie games are for babies. i've been working on my personal game for ~4 years now. i can't imagine spending that much time and effort on something just to hand it over to ungrateful spergs with batshit priorities.
>AVL Trees barely make any sense to me, but who gives a shit?
it's probably the most common data structure in my game after a vectors
your personal game is an indie game you idiot
thanks doc
cuz I'm working on my engine
literally the pic in the op
>Even in C you can make a struct with function pointers.
>Although at that point not using C++ is just being pigheaded.
unless you aren't looking to create a bug-ridden disaster that you'll spend more time trying to justify to your players than you'll spend actually debugging. static analysis of C is far more effective than C++, where it is prone to false negatives as a result of the necessarily complex tools.
With the structure with function pointers you don't get the part where the code gets neater.
I'm still learning programming though, art/sound talent I can afford to hire once I get to a MVP.
Also why do so many indies make the same game with just different art style or story? It's like 90% of indie games.
Why would you reinvent data structures instead of just using the built-in ones?
I demand pictures of Nenecchi
His argument is about trying to shove functions into structures just to pretend its C++ in some disgusting way, instead of doing something reasonable in C.
>being this pedantic
wew
it is built-in, im just saying, its relevant
...
pedantic? what difference is there between his "personal game" and an indie game? the post makes no sense
God moeshit is just so sad to watch, anyone who watches this shit must be at rock bottom, honestly.
Which libraries/compilers have AVL instead of red-black?
I thought they were the same thing
An indie game both exists and will one day be finished
i know, i see that happen a lot for some reason. there's almost always a better solution but there are rare cases where it's beneficial to do something like that in C. if you're making a prototype with plugins that are loaded at run-time from dynamic libraries then having a standard interface to access is really helpful. it's not clean or pretty but it's better than hard-coding and hard-linking the whole mess together.
I'll work on my podcast tomorrow I swear.
That's probably the best way to do callbacks in C, but you use for that, for callbacks, not for pretending its C++ functions.
Well, now you know they aren't.
Red-black are a special case of B-trees.
Because I'm probably going to die of a stroke soon.
an indie game may be created by an individual or a team for an audience. a personal game is created by an individual for their own use, but may be shared regardless. it's a matter of who is making it and who they are making it for.
not interested
I actually reached for that as an example because I'm currently trying to speed up my collision detection with them.
I figured a white lie to the discouraged user wouldn't hurt anything.
I suggest you use a spatial structure, not a self-balancing binary tree
>a personal game is created by an individual for their own use
what the fuck kind of game is that
sounds like a masturbatory aid
Not even that. It's fucking child's play to make a game with an ECS.
Somehow, some fucking way, yandev has gone beyond your standard uber-codelet, and has written everything into the main loop with a gigantic nest of conditionals.
>ECS
if you're recommending this joke to other people don't call other people codelets, because you're also a codelet
I need a new combat idea the ones I have in mind have already been done
Use your dick to beat animals into submission
Stalling because I have to get around to learning how to do basic 3D animation. Got all the assets necessary to make "Something," but any non-coding aspect of trying to make something OMA has been a boring pain in the ass.
Hammer that returns to you
A dick that returns animals to you
>It's fucking child's play to make a game with an ECS.
Not really.
It seems like this at first, but then you realize how ambiguous shit gets and how useless the guides are.
>sounds like a masturbatory aid
and? are you honestly suggesting people shouldn't masturbate because nobody else benefits from it? you're just arguing to argue, get a hold of yourself.
Animals fetch your hammer to you, but only if you dick them first
I mean it sounds really wierd having a "personal game" because you dont really enjoy a game you made yourself because you made it and you know it already
All of your attacks are delayed (for an ambiguous amount of time) in the space you execute them.
You have to attack and then lure the enemy into range, instead of the other way around.
>game im working on includes an MC who is a loli weating spats
Rip
You can't attack and can only dodge.
To deal damage, you have to provoke enemies to charge at you and then get them to slam into each other or obstacles.
