To everyone praising it as the second coming of Jesus in gaming I have a question: Did you play the first one? Aside from the gameplay I really don't feel like anything else was an improvement at all and was pretty damn disappointing for people expecting payoff from plot threads in the first game. Even as a standalone it doesn't really go anywhere and is more just them coming to terms with their emotions, and when the characters to me were far less compelling this is an even weaker aspect that the story puts prime focus on
Also,
>lol we didn't actually animate the endings so here's some text telling you what happened lol and some shoot-em-up section that makes no fucking sense

I did play the first one, and I liked them both pretty much equally. Automata's music and gameplay were a bit more to my liking though.

This is one of these games that would have been way better if Westerners made it since the characters wouldn't be cringy pedo fapbait.

What's wrong with the dress exactly?

clever

I played the first one after Automata, total noob to the series thinking Automata was the first one until I found out about Gestalt/Replicant.
As much as I still love Automata, I feel like Gestalt/Replicant was a lot more complete of a concept. Automata has some hard hitting clear themes, but at times it just devolves into “how many philosophical references can we stuff into this scene to get people to scratch their heads and feel intellectual?” The original Nier just felt like it didn’t digress as much with what it wanted to say. As for plot threads getting wrapped up, a lot of them were in side content before Automata. Stage plays, novels, etc. Besides, every Yoko Taro game being in the same universe, but so far apart from eachother time wise that each one is effectively brand new, is a pretty cool deal. I really hope Square Enix doesn’t force the next game in the series to be a direct sequel to Automata. Let sleeping dogs lie.

I felt the same way but I was not expecting a continuation of the first one in any real way. Instead the real bummer for me is that I found the characters very weak.

Automata has plenty of Soul in its characters, but the combat feels pretty soulless. And yet, that may have been the point.
The way I view soul, for context, is this:
>an aspect of a game that shows full passion in its creation, even if imperfect and sometimes especially if imperfect
The combat and gameplay is so standard platinum games that I already know that there’s gonna be nothing quirky or wrong with it. Also the pod is nowhere near as fun as Weiss’s magic.

The first one is in my 10 top favorite games. I liked Automata a lot and thought the music was great, but not as good as the first game's. I bought the black box edition as well. I don't think that it's a masterpiece like many have claimed, but I think it is very good and the combat is a big upgrade compared to the first. There is also a much better sense of the world in Automata, where Gestalt/Replicant felt like they didn't know what the fuck this world is supposed to be exactly.

ITS PRAISED BECAUSE ASS AND EVERYONE KNOWS IT

>I can’t take it seriously because the characters are dressed a certain way
Why are westerners like thus?

The first game's more unique and experimental, but Automata is literally a masterpiece and the second best game made this console cycle. Nothing else is as thematically consistent and backed up be fantastic gameplay and design.

I'd even say I like the first game's characters more, and have more fond memories of it, but in every objective sense Automata deserves it's praise.

yes I did.

It wasn't even in the top 10 games of 2017.

I praise it because I played the first one and it's a perfect sequel. My big concern was since they were making a big deal about Platinum, that the game would be one of their canned action games instead it ended up being Nier 2 with all the pros and cons that go with that.

Nier Automata has better combat/gameplay, graphics, and music. Nier is better at everything else.

>pedo fapbait.
I wasn't aware that pedophiles jerk off to adult female bodies

What is the theme and what supports it? Because I didn’t find any purpose in life from substandard Platinum action and fetch quests.

As far as thematic consistency, Rain World makes it look like an absolute trifling effort. Where Automata needed 4th wall breaking text to tell the player the morale of the story, Rain World delivers some very heavy ideas through the gameplay experience alone.

>Did you guys like this game?
>WELL I THINK IT SUCKS
Thanks OP. Also
>and some shoot-em-up section that makes no fucking sense
Did you just not... pay attention?
