Surprisingly not, despite being made by /vp/; thankfully all of the memes and edge got channeled over into a seperate sister project (clover), so sage itself was/is all of the collective autism of /vp/ put together and focused on actually making a game that matched the look, feel, tone, etc of a real pokemon game, right down to matching the specific color depth requirements of sprites and shit.

If the former, go with the Digimon World games, if the latter, go with the Story series (ironically they got localized as "Digimon World" games to, so look up the japanese titles). I'm not a huge fan of the sims myself so I'm less informed on them, but for the latter, you can either start with Digimon Story DS and then Sunburst/Moonlight, and then go to Cyber Sleuth, or just start with Cyber Sleuth and it's sequel when those get the re-release in a few months.

Either works. The DS ones are probably a bit more begineer friendly but CS is way more of an actually solid video game, and is also aimed at an older audience, it's basically SMT.

Which isn't a fault on your part I need to emphasize, because vanilla Pokémon is so easy that you don't NEED to do that, but I'm usually around ten levels below the Champion when I beat them, both in vanilla games and fangames. The AI in Pokémon is terrible no matter what you're playing, so they're pretty easy to cheese.

As much as I like the idea of fighting on different terrains and having the battlefield either be your best friend or worst nightmare, I still don't understand how can you fuck up the story that much. Characters are either killed off or commit/think of committing suicide, the main villain is off the charts "ow the edge", the only likable characters are a genderbent Bugsy, some purple fruity boy and like two or three gym leaders, everyone is just an asshole and there's even a part where they talk about gender indenty and a charater referring to themselves as xim/xer. And they're the fucking Fairy gym leader on top of that.

Rejuvination might have a fanfic tier story, but I've had a lot more fun with it and its characters alongside Uranium and Prism than this pile of shit. And I'm not surprised considering that Reborn's head developer is a tranny.

One thing I know for instance is that Fumighast won't be able to learn Fire Blast or Blizzard via TM, as those are exclusive to the Exothermic and Endothermic Noxial forms and you have to level them up with it to have it as Fumighast. Flamethower and Ice Beam might end up being the same way but not sure.

Everyone is going to tell you Platinum, HeartGold/SoulSilver and Black 2/White 2 because they are considered the best for single-player. For spin-offs just play the Mystery Dungeon games.

Pokken is also really good, but only for competitive play.

If you like fighting games, go to locals, play competitively, etc; it's great. Stupidly well balanced, lots of mechaniss to emphasis neutral play and to encourage adaption, characters play super uniquely with unique systems, etc.

For casual play though it's pretty barebones.

The mystery dungeons are not game at all. Very poor dungeon gameplay & the story always sucks.

Because even causals like to have consistency to their games. Its annoying to throw out a ghost type thinking "yeah, this'll beat their psychic type" only to have it slaughtered because "lol, btw its a poison type too". Or to throw out a ground\rock type only to die to a move type you dont expect the opponent to have because "lol x4 weakness to everything". Its more a matter of principle, and I would expect a fan game, a true fan game, would correct those flaws\inconsistencies. And Im making the assumption that sage is a true fan game where the people making it knows pokemon more deeply and thoroughly than gamefreak ever will.

I wish there was some way for Nintendo to separate Game Freak from Pokemon. They clearly have absolutely zero idea how to make a quality game.

I'm just going to get my parents or someone to buy me this game for Christmas because I'm not spending money on it myself. Sadly, I still like the Pokemon themselves and I always get the new generation game.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I don't give a shit about new Pokémon games now. I don't think I'm growing too old for the franchise because I want to play the ones I already have eventually but (Ultra) Sun/Moon was a bit of a disappointment and Sword/Shield looks boring. I don't even care about the lack of national pokédex, I'm talking about all the new features, the new pokémon, the new characters, the new designs, etc. It was really fun while it lasted though, I'll focus on other series I grew to like more now.

And good luck roaring out the opponent when Roar, Whirlwind, Circle Throw, and Dragon Tail all have negative priority. Holding a Red Card is 100% better. Also, Dynamaxing doesn’t require an item and they can use it on any Pokemon. So let’s say your phaser is Suicune. Your opponent can just Dynamax their Grass type if they wanted too DURING the match, rather than while building the team. So when you rematch them and use Skarmory as your phaser, they can just pick their Fire type to Dynamax. And lets say you killed their fire type, they can just use their electric type to Dynamax or and of their neutral Special Attackers.
This is what is really broken about Dynamaxing and what sets it apart from Megas and Z-moves.
You can’t immediately tell which Pokemon Dynamaxes, unlike Megas
It can be any Pokemon, unlike Megas
If the Pokemon you Dynamax dies before you Dynamax, you can always use the remaining 5 Pokemon, unlike Z-moves.
If the Pokemon you wanted to Dynamax has poor coverage (being all 4 of its moves) against the opponent, you can just choose another teammate to dynamax, unlike Z-moves (which will always have 1 type)

This isn’t mentioning secondary effects like summoning Grassy Terrain or increasing your own stats.
