It's not difficult. It's tedious.

You're just not into challenging action RPGs then. Play something else.
>I was there when Quakeworld was written.
That's not that long. Means you've only been around since the 5th gen. Try 3rd or 4th.
Why do they always start with this one? Pathetic kek
This, but also make yourself a pyro knight. Get havel's ring, put on some strong armor, and tank everyone.
>Don't cite "git gud" to me, witch. I was there when Quakeworld was written.
What do you expect them to start with? King's Field?
Im having fun playing handheld (feels like it >30 fps) but when docking my switch it looks like shit and runs terribly
The game on it self is pretty fun, waaayyyy to easy though (first time playing DS and people have always hyped it up too much)
Could you be more specific?
Yeah, Dark Souls on the go is surprisingly fun.
>but when docking my switch it looks like shit and runs terribly
Wait, why? Docking it should improve the performance and resolution. You sure you don't mean undocking it?
no, when docking the graphics scale to 1080/720 but the frames feel like they drop more then when handheld
so:
>undocked
nice 30fps and scaled down graphics so it looks completely fine
>docked
graphics scale up but the frames drop (or atleast appear more jagged)
Its not my monitor either ; 144hz screen
Same happens with BOTW for me ; bunch of dropped frames and looks garbage on any screen ive seen when docked
That's weird. I don't notice the performance dropping when I dock my Switch while playing these games, only an increase in graphical fidelity and frame rate. Maybe your Switch is defective, or it's something with your dock? I honestly can't say.
At least you're enjoying it in handheld though bro. Some people here piss and moan about muh graphics when using it undocked. So more power to you. I like to see more people playing it undocked.
OP sucks dicks here.
I actually started with Lord of the Fallen, manged to finish it although at some point nearly dropped it because I found some staff type weapon that blew up two text bosses so hard I never realized their mechanics.
Like said, tried getting into DS and failed twice. Do I miss out much lore and worldbuilding if I just watch (you)tube walkthrough and just go to DS 2 or 3?
What's tedious? Are you beating bosses of first try?
Then do a no leveling up run.
It's basically a metroidvania game but with keys instead of powerups, you backtrack a lot to discover new areas you missed and just in general it has a sorta metroidvania exploration loop. So keep that in mind as it might not be the genre for you. Difficulty isn't the point and it's really not particularly hard, don't fall for the meme that it's hard and assume you're supposed to die a million times throwing yourself at the enemies over and over until you get lucky, actually play the game from the mindset of an adventurer. If you don't like it you can try the other games they're basically nothing like dark souls and focus on boss fights rather than exploration. Might be more your speed if this kinda game isn't for you.
So, what, did you get the balance-breaking drop in the Burg both times?
Definitely the best way to describe it. It is like a 3D Metroid game, or... more simply put, Metroid Prime.
>So, what, did you get the balance-breaking drop in the Burg both times?
Worse. After reading some recomendations, I started with pyro.
>>Don't cite "git gud" to me, witch. I was there when Quakeworld was written.
What a fucking embarrassment.
How can you enjoy LoTF which is a slower, clunkier, blander, smaller, emptier Dark Souls?
>How can you enjoy LoTF which is a slower, clunkier, blander, smaller, emptier Dark Souls?
It was literally the first Souls-like game I played. Also:
>slower, clunkier
Agree
>blander, smaller, emptier
Maybe later parts of DS. Not the beginning.
Holy fuck you're pathetic OP, thanks for the laugh.
git gud
why do you need to like dark souls? do you like every other critically acclaimed and well liked game ever?
>Don't cite "git gud" to me, witch. I was there when Quakeworld was written.
If you're not having fun, then stop playing it.
starting class is literally irrelevant, you can start with any fucking class and do anything you want with no tradebacks what so ever.
The only people who care about starting stats are minmaxing pvp faglords and for a casual playthrough you shouldn't care, why the fuck do you care what drops and what doesn't? Just play the damn game casually, or don't, just stop making bullshit excuses.
What exactly about it is tedious? It hardly ever blind kills you and the enemies come in completely manageable arrays, the only time you would get outnumbered is if you got tilted and just started trying to skip mobs then ran into a dead end with no escape from the enemies closing in at your back. So if it's not hard, then just engage everything, kill it, move on, light the next bonfire, and keep playing.
>The fuck am I missing to have fun in this game?
A brain.
>play warrior
>not quality
>It's not difficult. It's tedious
translation: mad cuz bad
literally any melee build regardless of stats is the only fun way to play the game, anything else is objectively inferior, slow and boring af.
