The former.
The latter.
The latter. Sonic games were already pretty shit.
The former is impossible.
It's a better game than SA1 so the former option doesn't make sense.
The last good mario game
Neither.
>It's a better game than SA1
(not true, by the way)
Yeah, all those dumb Sonic spinoff games that existed before it qualify. Shuffle, Schoolhouse, etc
its the first Sonic game
Neither. Sonic Adventure 1&2 aren't good games. You're free to like them. Hell I like them. But they're factually bad games. Sometimes bad games/movies can still be loved.
2 words
CHAO GARDEN
You have to be a retard if you affirm the former when labyrinth, 3d blast, blast, drift existed before
Generations exist so it can't be the second one
>GENERATIONS
GOOD
Speed Highway and beta Windy Valley are the only competent levels in all of SA1. Also notice how Adventure apologists post this and only this webm
It can't be the former because several bad Sonic games existed before Adventure 2(Chaotix, 3D Blast, Blast and Labyrinth)
It can't be the latter because several Sonic games that were released after Adventure 2 were at least decent(Colors, Generations and Mania)
Sonic cant in to 3D. And lets face, it was mediocre to slightly above average to begin with.
>Colors
>decent
Neither because
Sonic R and Shuffle were a thing before 2. and those were total ass.
Im not counting portable games because nobody cares about portable games, they were all shit and inferior compared to actual home console.
Sonic adenvture 2 was shit for the most part, having a handful of "speed" levels with shadow and sonic wont make up for the rest of the shit it has.
neither, heroes is the last good sonic game.
Definitely not the former. You're gonna sit here and tell me that every Game Gear Sonic game was good?
Yes
i love red mountain though.
>3D blast
>bad
holy shit you have bad taste.
I´ll give you the rest though.
You'd have to be retarded to think either of these things.
Shadow is just an edgier, more refined Heroes.
Everyone should play sonic labyrinth.
>Sonic cant in to 3D.
Hate this angle since it's so bull crap. It's just that SEGA / Sonic Team can't into polishing 3D Sonic. You can't tell me with a straight face that Adventure, Boost, and Lost World had nothing going for them. As if it's a "good bad" kind of thing. One thing you can say is that they never refined them.
I said this before, but I genuinely think the issue with Modern Sonic is that we keep getting our Sonic 1's but never our Sonic 2's. He works perfectly fine in 3D as long as you're aware of what you're working with.
Neither. Generations was the last good Sonic game.
Those games are kinda over-hated and not worth getting upset about. Shitty ones like Blast and Labyrinth can be beaten in less than an hour.
I did not like Generations. Much preferred Unleashed and Colors to it.
Okay, but handwaving them away doesn't make them good either.
Neither. Sonic Adventure was worse than SA2, but SA2 wasn't good.
This is the comfiest fucking channel.
Labyrinth came before it and Mania came after.
It's neither good nor bad, it's middle of the road
>Isometric 3D
>On a d-pad
its fucking terrible
Yes, yes it was.
A solid 7/10 after many years of mediocre to terribad releases. Sega continuing to use Wisps as a crutch several years later doesn't change that.
Its amazing, retard.
Music excellent, challenge is good, its very polished and fun to play.
Emerald bonuses and no super sonic kind of suck though.
You are just a shitter who cant deal with the fact he cant hold right to win.
The Sonic Channel.
I will never understand why the stopped using the 2D art on their promotional material or box art more. They still make them, btw.
He's talking about the Geek Critique, the Youtube channel that made the thumbnail image in the OP
o
If the game doesn't have proper ball physics, it's not a good Sonic game.
What if the game doesn't even have spin dashing really?
Sonic 1 doesn't have spin dashing.
It actually got a director's cut of sorts recently that added super Sonic along with some other things.
youtu.be
It is absolutely not polished. Sonic controls like ass, the game is just a boring fetchquest, the levels are bland and uninspired. The music is really the only thing going for it, but you can say that for almost every sonic game.
SEGA needs to officially release that the same way they did with Taxman's remakes
And it's shit because of that.
Oh, didn't click on the video first.
I guess it seems they DID officially release it. Good on them.