How is ECS a joke?
work on a rope instead
Where do I start? People whining about how OOP sucks because its actually has some downsides and then hailing ECS as the new game architecture silver bullet despite that being exactly what happened with OOP and the reason people hate it to today? Or would you like technical reasons?
the technical reasons. Where I work inheritance is pretty much dead in favor of composition and IMO and makes code way more maintainable and easier to test.
IMO it makes*
ECS isn't composition. Composition is a general concept, ECS is quite a specific architecture
>People whining about how OOP sucks because its actually has some downsides and then hailing ECS as the new game architecture silver bullet despite that being exactly what happened with OOP and the reason people hate it to today?
Not him but you should explain that one too, because so far it sounds like a spergout more than an actual reason to be against ECS.
Yeah sure that's what's holding you back. The weak hardware you have. Certainly not your lack of any useful skills, original ideas, or any semblance of an ethic to get any work done.
oh I was reading the wikipedia page on ECS and it looked pretty much like avoiding inheritance and using composition instead
en.wikipedia.org
>CS follows the composition over inheritance principle that allows greater flexibility in defining entities where every object in a game's scene is an entity (e.g. enemies, bullets, vehicles, etc.). Every entity consists of one or more components which add behavior or functionality. Therefore, the behavior of an entity can be changed at runtime by adding or removing components. This eliminates the ambiguity problems of deep and wide inheritance hierarchies that are difficult to understand, maintain and extend.
Explain what?
In the 90s OOP was new. It was touted as the solution to every problem with programming you would ever have. Obviously it wasn't, which has lead to alot of people hating it (usually unjustifiably) today. Now people are saying "OOP is terrible, use ECS, ECS will solve everything!" Exact same line of thought that lead to people hating OOP in the first place. People never learn
>Why aren't you working on your indie game Yea Forums?
I finished making my game. Play it, its free:
store.steampowered.com
>Exact same line of thought that lead to people hating OOP in the first place.
Oh so it's just
>well scientists were wrong once so we better ignore them forever
I'm bad at drawing, but i refuse to work with other people, since they always cause drama and start to question my vision.
Even if I pay them extra do-not-butt-in money so they can shut the fuck up, they start assuming this is their regular pay and end up butting in anyway.
Humans are so frustrating.
I don't have steam, sorry
ECS is a flat relational database model involving arrays of components with fixed sizes and no coupling, the architecture itself is pretty stupid honestly, but it's not just "use composition over inheritance"
Exactly if they keep crying the world is going to end in 5 years for 60 years then you should probably stop listening to them
My bad. My wording was off.
Shes an underage character weating spats but theres nothing sexual about the game.
What I meant by RIP is that the internet will destroy her eventually
They weren't wrong. OOP was good, it just wasn't the solution to everything. It's silver bullet thinking, that this one tool is the best for every situation. Unlike OOP though, ECS is actually a pretty stupid solution for a general game architecture
>cute not pedo!
>I would really hate it if you sexualized her!
I dunno dude, just reading the wiki page I like it. I dont think it's the solution to everything (I do a lot of stuff where OOP gets me really close to theoretical lower bound performance), but I definitely see how ECS could be better in some situations.
ECS is based on components in arrays which makes them fast to iterate over. That's the whole idea. The problem is it makes them difficult to couple with each other because they're represented as a flat database instead of a hierarchy, which is the natural way to represent game objects. And when has anyone ever had preformance problems iterating over every game object? It's a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. If you have large amounts of objects you should use special cases like particle systems. It's a bad idea for a general purpose game system, which is usually a few hundred objects with complex relations to other objects
incorporate war doctrine into the combat, even if it is individual combat. the economy of force, maneuverability, momentum, supply lines, and morale were all more important historically than the skill of individual soldiers. as nearly every game uses an attrition-oriented combat system, i think an objective-oriented combat system would be a breath of fresh air.
those aren't relevant for individual combat though apart from morale
those are grand strategy type concerns
>He is not a Pascal bro

Whats the game?