That's not really true, the class can have a significant impact on your early game experience, namely the starting armor set. Armor sets vary wildly in terms of curse resistance, for example. And keep in mind we're talking about someone playing the game for a first time, so don't say a player can just do X Y Z that they would have no idea of.
>It's not difficult
Mmm delicious tears
Nobody should be babying a new player through this game, it completely destroys the experience. Getting cursed is all just part of the journey.
someone playing the game for the first time won't get cursed so early, they'd have both burgs, parish, and then the depths before you can even get cursed, by that point if you're not rushing and actually taking your time exploring and picking up loot you'd have enough varied armour sets.
besides, aside from doing a high poise build, armour is pretty useless.
here try my tried and true newbie quality build for pve and pvp
gives you decent power and defences
ignore this faggot, don't follow any builds or build advice, the game is piss easy doing whatever shitty build you come up with as you play, fuck minmaxers and fuck pvp.
I had fun right out of the gate. If you're not having fun by the first boss you never will.
The game is fun in the same way as old Castlevania or megaman games. If you don't find those fun then play something else. You don't have to force yourself to enjoy something just because other people like it.
>fuck pvp
found the oussy who disconnects when invaded
wow I actually get to post this again, thanks OP
>the game is piss easy doing whatever shitty build you come up with as you play
agree and disagree
the game can be beat with any build, as long as you know what to level up. you can completely fuck up a build and turn the game into hard mode unknowingly
>imagine taking the pvp in a game like dark souls seriously
I'm lmaoing at your life rn
I miss those good old days, when /dsg/ was actually fun.
who said anything about taking it seriously
that build I posted is just a well rounded quality build for pve and is decent for invaders
why are you so insecure
Not that guy but PVP in the souls games is not very good and it surprises me that so many people care about it. It reminds me of those shoehorned multiplayer modes that appeared in every game in the PS2 era (e.g. marvel rise of the imperfects, Metroid prime 2, Star Wars Revenge of the Sith etc).
The appeal is the single player. It can be fun to fight off an invader every now and then but I couldnt even imagine sitting down and trying to play the PVP for an extended period. Its like the worlds simplest fighting game. Dive Kick is a deeper game.
You're as much of a fag as OP for spoonfeeding
It's just fun to help or fuck with people. You're a faggot when you start caring about meta builds and fight clubs though.

how do you "fail" a game with infinite lives
t. 90s kid
no for real though where did the meme "this game is hard" even come from because you literally get infinite lives just like any modern game so its impossible to lose. its a game literally made for a generation that can't handle failure or defeat and people still bitch.
If you aren't enjoying it, don't play it. Don't waste your time with a game you aren't enjoying.
It doesn't matter what Yea Forums says, there aren't "essential" games.
nice wall of cope
Ironically, writing these angry responses seem to be your method for coping with the fact that other people have different opinions to you.
>tryhard telling others not to be tryhards
based retard
nobody is angry
your post is just typical of someone who sucks at PVP
>ENB is kill
>VaatiVidya has 1M subs
I want to go back.
I would imagine he means Demon's Souls, a it the most logical starting point in the souls series.
Dark Souls' PvP is a waste of time because the combat itself is simply unfun. Add to that how you will always lose against an specialized PvP build. If you're playing the game normally your will be killed by invaders every single time.
I have an average of 500 hours on every Dark Souls game and never bothered with PvP besides when you're invaded. I enjoyed playing co-op with randoms immensely thought.
imagine getting 1M subs by being a plagerist who uses a fake deep voice
game bad cuz me bad
>another wall of cope
Jesus summer Yea Forums is pathetic..
that jblackmel impersonation will never not impress me
>If you don't like something it must be because you're bad at it
you just don't like it because you're bad
Posts like these are written by PvPers to guilt trip you into serving as their personal punch bag. They know PvP doesn't benefit you while it gives them erections for killing you.
Don't waste your time; it won't work. I don't think I'll replay the Souls games for a long time.
>Game is tedious
The game is literally 4 hours long. If the game is "tedious" in anyway, either your build is fucking dogshit or you really are bad at it.
He "failed" because he gave up. End of story.
Don't deny that shit like curse is horribly punishing, especially because it happens half a mile underground with no warp to get you to the one vendor who can undo it. Also no pause function. You will die countless times the first time you play this game, IDGAF who you are. This game has difficulty climbing out of its fucking ass and I'm tired of tough shits claiming otherwise. The whole point of the game is persistence.
still mad cuz bad lmao
ENB ended up acting like a fucking faggot and I'm glad his bitch wife divorced him and took most of his money. What a fucking retard.
this post is typical of someone who pulls the plug when invaded
Here let me help you out
>go to Blighttown
>get Falchion
>equip Falchion
>wear decent poise armor
>spam r1
Now was that really so hard
Bro, if you disconnect from PvP because you're unable to unwind and have some dynamic, on the fly fun, you are literally the only one taking PvP "seriously".
