Remember when this was going to kill WoW?

What happened?

Attached: Warbox.jpg (359x500, 108K)

Warhammer fans were too busy playing WHFB to play the vidya. Shit was great though. I had a lot of fun with it while it was still active

A shitton of bugs that went on unfixed for months.
That one dev hyping the game up with no real substance.
Faction unbalance in RvR.

EA Happened.

How did it take this long for this to be posted

God damn it fuck this game. I followed every podcast and update leading up to this game's release. I was hyped beyond belief. And then it came out and was dogshit. Like half the stuff they promised wasn't in the game. Combat was clunky, and the classes were horribly unbalanced with some being stupid OP and others worthless.

You can't kill a game by copying it.

WoW is and always was garbage btw but this was even worse.

Theres new private server up which fixes some old bugs and makes new content. Shit was cash tho.

returnofreckoning.com

By far the most unbalanced MMORPG ever just holy fucking shit was bright wizard OP and the cool shit like chosen weren't that great, Order was way more OP than Chaos.

I was invited into the beta and played it for a few months. The things I remember where the combat being very clunky, class balance being all over the place, tons of bugs, and the quest design being very mediocre. The one great thing it did well were public quest and ability to dye your armor, something which every MMO has copied since.

Had some of my best massive open world PVP experiences in this.

Remember when Fire Warrior was going to kill Halo?

Half of the stuff they promised wasn't in the game, and the game was unbalanced as fuck.

The only thing that can kill wow is wow itself.

Performance was horrendous, not saying you need an absolute potato compatible client, but it shouldn't be as bad as it was for basically no reason.

Besides that imbalance was rather obnoxious, classes like DoK and Warrior Priest could fight a 3v1 and come out victorious, the aura classes were a chore to play at maximum efficiency, and bright wizards were just stupid at aoe in a game about massive siege battles where aoe is crucial.

Leveling outside battleground or whatever they were called was super slow and tedious, no one fucking did any events after the lvl 10 zones.

you can play this shit today btw google it if you want to. played to level 20 then my zoomie brain couldnt take it anymore.

Bugs, bugs, and more bugs.
Shit not being fixed since forever, like ramps and intial AOEing.
Content locked behind abritrary warding/gear hardcaps. This biggest offender of this was intial city sieges where 99% of the people who made it there, would get one-shotted by the lowliest of mobs.

Among other things. Basically blantant issues that could've been fixed but they left sitting there for months/years. There's articles on this and even dev blogs about how they knew shit that could easily be fixed never did for some reason.

After WAR died, no one ever attempted a pvp centric mmorpg again other then the super-safe Guild Wars 2.

The game was loosely based on the actual setting. EA is the last gaming company to mingle with such games and the developers didn't seem to take the whole thing seriously. I mean, they were taking on WoW in its absolute prime. That's proved to be too much of a task.

I personally ultimately keep the smoking hot sorceressfu from the trailer from the whole deal.

>while it was still active
Its still active, just on private servers. How much actually active is debatable of course.

Ran like shit but I enjoyed it for a month or two when it came out.

>it's because of the threat of Warhammer that blizz added stuff like lol sand to vanilla and those capturable forts in hellfire
>to this day blizz still sucks at world pvp

Ikr? Perfect, isn't she?

>that wow killer phase

Age of Conan, Warhammer Online, what else?

WoW? More like, Waiting on Warhammer!

they released it atleast two years too early, it wasn't ready. i sometimes play private server and it can be fan for a while but always it gets me what potential there was.

Aion. WoW for people who prefered Lineage 2.

How's the online climate there now? Are there guilds for example? I'm clueless.

Launched 6 months too soon.

"we are not in azeroth anymore" aka rift

>forgetting Wildstar and TORtanic

bring back flyff

It was never going to kill WoW.

Blizz ripped Warhammer off and did ti better lol. Nobody gives a shit about WArhammer.

That aside the only good part of Warhammer was collision detection in PvP.

Only game ever made where it was ok to play an Elf. I miss the Warrior Priest like you wouldn't believe, why wasn't that in Vermintide?

That was the second push in 2011-2012 or so
The first one was in 2007-2009

>Age of Conan
>create a game for people who enjoy pvp and sieges
>still no sieges half year after relase
Was The Longest Journey the only game Funcom didn't fuck up?

dem shieldwalls.

i drooled over her in the trailer

>ability to dye your armor, something which every MMO has copied since.
Pretty sure SWG did that first

>wildstar
>warplots

That being said. A mmorpg concentrates on pvp or doesn't. PVP fags will never be satisfied in dragon-slaying sims and often fight amongst themselves, especially when arenas came out in WoW.

Hell even the red/pvp private server on Everquest can't hold a population because of the autistic pvp fags who circumvent every rule to decimate the level 1's who think about playing there.

>watching developer diaries
>this guy animating a warlock with a skull in his hand
>"I think he'd walk like this.. because he looks old"
>animates an unappealing and ugly walk cycle over emphasizing the skull in his hand just because the skull is in the concept art
>walks around in the testing room full of other ugly looking creatures doing stuff
I wasn't even into animation back then but I knew there was no heart or passion into the project by half of those guys. Either that or they were just lacking talent.

Or both.

COLD BLOODED WAIFUS

jesus fuck leveling my swordmaster of hoeth purely through PVP, getting the purps every tier.
so much god damned fun, I miss it bros

How is lotr still going?

It has legit great story, worldbuilding and is very faithful to the books. Gameplay itself is kinda meh, but that's not why people play it in the first place.

Rift
I enjoyed the shit out of it for a while though

This game was never courting the wow audience.

Damn I loved the game. Had such great times. They fucked up the launch. Also it launched too early. There were just 1 city for every faction. Not all classes available. It was a MESS!

What do you get when you combine jews and jews? Warhammer Online.
EA and GW should never make anything ever again

>bra, long skirt open in the front, pauldrons, boots and gloves
This should be mandatory female mage attire in all games

FUCK EA FUUUUCK

this game had amazing artdesigns. They really captured what made warhammer special. I couldn't get enough looking at their concept art. Even bought the artbook years later.

Were do you get your concept art from? Besides artbook that is.

A few years ago I downloaded a file with all the artwork. I can't remember from what website I downloaded it sorry. I think I was originally looking for the old warhammer pen and paper books and found the concept art folder by accident. maybe if you google around you can find it as well

I feel like I'm the only person who really really liked what Conan was, hell the only reason I quit was starting around 40 or so some patch made the game unrunnable. But when I was playing it was probably the most enjoyable mmo of that era immediately after wow for me even after the level 20 content.

I really enjoyed the directional combat until I made a bow dude
but yeah it was fun for awhile

Mad balance issues, from the classes to the two-faction setup.
Too streamlined and deterministic, less room for some individuation which threw a lot of people off I'd assume, but hey its RvR.
The addition of the AOE spam classes which streamlined strategy into a bland mess.
It all really could have been way better even with just proper balancing and a three faction setup like DAOC. It was still quite fun desu, I even enjoyed the clunky ass combat.

It was actually OK. GDC was too long. Little content after 30. EA apparently wanted to actually add more content but GW was difficult to work with and, I am told, some execs at EA were somewhat toxic toward team members who wanted more control over the project.

The whole game gives me this feeling, like, someone wanted to take that team and build their own MMO after Warhammer. There was a lot of effort put into the engine. It feels good. That's unusual.