Don't know where to start / too dumb
I'm still following tutorials for Game Maker so I'm not working on any game yet.
what i was getting at was giving combat multiple win conditions. you don't need to explode literally every skull you encounter, in fact, it gets pretty boring doing so. making enemies more prone to routing or surrendering according to certain variables would allow for more interesting encounters in general.
Please please please don't use Gamemaker if you aren't going to use delta time
You should switch to godot untill it is too late for you.
because I suffer from crippling depression and I've lost control of my life
im lazy, have zero programming knowledge, and suck at math, tried taking a programming class and had to drop it, gonna have to hire someone for the code, ill do the art
Level designer's block. Not much creative energy left after work.
I don't really know what that is yet but I assume it has to do with a lot of Game Maker games having fps drops on modern hardware despite being sprite-based.
What's better about Godot? I prefer to do less coding than more.
Not only a bad engine, but also made by phobic manbabies.
That pass is gonna be at least 10 on Mohs scale due to very high yike density.
Maybe I should start extreme gamedev induction tutorial series as part of AGDG Embassy program? And shill my games at start and end of each episode like that linus tech tips guy does.
we're kinda shit at making trailers
ditto, why godot? Looks to be much more complicated and less streamlined than GameMaker
"an adventure" what the hell is that logo
""""game""""
I am I swear, I did a lot today too, updated the visual fidelity of a ton of shit for proc gen pieces, and new lighting
lookin heckin nice there
you wan help from a blenderfag?
How do you code things that make sense to be objects like a video game enemies if you are avoiding OOP? I only have practical experience coding simple business logic, basically if statements and comparing strings from databases. I really don't understand how you could manage player health in a purely functional program either. Seems like a mix of both works well
I want a medieval battlefront-esq game but I also want the player to have some control over their side's units. I'm having a hard time figuring out how you could command such a large battle while also having it feel visceral to the player.
companion app
zoom out to a map overhead and have it play like an rts then allow players to take control of any unit on the field/give orders/etc. maybe let the player chose whether they should act autonomously or wait for orders
thanks homie
sorry man, the project's scope is already pretty tiny, but I appreciate the interest
number crunch good
>From scratch
>Using an engine
Pick one
yes you can sell sex games to any cumbrain horny retard
they are like children when they see a pokemon game
Pick an engine and follow a tutorial series. Then join a forum or Discord and start asking questions and prototyping random shit. If you find that you're good at certain things, concentrate on honing your skills in those areas, because you could end up being a valuable member of a project down the road.
>anime poster
>can't read
checks out
>Then join a forum or Discord and start asking questions
dont do this it's annoying as shit
In Unity how do I access a bool from a different script? It doesn't seem to work for me.
My eyes literally glossed over the 'instead of' lmfao
Just got to a cutscene that involves 5 characters talking to each other and I know it will take hours so I'm keep putting it off
>tfw you want to learn how to code but your imagination is so shitty you cant come up with projects or exercises to improve on
Because i moved back into a more stable job.
Obviously I meant forums or servers geared towards helping newcomers.
But I am working on it.
Its a new project though, so don't have a lot right now.
RPG Maker is great as long as you know how to use it, can find the right plugins, and you make your own sprites
command wheel that give general orders like attack (move towards enemy held points), defend (fallback to points held your team, prioritizing ones being capped), rally (move to wherever the player is and assist them), and maybe a reset that turns them back to their normal ai behavior.
we thought the subtitle was funny
I used to visit forums for the languages I used and they were completely plagued by new members signing up, posting about 20 threads with completely obvious questions and then leaving and the cycle repeats with someone else
figure shit out on your own or you'll never be any good
I made a grass texture for the ground so i had something to test with, reworked tile selection to use a bitmask for tile texture and properties to allow easy selection and modification. I guess the next thing to do is build a placeholder UI for the editor and add a bunch more types of tiles like water/lava/ice/bricks/spikes etc. May also work on adding some enemies. the art is terrible i know.