And why should I waste my time with that when I could be playing the game?
Git gud zoomer
hi dsp
>*parries you*
>*equips hornet ring*
nothing personnel, kid
Seeing as you'll never git gud I figured cheese might be more your speed
Wouldn't you equip the hornet ring before parrying my man?
You forgot the part where you pocket-swap your shitty dagger with an Ultra-Greatsword for maximum Loony Tunes lulz.
Gotta say, I love it when a host disconnects. That's when I know I've absolutely blown someone the fuck out. Feels great man.
I can swap out my entire set, rings and weapons in the span of half a second. You'll be dead before I finish riposting.
*teleports behind u*
nothing personnel
still better than vaatifaggot
Touché.
>decide to buy this on PS4 as it's on sale and PC is dead

so if I call you a cuck does that make it so?
lets try, you're a cuck.
who's got the video of the retard going backwards in undead asylum then complaining the game I structions are wrong
it's old as all fuck
hah, you think I give a shit what a literal cuck thinks?
sweet summer
you're the only cuck here
Dark Souls 1 is tedious, boring shitfest that has the best aspects of the games thrown in a shitty world with mostly rushed areas. Dark Souls 2 improved on it immensely, 3 even more so. 1 is outdated even by Demon's.
The Duelfagging meta in Souls is retarded but you're also a fag if you disconnect and whine about "specialized builds" and other players just being better than you.
prove it
...
can't hear you over the sound of your wife's moaning
that jblackmel impression always kills me
>It's not difficult. It's tedious.
You have to learn boss timings, how to dodge, and enemy layout on the maps. It's not hard it's just very punishing.
If you want real hard games try beat em ups
It's not difficult but it's not tedious either. You can literally run through most levels towards bosses without being hit a single time, you don't have to farm anything or even level up (SL1 runs are a thing), the whole "difficulty" is in learning mechanics and movesets and you do that as you progress. It's as tedious as you yourself make it.
How can you fail a game where you literally have unlimited lives?
I agree for the most part, sword & board is the fun way to play, especially if you learn parrying. However crossbows are also seriously underrated in this game, they're hella fun and versatile in PVE.
git gud
It's not for people who give up so easily which is the majority of people nowadays, don't feel bad OP you just have the patience of a child to live with the rest of your life
>It's not difficult. It's tedious.
Desperate cope
>second time you finished something you don't enjoy
Why user?
is someone getting filtered by the archers at anal rodeo?
Stop having shit taste
>game where you can't jump suddenly becomes a platformer
Just be honest and admit that the archers are bullshit
>game where you can't jump
>playing a game you don’t like twice
fucking why tho?
Nah, archers are a memorable section, the game would be worse without them. FROMfags want to smooth out all the corners until nothing is interesting.
how are they bullshit
you can poison arrow them from a distancd or roll past their arrows and attack them directly
I'm not saying they're impossible to beat. Poison arrows feels like a cheese tactic. You can beat Manus with them, too. Poison also takes a long time. These days if I feel like cheating the archers I use the quit and reload trick to un-aggro them, or if I have fog ring / sdc ring use those. But for the most part after some practice it's most expedient to just run them down, take out the left one first for the Hero's Soul and then either block or roll your way to the other one. Parrying obviously helps.
How are you even supposed to play this game?
literally just roll past their arrows and attack the rightmost archer
works every time if you time your rolls properly
and also parry them
they're easy as fuck
why pass up the Hero's Soul? I also find the left archer is easier to take out first.
I've platinum all From games for PS4 except this, how long does it take to do? I just saw there's a Trophy for all special weapons which sounds like a bitch to get. What about Covenants? I always farmed then offline since i tend to overlevel my characters.
It's a tedious game. The combat involves mostly waiting, a little bit of repositioning, and a lot of timing. When you figure it out it's really not that exciting outside of some high intensity bosses of which there are only 2 or 3.
I don't. I always kill the right guy first, go to bonfire then come back for it later.
It's always fun seeing summer Yea Forums claim the game is tedious like DSP.
but it isnt fun
>tedious
exactly and it will never top being tedious
t. beat all of dark souls
git gud
okay thanks phil
it should be changed a little bit so the 2nd archer isn't standing on a 10 cm wide ledge and has to be dropped by abusing the fact that attacking changes his collision box. It feels very glitchy, make it difficult in a similar but more reasonable way.
