Bad post release content schedule.
They wanted it to be like Splatoon, but updates weren't common enough to hold people's interest for long.
Also there was barely any single player content, and all the story and lore were given through Twitter rather than the actual game instead.

You could just admit you don't play the game nor followed it since it had threads all the way to the final update of the game featuring Dr. Coil and still gets threads every now and then.

More so than most new Nintendo IP like Ever Oasis or Codename STEAM.

It was a million seller. So I bet there is some sort of sequel in the works.

Please make a ARMS2. It was pretty fun, but I ran out of stuff to do.

The artstyle is mana for the soul, and Dr.Coyle, Hedlok and Springtron could make for a much more expansive story mode villains.

I thought it was super fun and still play a round once in a while, or party mode if a friends over. I think it wouldve done better if there was more single player stuff and splatoon wasnt released directly after

ARMS didn't have enough content at launch and didn't get enough post launch.
ARMS didn't have something like a Splatfest.
ARMS launched really early into the Switch's lifespan but didn't leave any impression like BotW or Splatoon 2.
ARMS has optional wagglan, but any semblance of wagglan can put people off.
It's a shame, because ARMS' really fucking shines in presentation.
The character designs, the music, the artstyle and even the lore ideas are all top tier.
The gameplay is alright, solid in regular 1 v 1 fights but the other modes aren't as interesting to me.