Can you explain more? I'm in the process of making an SRPG, and so far the only win conditions I have on any particular map would be routing or capturing some point. Like that other guy said though, all this seems more about grand strategy, or would be handled indirectly. For instance, by maneuverability, do you mean a large force vs a small force being able to accomplish different things? Like a small force being able to take a mountain path easier? In that case, any mountain maps could just have a lower deploy limit than a map in an open field.
Movement too fast
Too many ideas. Can't nail down what I want to make.
>I'm bad at drawing, but i refuse to work with other people
Then have fun never making anything good.
is this playable?
>invest months of work into something
>notice one core problem which will absolutely require me to start over from scratch
>okay this'll be easy I'm much more experienced now I can fix this and regain my progress in a week
>several months pass and haven't touched it once
Just do it, user. I made chess one time and had to restart when it came time to implement check, and then again with checkmate. I guess all of this could be avoided with better software engineering/structuring.
On that subject though, how are you supposed to know how to structure everything in advance? I'm sure you get better with experience, but certainly there will come a time where you run into something you didn't expect, and will then have to restructure.
yes though its an old build, a lot was done since then
renoki.itch.io
name is a working title
what kind of core problem would require you to scrap your entire project
Someday in the not-so-near future I wanna make a simple RPG about mushroom people.
What would make a good final boss for a game about mushroom folk? All I'm thinking of is "mushroom but bigger"
Edible mushrooms vs poisonous mushrooms. Final boss is the biggest, baddest, most poisonous fucker around. Go play Mushroom Men.
Resolution I chose ended up being too small and poorly planned for long term sections of gameplay, requiring me to upscale absolutely everything, redo large sections of programming, and redo all my graphical assets.
I could fix it in maybe a week of focused work but I just can't find the motivation to do it.
I've no idea how to effectively get my characters from Blender to Unreal. So I keep making characters, items and animations and putting off that counterintuitive Import-Export bullshit that seems to change or break with ever minor update.
I downloaded Unity and it redirected me back to their site to get a "license." I didn't know what that was and got scared. Haven't looked back.
Just get a psk exporter you dumb dumb
More fenrir
Please never post again
listverse.com
I googled "scary mushrooms"
because I don't feel like it
how do I make me feel like it?
because even though i draw up concept sketches and documents like every day i know i'll never be able to make it since the scope is well beyond what one man can do
Stop using Yea Forums and masturbating
still updating that soundtrack
right now I'm working on the soundtrack for someone else's game, though
Oh yeah, good call.
Death Cap strikes me as the type of mushroom that would seem all friendly on the surface, but is actually a irredeemable villain.
What would be the goal of a poisonous mushroom villain, though? Spread spores across the world? How would that affect other mushroom lads though? Maybe they'd be an immobile yet vaguely humanoid mass of similar Death Cap/a variety of deadly mushrooms that also acts as a hive mind and can make mushroom troops on the fly via spores?
Damn, I need to write this shit down! It may be a while from now, but at least I'll get a basis.
how did u make the bouncing tiddies? spring joints?
I'm learning SDL and following tutorials in order to make my own pong clone. It's more an attempt to reinforce my knowledge of programming and software design. If I like it enough I might just try to recreate the first level of pac-man.
Gotta work on it every day. Got the character models and animations done, half the textures done (Not visible here obviously) and doing scene models now. Most of the game mechanics are polished but the implementation of stuff like that is largely dependent on the schedule of the programmer I'm working with.
I'm gonna be honest guys, I'm not doing too hot. The game is going fine, but today a friend I had for a couple years tell me she didn't wanna be friends anymore, that I was a manipulative sociopath, a bunch of stuff. And it got to me, you know? I feel like if I didn't have to handle my own emotions and my own problems no one else cares about I would have had this done in May. I'm sad and anxious and I don't know how to handle it.
Anxiety.
Stressing over the story.
Stressing over my art not being good enough.
Stressing. Procrastinating.