Don't try to enjoy things you don't like.
You can apply this formula to everything in life.
or you can just git gud
get a spear and shield. If it your first time it helps.
Also dont do fat rolls
>cheese
it's a regular enemy so no it isn't
me, personally, can't into the aesthetic of DeS/DaS, the games are just plain ugly compared to Bloodborne and Sekiro. The times I've tried them I drop them when I get to the muddy caves/swamps areas.
>unrelated game
>most logical starting point
If they don’t like dark souls, they sure as hell won’t like demon’s souls
Do you think elden ring will do like sekiro and drop the "dude dead world with no real sequence of plot events lmao"? I don't think I can go back.
no
It's easier than DARK SOULS III by far, maybe even II considering Loyce Soul farming.
ENB is a huge faggot and should hang himself
fuck off vaati
>I'm a boomer
>that means I don't need to be halfway decent at anything and I want everything handed to me while criticizing everything
sounds about right
What weapon are you using? Maybe it's just your playstyle you're not enjoying.
I think the appeal to dark souls is a combination of the elegantly designed battle system and the fact that after you beat the main story there is always pvp to look forward to afterwards which is unique for a console rpg.
the fuck are you talking about?
there are several non-glitch, non-cheese ways to defeat him it sounds like you are just bad at the game.
Demon's Souls isn't on Steam or a current gen console and you need a computer from the NASA to run it.
I agree it surpasses Dark Souls in many points (lore, atmosphere and soundtrack mostly), but Dark Souls is much more accessible in every sense and a more well-rounded experience overall. Best starting point.
enb has an insufferable personality but his content is fucking great, it's authentic.
Vaati can go fuck himself, everything about him is fake.
>pvp to look forward to afterwards which is unique for a console rpg.
because Dark Souls is really not an RPG. The only RPG-like thing it has is a stat system and xp-based leveling literally everything else including the world and NPC design is 3rd person action.
>play warrior
No, start pyromancer, you get the piromancy from the beginning and that shit is OP as fuck early game, because they dont need stats to do more damage, it rely only on the pyromancy glove level, so you can do bid spells damage and still do a full quality/dexterity build at the same time.
you can't level pyromancy until you rescue Laurentius which is when you'll get the pyro flame anyway.
>Do I miss out much lore and worldbuilding if I just watch (you)tube walkthrough and just go to DS 2 or 3?
Lore and world? No, because you will not understand shit on your own even if you paly the game anyway, you still need videos or the wiki to understand that shit.
But you will lose the best DS game regarding gamepaly and level design, DS1 its the best DS experience overall, even if in some aspect DS3 is better.
So if you skip 1 and play 2 and 3, you will just skip the best gam to play worse games.
>starting class is literally irrelevant
theyre not, pyromancer give you pyromancy at the beginning, isntead of waiting 15 hours to get it
Thief give you a bleed weapon and the master key so you can get another starting gift and keeping the key.
Still, even at lvl 1 the pyromancy spells do good ranged damage for free without wasting any points in int or faith.
DS gameplay pisses me off sometimes and it's not exactly my cup of tea, but my fuck - the setting is great, and it's the main thing that made me play DS
I 100% agree. I've tried playing through this three times and just wind up losing interest. I've played through DaS2 three times and DaS3 twice with no problems. I can't put my finger on it, but something about 1 just doesn't keep me engaged.
It's not really irrelevant, even though you aren't locked into much. Start class can really influence your initial playstyle which in turn will influence where you're likely allocate points and what items you're likely to spend your souls on.
In my opinion they all have tradeoffs. Yeah sure having the pyro flame early can be nice (you have to beat Capra for it otherwise), but fireball is not THAT great. It's slow as shit and has a mediocre range. Also, Pyromancer starts with a shield that's basically worthless for anything but parrying and while the Handaxe is a great little weapon for its weight class, it's offensive power is not that great. Both Warrior (Longsword) and Bandit (Battle Axe) start with good shields and more conventionally effective weapons. Meanwhile Knight is the only class that starts with any poise and Hunter also comes with a range attack.
I'd say Thief is the only class that really seems to be for an advanced player (and Deprived I guess). And sorcerer/priest if you're planning on int/wis builds respectively.
>you can't suggest I should better learn how to play this game, because I learned how to play an entirely different game!
Git fucking gud and don't be a dumbass, you're beyond old enough to know that's not how things work.
>It's not difficult. It's tedious.
I'm with you on that. I even like metroidvania style games but Demon/Dark Souls has never really done it for me. I've always liked the art style and lore but playing the actual game is just not all that fun.
I love summer!
