Just to add something to my post, I like the design philosphy of Tim Cain and his crew (in Fallout 1, 2 and NV) that makes the player in the same level of statue or rivalry than the final antagonist.

The Master is the philosphical rival in a way for the Vault Dweller, like Lootenant is the rival "muscle" counterpart.

Frank Horrigan is powerful but alone against a squad of wastlanders and soldiers he is dead like the Chosen One.

Legate Lanius is literraly the monster of the East, one of the many nom de guerre that the Courier can aquire is the Monsyer of The West (you can even have the Blade of the West in Lonesome Road).

Is the Chosen One, canonically speaking, the strongest entity in the Fallout universe?

Yes and no.

He can do many impressive stuff, but more often than not, its strategy that kill your foes. And its the same for the Chosen One.

An unarmed build is powerful during the entirety of the game but even being ambushed by competent Bounty Hunters who learn to fight you and your squad is often a death sentence. Like Horrigan, he can rip Deathclaws in match but tactics always kills you.

The old woman you meet in the first cut-scene was the granddaughter of the chosen one, the pistol on the table was one she was given to run the temple. It jammed and she ran the temple anyhow. After she got out she said all runs now must use melee weapons and keeps the gun as proof of her run and why old tech can't be trusted.

As is 3. At least 4 got the action adventure part down fairly well.

Skills effectively mean all of jack shit in 3. There are no builds. You can use any weapons or solve virtually every quest no matter your skills in the exact same way every single time. Its trash. Even though it's really contrived, I don't mind the Enclave presence too much in 3, but the Broterhood's representation makes absolutely no sense. Even worse is that the Brotherhood are in 76.

They both needed specific perks and build to be viable (since you cant with normal means acheive level 20).

Small Guns required stealth and a Sniper Rifle to be viable and fun at the end game.

Big Guns tho... The Flamer is useless once you give the chip, critters get so much HP and you have to little ammo to fight. The Minigun is good with crowd control but becomes jackshit in Mariposa and the Cathedral. The only good weapon left is Rocket Launcher, but guess what ? Ammo is really expensive and rare.

Energy Weapons and Unarmed are too OP in this game, 1AP per hit for Unarmed and shit tons of damage to everybody. I clear out Lost Hills with Turbo Plasma Rifle and a Power-Fist. Do you think its balanced ?

At least Fallout 2 made all the major weapons types fun to play.

Fallout 3's main problem is most of their elements they used from the originals is "I saw Harold and I clapped" tier. They have the icons of 1 & 2 but don't understand the meaning behind them, the Brotherhood and the Enclave had layers and depth are turned into sterotypical bad guys. Now Fallout 3 contrary to Yea Forums's belief isn't terrible as it's atmosphere is good and it has a great environmental storytelling, It's just the writing is a bit ass, it makes me wish the main game was more like the Pitt and Point Lookout which are worthy successors in their own rights and proves Bethesda can do Fallout if they stuck more with the themes and ideas of Fallout and making their own additions into the world rather than mere trying to do what other people did but worse

Why did Bethesda do anything they did with the franchise? It's obvious they just wanted to use the setting without having to be tied down by existing lore. And so there's ways to retcon some things in that was all left to the fanboys while they just concentrated on making games. I think it was Pete Heines who put it best "Who cares what they say on their forums, as long as they buy the games".

Wow the Assault Rifle ? Unless you had max crits (and even then the engine dont register some crits) you had to be level 20 and get yourself the Ranged Damaged and the Sniper perks to have really good damage.

I found the Sniper Rifle and 120% in stealth is the way to go to clear out the end game at level 9 to 12.

Sneak is pretty damn OP in Fallout 1 and 2.

If you kill someone in one turn even with a loud weapon, nobody will engage combat.

I don't inherently dislike the idea of the Enclave being brought back in 3 (Hell, I wouldn't be opposed to them being brought back a third time. Them having bases all over the planet has been heavily implied to be canon since 2 after all) but they were just so God damn mismanaged that it would have been better off if Bethesda just let them lie. They straight up repeated the entire conflict with them from 2 but poorly tacked it onto the Project Purity story and missed a bunch of important details along the way. Plus, you have all the missed potential over the conflict between Autumn and Eden which on its own would have been better than the Enclave fighting the good guy Brotherhood. Its a shame, really.

Tandi was basically an isoliationist, she only annexed towns and settellements of they asked for it. In contrast to Kimball and Oliver who become Imperialsit and force everyone to be in NCR juridiction.

Perfect exemple of how Tandi handled annexion is the case of Vault City. The city have to asked for help due to radiation or raiders, depending on The Chosen One action. She always choose cooperation over forced annexion, see the Vault 15 situation. And thats why she was popular.

tactics is a wierd one, it's gunplay is clunky and infuriating at times, but that's what makes it feel so good when you finally learn how to set up ambushes and destory shit without getting shot.