Art takes forever. More stress.
Pacman is surprisingly hard due the AI:
youtube.com
I would say the second easiest project is a space shooter or a platformer.
The only thing I can think of in the context of edible vs poisonous is that the goal of the mushroom people is to get eaten by humans, and the poisonous ones give the mushrooms a bad name. Would tie in nicely with Death Cap, seeing as how nondescript it is.
>but today a friend I had for a couple years tell me she didn't wanna be friends anymore, that I was a manipulative sociopath
you sound like one
I mean, why are you writing a blog disguised as a gamedev post
I'm trying to call this bool from a different script to let it know i'm firing the rifle instead of the pistol when I equip the rifle in my equipslot but it doesn't seem to trigger the bool unless I toggle it on in the unity menu. What am I doing wrong here?
MacBooks are good for developing even if it’s all you have. Unix environment + portability + battery life. You see if you can use university resources to run compiled alpha versions on more powerful hardware. Most technology offices would allow you time to do so
I don't know. The comfort of anonymity here is generally nicer than my personal friends, I don't know how else to explain it. And yeah, she's probably right.
You're right, my personal stuff isn't important. I just saw the thread and realized it was why I couldn't get the menu PNGs done today like I told myself I would, or why I couldn't give feedback to the sound designer like I planned to.
The blue one is comfy
unless you have a working game you shouldnt stress over story
you probably shouldnt stress over story anyway seeing all games have terrible stories
also, I've been trying my hand at making it in gamemaker, but progress is slow
Honestly to get around that I'll just have them switch between moving around randomly and going after Pac-Man. It won't be a perfect recreation but nobody I would show it to would notice.
Is it easy to mix traditional html elements into phaser games?
Look up how to access variables from other scripts in Unity. From what I remember, you need GetComponent to get the script from a GameObject stored in some variable.
The video is probably enough to get you to a pretty close imitation, but its a bit big to climb.
I have a "working" game. Its RPGmaker however before you laugh at me it's modded all to hell with plugins and a few personal tweeks, custom UI placeholder until I make the graphics for them and everything. It looks nothing like and plays nothing like a RPG Maker game.
That said, I NEED a good story. That's like the main selling point of a JRPG. I have good ideas and really cool lore/worldbuilding, but no way to connect them. No central theme. No message I want to convey. That's where my issue is. I would be satisfied to simply avoid common tropes and jerk a few tears from the player at the end.
Particle simulation which drives the vertices, no joints
If you have cool lore and worldbuilding then focus on that instead of trying to shoehorn a story in
I installed visual studio and tried to remember anything I learnt of C# but I've forgotten everything, couldn't even do a simple quiz in console. I don't feel like learning everything again
God I hate that faggot
>Good games like WoW or Skyrim can be played in toasters
>Shitty walking simulator cant be played on a good computer because the faggot can’t code shit
i can't get the licensing for it
She literally did pick one.
Holy shit Kumiko you're retarded.
I don't want to code for games, but for a job but I've heard pajeet is hard to compete with for some shit. I'm a codelet, so what's a pajeet in this context and what's a good codebase to start if I want a lazy job as a sysadmin or some shit?
Indians just own programming and 3D modelling. It's just something they're really, really good at and Americans shouldn't be trying to compete with their low wage high productivity tendencies.
pajeet is a stereotypical indian name used with negative connotation
>Indians just own programming and 3D modelling
I have never seen any indian artists, east asians "own" the art market
I promise that if you've seen a game with a traffic cone or fire hydrant, an Indian modeled it. Maybe their names aren't in the credits, maybe it was by a shell company, but they are absolutely the best to do the grunt work out there.
these are some of your classmates
be nice to them or they might bully you
I am reminded of Chulip
I know that, just asking what it meant for coding.
So, is coding bad to get into? I have no interests and figured I'd give it a shot.
all it means is that indians take programming jobs. they're also stereotypically bad programmers
I have low self esteem and I don’t know if I could handle publishing my game I’ve worked on for years. It’s a open world rpg where the majority of the game is heavy world building. You aren’t some big powerful hero, just a adventure who recently joined the adventuring guild and exploring the lands and races around you.
