I may be stupid but it took me a long ass time to realize that you can repair weapons and armor with similar items in your inventory(for a profit if you do this to gear you dont need but find a bunch of).

just make sure you have plenty of stimpacks and ammo for black mountain. It's an absolute bitch to storm if your unprepared and if your unlucky a deathclaw will show up to fuck everything up.

whats so bad about the legion anyways?

They use ancient Roman tactics which makes them strong but cruel. They conquer lands and slaughter the people. The only survivors are taken as slaves or, if they prove themselves, join the Legion as warriors. They see women only as caretakers and mothers. They enact their own sense of justice on the land. In Nipton, you learn that they massacred the town because of how corrupt it was. The mayor took bribes, the merchants sold to any faction that was buying, the residents were gamblers, thieves, and prostitutes. They made a deal with the mayor to trap the NCR and Powder Gangers, but instead the Legion trapped the town. The held a lottery where the prizes were slavery, only losing your legs, or a quick death, with one person being set free. The rest were burned alive or crucified. Their pride is one of their biggest downfalls. Caesar threw his greatest General into the Grand Canyon because he lost a battle. You meet this character in the Honest Hearts DLC and learn that he is still alive.
Overall they don't have the corruption that plagues the NCR but they are less pure in their intentions. The NCR is held back by bureaucracy and is spread too thin in the Mojave. There are multiple lines in the game said by Traveling Merchants about how they hate trading with the Legion but they are always much safer in their territory. Players side with the Legion because they have a better chance of keeping the Mojave safe, they enjoy the more difficult quest line, or they are edgelords.

Also, one of the biggest issues is how heavily the Legion relies on Caesar's incredible leadership. If Caesar were to die, then the Legion would assuredly fall. The only person that could actually succeed him would be Joshua Graham, his former Legate that he cast into the Grand Canyon. His current Legate has the military skills but can not lead a nation of barbarians.

1st doctor's bag is in Doctor's house just near by the bed you regain consciousness at. Doc Mitch also has some for sale (just like any other doctor in game). You can also obtain some during Ghost Town Gunfight quest from the same doctor(30 med required). Two more bags you can find near "sort of doctor" at NCRCF. There are also 3 or 4 bags outside Repconn base the ghoul quest takes place at.
There is also drug in game called Hydra which heals our limbs as well(!Addictive!). Just check every corner and vendor and you will have no problem with these items. NV isn't hard in terms of resource management. There is plenty of everything in game.

Just take your time with every major area on your first run, talk to all the characters, it's still easy to miss content on your first run but that's what makes it so great.
Most quests can be solved by being very investigative, or just shooting everyone, do as you please, it's very roleplay friendly