Well bad Sonic games have existed since before SA2, like SA1, Sonic CD, 3D Blast, etc. But Sonic Adventure 2 is a great example of style over substance as well as being a mile wide and an inch deep. Aside from the weirdly elaborate Chao Garden side-game, none of the individual game modes are particularly well realized. The platforming is characteristically mediocre, the mech platforming segments even more so. The treasure hunt sections are a particularly jazzed up version of "Hot or cold". Consider also that the racing segments were directly competing with the likes of F-Zero, Mario Kart Double Dash, and the budding Burnout series. It's a game that does a lot of different things that are just okay. But everyone remembers the game's incredible soundtrack, creative locations, and crazy set pieces.
It's no surprise that Sonic heavily declined after that. Sonic Team never really figured out how to make Sonic style platforming work in 3D the same way that Mario 64 re-invented Mario platforming. But SA2 told them that a good enough style was a shortcut to critical and commercial success, so they focused on the brand. The problem with that was that Sonic was quickly passing his expiration date, and with the days of the "WAY PAST COOL" 90s long gone, the series would flounder around trying to re-invent itself for a more cynical decade with such laughable cringefests like Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic 2006.
Casual-tier opinion. Sonic 1 sucks because it has shit level design for most of the game.
Colors was decent. Not amazing, but passable. It also set Sonic on the right path towards having great games again.
>t. underage b& who's first game was colors who never played any of the "mediocre" games pior to colors
>any boost game
>great
No
Sonic 1 is the first bad Sonic game and they've literally all been shit since
>the first bad Sonic game
You can't convince me people thought garbage like Sonic 3D blast was good.
SA2 is garbage but the first wasn’t very good either
>that horrible, fat nasally voice
>comfy
you retarded? got some brain worms? missing some chromosomes?
Wait... people still think Sonic ever had good games?
Sonic Adventure 2 is one of those 6/10 games you end up enjoying more than a 6/10 game should be enjoyed. It bats well above it's means to be enjoyed on a 7/10 or even 8/10 level
There's been good Sonic games after SA2, but for a while it was the last good one.
>Sonic was quickly passing his expiration date, and with the days of the "WAY PAST COOL" 90s long gone
Disagree. Sonic wasn't once "tubular 90s" for me. People say this, but I think the spirit the series had is more genuine than that. I feel it's that SEGA hasn't homed into that Sonic. The Sonic now and the Sonic from the early 2000s are different. We went from a colorful yet mildly bizarre shonen-like adventure Sonic, to writers that arguably don't even like the series.
I don't think it's that Sonic *was* 90s cheese. It's more like Sonic *is* cheese now. He feels fake now, like you can't even tell what style they're trying to pull off here. We went from the cool 2D art of Adventure era, and the cute style the Japanese promotional art had for Classic Sonic to borderline cereal box mascot. I'm not arguing Modern vs Classic. I'm arguing how they handled modern back then, and how they handle modern now.
It felt like Yugi Naka's period at Sonic Team was the kind of time period where they knew what they wanted to pull off. And if they failed, you could still tell they gave a crap, and bare minimum it's charming. The charm wasn't style > substance, it just was charming inherently.
Why do people enjoy mech levels and treasure hunting? They were always boring and tedious and I just keep waiting for the next sonic/shadow level.
Emerald Coast, Speed Highway, Windy Valley, and Red Mountain are all objectively good levels.
I can forgive someone for not liking the other levels in SA though.
FUCK MAD SPACE AND FUCK CHAO EMBLEMS. That's every flaw i can find gameplay wise
>SEGA needs to officially release that the same way they did with Taxman's remakes
Actually SEGA needs to re-released Sonic Adventure with BetterSADX and Dreamcast Conversion mods built in.
>All the people clowning on 3D Blast
It should've been a Saturn game. It has stronger fundamentals in terms of physics and momentum than any 3D game. If only they had more time.
sky deck can go fuck itself, the only fun part is charging up a light speed dash and watching sonic go fucking berserk as he destroys 10 billion turrets
My first Sonic games were 3D Blast, R, Heroes and Shadow, in that order.
But... it was
Unless you're saying it should have been a fully 3D Saturn game, in which case Sonic Jam's hub would have been a better base
Neither
Sonic CD was the first bad Sonic game
Mania was the last good Sonic game, not counting that it's S3&K
>Sonic CD was the first bad Sonic game
Nonsense.
sonic R well predates that user
>Sonic CD was the first bad Sonic game
Never post again.