I really should make a paetron for it so I could get more work done on it but alas I’m rather uncertain on it.
i've been meaning to play it
i'll go do that now
Man I love Chulip.
It's so comfy.
Build self esteem by sharing your game with others and listening to opinions
You can start by posting it here
I would suggest avoiding any business venture, publishing or pateron if you are a limp-dicked faggot with "low self-esteem" who is liable to make stupid emotional decisions and fuck yourself over
Yea Forums is literally the ultimate test for this
if you can make it here you can make it anywhere
low self esteem people do not get high paetron numbers you need to put yourself out there
why would they come just because?
Okay. Any jobs I should shoot for? Any particular code? I've heard sysadmin, computer science and cyber security are all good fields.
i don't want to be this guy
but if you have to ask then you most likely do not like coding
the people who genuinely enjoy coding are autist lords like carmack
Get a job at what you're interested in
sysadmin isn't programming
computer science isn't a job, it's a university course
cyber security is only tangentially related to programming and is mostly a meme like "data science"
I'm 33 years old and I don't know a single programming language
Learning c# right now. After watching a fuckton of tutorials I found a guy who I can understand.
im making progress extremely slow but one day I'll be ready.
Just asking, but thanks for responding anyway.
I don't know what the fuck I'm interested in, so I figure I'll look into this stuff. Cyber Security is pretty big down here - if I major in it I can get some nepotism position for 80k. From what I've heard its just telling boomers to make their passwords more complicated than "password".
Ass and thigh jiggle is such a rare thing in games. If you have it I will buy your game.
honestly yeah boomers are that retarded
go for the 80k job dawg
i've made more money selling stickers then my fucking game i spent 2000 hours on
Go for the paycheck and make coding your hobby. You'll be much happier that way
I'll look into cyber security then. I wish I had an idea of what I really enjoyed, this shit sucks.
You made something you could be proud of. That's not something most people can say.
Protip, it's extremely fucking rare for people to know what the fuck they want to do
name me the top 5 people you admire
the first people who come to mind.
i'll tell you
no it isnt
most people have a vague idea at some point in their lives
I wish I could tell you. I just feel apathetic. Ive been saying I'm gonna be a nurse for a year now and I still don't even feel confident in it.
But not as a job.
I disagree
you might not get that job, but most people have professional interests or affinities
think back to your childhood
what stuff did you really really like?
for instance one thing that stuck out for me was the red hot chili pepper's otherside music video i was like 5 and i made the wing lips out of cardboard and kept jumping off my couch
it seems like your mainly motivated towards money right now
meditate on yourself and think about what you truly enjoy
I dunno, maybe it's my own experiences coloring my perspective but I feel like most people don't get much satisfaction from their work, even if it's "what they want to do". Personal fulfillment comes from hobbies, social interaction, etc and work is merely means to an end.
I dunno, I could be the jaded boomer on this
well you are right, but that's why I said "affinities", people may not enjoy it but they tend to gravitate towards jobs they CAN do
Games and fictional books, but I can't write and I can't make games - reviewing and playing them is very oversaturated.
Definitely agreed on that. This user is trying to find a job he "likes" doing (even though he doesn't know what he likes doing) and I think it's fine to not like your work, as long as you don't hate it.
its oversaturated if your streaming fortnite or something
nobody is making streams of obscure shit
bros...make it happen, the world needs this
I'll try that shit when I upgrade, but I'll need something to shoot for in the meantime.
so............
you want ape escape 3?
notch came from here
pretty sure undertale too
And Katawa Shojo and VA-11 Hall-A for smaller game.s
it counts if its on consoles right?
BECAUSE SADPANDA IS FUCKING KILL
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH
Also remember, 99% of the content produced is absolute crap quality. So you need to invest time, energy and money; then you should be able to carve out some amount of viewers.
