smashboards post someone linked here implied that the rights to the DLC characters were worked out earlier than many think, and that Banjo was given the go and worked on as early as April 2018.

Curious if Nintendo went to the handful of companies that actively supported their console and just asked if they wanted a specified character(s) in this game. Konami, Atlus and Microsoft are new from Smash 4 and they all have a moderate hand in Switch titles

I mean.. I don't exactly have a source but just going by how much Doom is getting advertised this year and it's a celebration of the 25th anniversary, as well as the fact that Doom Slayer for some strange reason being part of both of the google theory "leak" and the 5chan leak, as well as Pete Hines saying that there'll likely be more Doom surprises for Nintendo fans on the way, I'd say there's a very possible chance HE'S one of the reps with the last two reps.

Maybe Ubisoft will get someone in Smash at some point. They got content in both 4 and Ultimate, and they seem pretty keen on wanting a character in. Plus good relations with Nintendo and with all the projects they've worked on together.

the only ones I can think of that would be good picks are Doomguy and a few Nintendo relevant western indies, Golf Story protag, Shantae, Killer Queen Queen if the port ever comes out, and Shovel Knight