But user it's bad because you can't just hold right all the time, you have to actually apply a little thought and make use of the level designs to progress and get the good future
Yeah, that's what I meant. I meant to say exclusive.
Yeah, Sonic Jam's hub is practically what we could've expected out of 3D Blast in a better timeline where it was a Saturn exclusive with a bit more time.
>you can't just hold right all the time
You can't do that in ANY classic Sonic game
EVERYBODY PAY ATTENTION:
The "Sonic The Hedgehog" series is this:
Sonic The Hedgehog
Sonic CD
Sonic The Hedgehog 2
Sonic The Hedgehog 3
Sonic & Knuckles
The "Sonic Adventure" games are loosely based on the "Sonic The Hedgehog" series, in the same way that the Sonic cartoons and comics are, in that they are an adaptation featuring the established character.
The last good "Sonic The Hedgehog" game, and the current end to the series, was Sonic & Knuckles. The last good "Sonic (meaning the adaptations featuring the established character from "Sonic The Hedgehog")" game was Sonic Adventure 2.
You should have gone with Mario, all his (non-spinoff) games are kino
But Sonic Advance 1, 3, Sonic Rush, and Sonic Mania all came out after Adventure 2 and are better.
So it's still wrong.
latter
SA2 is the first and last good Sonic game. This piece of shit is so good that it made me play every previous Sonic game and almost every sequel and they all suck ass (except for generations).
>First bad Sonic game
Adventure wasn't exactly a masterpiece either, Sonic at this point had a bunch of garbage spin-offs and finally the very first Sonic game mostly sucked and didn't get good until 2.
Really I always saw Adventure 1 and 2 personally as "Bad game that grows on you".
Objective list of good Sonic games coming through
>1
>2
>CD
>3 and Knuckles
>Adventure(Dreamcast version only)
>Adventure 2 Battle
>Colors
>Generations
>Mania
>Triple Trouble
>Pocket Adventure
>Advance trilogy
>Rush duology
>Riders
>All Stars Transformed
>SegaSonic Arcade
>Mean Bean Machine
>Fighters
>Battle
This thread has been a shockingly potent brainlet trap.
dont you realize this was the whole point of sonic?
>Riders
Listen to this user, they know their shit.
There are a fucking ton of isometric games that use d-pads, what the fuck are you talking about? Tacking "3D" on doesn't change the fact that it plays the same as every other isometric game.
>But Sonic Advance 1, 3, Sonic Rush, and Sonic Mania all came out after Adventure 2 and are better.
SA2 being the last good Sonic game is just a matter of opinion. My only point was that everything after Sonic & Knuckles is adaptation similar to the Archie comics and Sonic X, and isn't the same series as S1-3K & CD.
>Adventure(Dreamcast version only)
>Adventure 2 Battle
I like the games but they're objectively broken and dumb.
>colors
take that out and you might be accurate.
whatever, autist. Got any proof? No, you don't.
>Sonic CD
>bad
Opinion discarded, didn't read rest of post
It killed the franchise by making a generation of gamecube babies think Sonic is supposed to be banal minigame shit sandwiched between proto-boostshit levels that all but play themselves.
Colors > Generations
Boost Sonic just has problems in general though.
Sonic fans weren't conditioned to think anything. Sonic Team simply went to shit in the 00s.
Didn't Sonic Mania sell well?
Sonic fans are retarded I agree but the autism was there even before the move to 3D and the problem with Sonicfags isn't that they prefer 3D Sonic but rather that they'll buy literally anything.
Proof of what?
It LITERALLY can't be thd former because Sonic Adventure exists
Also 3-D blast
Sonic Mania sold well because, on top of the autists, a bunch of boomers went "Hey, Sonic, like the ones I used to play" and got it.
Literally "They don't make them like they used to" the game.
holy shit somebody give this man gold
Sonic Mania is at least honorably main series Sonic.
Pretty much this. Just look at the amount of users playing Mania. It’s pathetic. Only boomers think people give a shit.
Colors is the best 3D sonic game in the last 18 years.
Generations is shit juice even with mods.