Starting out streaming might not be the best way to go, it would be easier to capture interest from a edited shorter format and then expand into streaming.
quick rundown because i was magically in every thread most famous devs from here came from
>notch
>genuinely was from here
>toby
>just shilled here and on specific boards like co
>va11halla
>just shilled here
>shojo
>just shilled here
>terraria
>just shilled here
>risk of rain
>just shilled here and made a few posts
risk of rain guy was from agdg
how can you be "from" a board
I convinced Jon Chey to check Yea Forums once but everyone was dunking on Void Bastards for having black people in it (rather than its lackluster content) and he pretty much immediately bailed.
notch had dozens of threads making updates to his game is how
he posted like 5 times tops and never came back
none of them did
that sounds embarrassing for you
Honestly it sorta was. He got over it pretty quickly at least.
im still here user
i didnt abandon you
He posted multiple times, even after RoR sold like a million copies.
BASED BASED BASED BASED BASED BASED BASED
no he didn't
he posted like 3 times and then promptly left
why did he never post anything about ror2?
go find the posts in the archive
the only post i ever remember seeing of his game is when he added the spike shield pick up in ror1
he used to post all the time on agdg
but when you become successful you usually leave Yea Forums
I can't wait until I am, I hate this place
that was like 8 years ago man
time flies
Can you talentless losers just re-make failed AAA projects already? Make Spore but good for example. I hate that coders literally need to hire an ideas guy to get anything good produced because they're incapable of imagination.
cuz idk where to start when making a VN
AAA games require lots of manpower so no
a one person dev team has to be full of talent to make a spore clone
Spore was a shit idea from the get-go honestly
Huge scope doesn't equal good game
Cant draw, write, make music, program, and i dont have any interesting ideas for a game
it wasn't and it sold fairly well despite the issues
What programming language should i study? Also seems way too hard cause I would like to make a multiplayer game
The one that's used in the engine you want
It was. You go from bacteria to a space-faring empire right? What mechanics does being an amoeba share with being an empire? All it ever had the potential to be was a string of connected minigames. There's no consistency across the whole thing
hopoo was an AGDG regular before he even started working on RoR. He posted a lot during its development, but slowed down once he had a publisher. Most of the oldfag devs fucked off to steam or discord or something.
then go find his posts on the archive
shouldn't be hard right?
What are some good engines for 2d multiplayer games?
MacOS is just a consumer friendly Linux in all honesty.
Learn to code. Programming on MacOS (from what I've seen) is a dream.
Battle tetris. 8v8 where a player on both sides plays as a tetris piece, and another is actually playing tetris. The person playing tetris has to keep playing tetris, the one person who is the block on the other team is supposed to disrupt them, the other 6 are set out to stop the distrupt-er block. You lose by the same conditions of normal tetris.
I'm not combing through the archives of an ancient Yea Forums general, user. I'll tell you this, the game he was working on before RoR was about a robot janitor. He posted way more than 5 times and was part of the community.
Too stupid to code.
Is possible to get into programming and shit at 18 if you only did the bare minimum of math in school and only took a single CS class in middle school? Or is it like a language where if you don't start early you're fucked?
its possible
I can program but I'm very VERY lazy and very VERY VERY unmotivated. How do I fix this? I also can't draw which might be annoying. If I can stop being lazy though maybe I can learn.
Can somebody translate this to burger
It looks funny
How do I pull myself out of the rut I'm in and learn art and programming to make the game I wanted, Yea Forums?
This. I'm trying to do something but don't know how.
Just start. I find the easiest way to break out of a writer's block type situation is to just make garbage until something clicks. Waiting for inspiration to strike will leave your ideas and concepts tonally mixed. Consistent effort regardless of motivation is what makes stuff good.
honestly it's less a writer's block situation and more a general life block, if that makes sense.
if you cant find something you enjoy about game making you'll never make it
when i was a kid i jumped at the chance to make any game before it was easy
if you have Unity and the Internet at your fingertips and you cant be fucked just give up
Is that your art user?
I wish.
god you're a dweeb
Tkmiz?
yes.
>if you cant find something you enjoy about game making you'll never make it
What if I can't find something I enjoy about life?
just give up
Find something you enjoy about death.
I'm in the same boat as you user
let's go out together
You know what needs to be done in that case user. I hope that you find peace and serenity in the new world.
busy trying to save sadpanda galleries
why would you save sadpanda galleries when you can just look at them everyday
I realized it was shite and scrapped it all instead of clogging the medium with subpar experiences.
>smol
hi REDDlT
Please, I just want to enjoy doing things that don't include escaping from reality. Don't do this to me.
Please, I don't want to go out alone.
Well, user, I don't know your situation exactly but you must face reality at some point or commit to escaping reality. There is no hiding, not for long at least.
I'm pretty sure making a suicide pact with someone else would make me not want to do it more just because I'd feel bad about someone else dying. At least we won't have to die virgins though.
>At least we won't have to die virgins though.
n-nani?
I suck dick at modeling
Why does it always turn into a self-pity party?
fuck off lonely homos
Because this place is filled mostly with people who are dead-ends as human beings. There are a few talented people here who eventually claw their way out, but that is not the majority.
There's literally nothing wrong with being a dead-end human being
it means your life sucks
I don't just mean in a reproductive manner, but they have ruined their lives.
Steam is dead for indies so why bother.
>inb4 hurr durr hollow knigh celeste dead cells
Those are AAA indie games. Real indie games are shit that you never play.
I'll make your soundtrack if you'd care for it. Seems like it might be a cool game.
>AAA indie games
lmao
You know what i mean faggot. A lone neet could never make something like those games.
>inb4 hollow knight was made by 3 people!
Yeah one of them literally ran an animation studio before so he was already very good at art.
You don't have to optimize code in 2019, modern compilers do that for you.
My parents are rich, why should I work? I'd rather shitpost on 4channel and jerk off 3 times a day and workout 2 hours a day without ever leaving my mansion or doing any work. Literally comfy af being a neet, I get to decide whatever the fuck I want to do. FUCK WORK.
Touhou was made ny one.
This is why games run like shit all the time.
>A lone neet could never make something like those games.
Yes they fucking could
jesus christ
it was one thing when indies complaining "oh I need a big studio cant make games without it"
but now its "oh I need talent and skill can't make games without it"
well no fucking shit
Nobody wants to play shit games made by people with no talent
Just because there was a brief bubble when they did doesnt mean its gonna last
>1996
Yes steam didn't exist back then so idk why you posted this. Nowadays 12 indies release on steam every day since gabe removed curation and let anyone upload games for 100 dollars. So there no way to get noticed unless you are top 1% in terms of quality.
Fuck off bitter incel
Now you understand why desert countries are shitholes
coding is hard
>neets
>talent
desperation homos shouldn't be calling other people incels
Alot of people with talent are NEETs but most NEETs have no talent
Fuck off bitter incel
calling you gay doesn't make me bitter
Fuck off bitter incel
I can sprite, but I can't wrap my head around some of these game engines. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but it feels like coding is just a lot of very boring busywork.
SOMEONE GIVE ME MOTIVATION TO DO SOMETHING WITH MY LIFE OR I SHOOT
>it feels like coding is just a lot of very boring busywork.
do you expect the computer to read your mind
DO IT NIGGER
WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR, PETE?
no, but it is very dull to wire up the puppetry. I'd rather just draw stuff.
Then be an artcuck and leave the programming to the big boys
then you could possibly pitch your idea, or hire a programmer instead.
There is nothing to live for user. You didn't strive toward anything to keep yourself here. Passing on to the next world would actually be better overall.
does she get fucked?
because my programmer buddy is currently about 80% of the way through moving and wheels are fucked for some bizarre reason so all I can do is texture a few engine models but holy fuck is it tedious
>page 10 after 499 replies