>Sonic Mania sold well because, on top of the autists
Yeah see everything else in your post doesn't really matter since the very first statement is just a confirmation of my point.
Nostalgiafaggotry helped a lot yeah but the point I'm making is that Sonicfags will buy literally anything that has Sonic in the title good or bad.
That you’re not talking out your ass.
I mean, you can beat Mania in like 4 hours or so, not a lot you can do after getting the Emeralds, completing Encore Mode and getting all the bonus tokens
>4 hour single player game from 3 years ago has less people playing overtime
Boy aren't you observant.
I'm neutral
It's the last good one that is bad.
None.
Sonic 3D is worse main title that came before.
There were many better games after.
However, SA2 is the last Sonic game that had both good story and gameplay. Most of the games after it has crap stories. Unleashed and Black Knight are notable exceptions, but they weren't as fun gameplay-wise (as a whole, Unleashed's daytime stages are fun 1/8 of the game).
It literally has the same, or even less at times, users than SA2. A three year old “good” class game shouldn’t have that few compared to an old “bad” modern game.
Neither, the Sonic Advance games and Rush were solid and Colors, Generations, and Mania are all great
Sonic Battle is also underrated
>be little shithead
>playing SA1
>get through big the cat with smiles
>play gamma's story
>cry like a bitch at the end
gamma had that shit rough
gamma is a little bitch and id dick his faggot ass
>Using sales and player numbers to determine quality
I guess Fortnite is the greatest game of all time now.
>Sonic
>story
I don't have autism so I don't see how that matters.
Werehog was such a chad.
Dr Eggman's crimes isn't something just to ignore, cocksucker.
>SA2 is the last Sonic game that had both good story
SA2 story was nonsensical schlock.
It's enjoyable with some really cool moments but I wouldn't call it good.
Hell, I'd argue Unleashed has the best story of any Sonic game despite the awful Scrappy-Doo character and Werehog.
this. Sonic Adventure sucks ass
Crazy gadget and sometimes faulty camera for me
fake but nice tyr
Which game had the best OST and why was it SA1?
>Sonicfags going on about "muh plot"
While the comics have been great from time to time and character interactions are fun, the story of most Sonic games have consistently been trash and this is very much including the Adventure games.
I think people confuse characters with plot since every now and then the games do this well. Eggman especially is a diamond in the rough being perfect in almost every appearance, at least in terms of personality.
But the actual story? Yeah no, most of the time they are dumb, make no sense and filled with bad dialogue and acting. Fucking Mario Sunshine did story better then 75% anything Sonic made and it was not only the first time Nintendo even attempted at giving Mario a story but it had VA so atrocious Nintendo decided to make Mario eternally mute until a film proposition was made and even then we aren't entirely sure if he's actually going to speak in that.
I really like Windy Valley youtube.com
but this one is also interesting
youtube.com
No Sonic game was ever good
Why did people turn on this game so much?
It didn't age well but most games from that era didn't
There are no bad Sonic games.
The first bad Sonic game is Sonic Heroes but SA1/2 while not bad were definitely a step down in quality and the beginning of the end. It's a bit like Resident Evil 4 in that it's not a bad game, but what it started would go on to ruin everything.
>Eggman especially is a diamond in the rough being perfect in almost every appearance, at least in terms of personality.
He is honestly too good for the franchise, no matter how bad the game is he is consistently amazing
>Riders
>Generations
Yes.
Sonic Adventure 2 was only worth playing for the Chao Garden
Both Adventure games mostly suck. I don't hate either of them -- they both have some fun moments -- but even the Sonic/Shadow levels are mostly just fluff.
I've got you ostbro

Isn't that just a 3D blast remix?
They were still better than the "Temple Run with 2D platforming out of nowhere" shit that made sonic games so shallow nowadays appealing to morons who think "MUH SONIC IS ABOUT SPEED ONLY" because they took commercials too seriously
just make a playlist and link that
First one is wrong because Sonic's Schoolhouse still counts. Second one is also wrong because games like Sonic Battle and Sonic Rush Adventure I really enjoyed.
If you said the series has been in a perpetual state of disappointment since Colors then I agree.
I WANNA FRYYYYYYYYY SKY HIIIIIGH
