I don't get how people can claim games like Sekiro or whatever are difficult when this shit exists. I've been trying to beat it again and I've spend at least 10 hours just to get past World 3, Sekiro took me 25 hours total and that's a much longer game, SMB3 is fucking brutal and it's easy compared to shit like Lost Levels.

>bing bing wahoo
>difficult
i mean i agree a nes game is objectively harder than a modern game, water is also wet.
>tfw even your mom who hardly plays video games beat it back in the early 90s
Mario 3 is pretty goddamn easy user. Sekiro is definitely harder for most.
The kids playing it had been playing that style of platform game for several years when it was released. You've probably been playing Souls games for longer, plus a lot of other shit that didn't exist back when the NES was the only console kids had.
Also, are you playing it on a real NES or emulating with a shit controller?
Emulating with some knock off SNES controller (which seems fine but prob not comparable to a real Famicon pad on a CRT)
fuck off movieblob
How schizo are bing bing wahoo fags? Do you think they always type out this exact phrase because that’s all they hear? Did Mario come into your room, fondle with your prepubescent testicles, roll down the foreskin of your penis and licked off the smegma while proceeding to whisper in your ear “bing bing wahoo”? While Mario was doing this, were your parents unaware or did they act as bystanders, knowing full well of the abusive relationship between you and Super Mario yet did not act solely out of fear that if they attempted to interfere, he would ruin their lives far more than he was already doing to their kid? It’s okay user, we get it: you’re obsessed. And a bing bing wahoo to you as well.
t. hasn't played Lost Levels.
How the fuck do you beat the level with the little sun following in W2? Assume no power ups so little Mario.
my mom was an OG super mario 1 speedrunner. she also used to tell me we could keep games we "rented" if we beat them in a week. didnt realize til i was like 10 thats why she was in jail
my dirty gaming secret is i've never beat mario 1 2 or 3 because they're too difficult for me too.
It's no Battletoads.
You can kill the sun with a shell
I mean it's no Ninja Gaiden either but I still can't come up with a modern non-indie game that's harder than it.
I find it really difficult to pick up shells, I know the input but Mario always just kicks them away.
Play Lost Levels with no warps then get back to me zoomer
Sounds like a whore.
SMB3 is just insanely punishing because small Mario is completely worthless and the level design is based on power ups which are extremely finite. I never got past World 2.
I'm going to tell you a secret. When you get a game over mushroom houses open again. You keep all the items in your inventory as well. So you can get a full box of items if you are on a world with an easy to get to mushroom house. World 4 for example if you have a hammer. There is a mushroom house with tanooki suits right at the start
Doesn't help if the start of World 3 is borderline impossible. 3-2 is basically a bullet hell. If it was actually possible to grab mushrooms before they roll offscreen it'd be a lot easier.
3-2 is cheap as fuck lmao its harder than any souls game
Stop drinking śoy.
Something for wanting to play something challenging for once.
>just to get past World 3
Was World 3 difficult? It's been awhile. I remember that World 7 (Pipe Land) was a bitch and World 8 was brutal, but I don't recall the earlier ones being exceptionally hard.
stop drinking the retard koolaid
The sun moves in a regular pattern so you can avoid it. Really it just takes practice to learn the timing to jump over it when it dives, and knowing where the koopas are. It's much easier than that gulping fish in World 3 imo honestly can't remember the last time I died to the sun (although I remember that level being hard as a kid)
What is that? That's not a real drink. Are you too scared to call me a nigger you pathetic śoyboy manlet?
I just can't phantom why they made mushrooms run AWAY from you. It's so hard to get a power up as small Mario because the shroom always scrolls away from you and can be really hard to catchup before it falls in some cases.
I genuinely can't tell if this thread is fucking serious or not. I'm 21 but growing up my uncle ran a pawn shop so I had access to the entire libraries of NES/SNES/N64, and I had no issues with Super Mario 3.
1 still can bust my balls like a champ but as long as you're not half asleep 3 is extremely straight forward platforming.
It's not the platforming, it's the countless enemies it throws at you that always one shot you because power ups are so hard to come by. The platforming itself hasn't been challening so far, I'm now really stuck on 3-2.
>Are you too scared to call me a nigger
That would be an insult to niggers you dumbass white trash /pol/tard
Imagine taking a metaphor for retarded propaganda you'd find on /pol/ seriously, are you autistic or something
are you guys fucking joking? World 3-2 is not hard at all. World 3-3 is actually tricky because that fish will eat you if you get too close to the water but 3-2 is just a basic autoscroller.
3-2 isn't even a real autoscroller though.
Take a shower
I'm going to boot up the game and beat this level, keep this thread alive and I'll report back.
>t-this pic I posted is you!
Not how it works zoomie.
nm 3-2 isn't the autoscroll level I was thinking of 3-6 but still...
I mean I don't doubt you can beat it, I just can't.
Haven't played Mario 3 but is it more difficult than Mario World? Because if it isn't then I should be able to beat it
>zoomie
You could just call them underage you fucking newfag millennial
The only level in world 3 I had a problem with is the stupid autoscroller with the jellyfish, Everything else is a piece of cake.
yeah I was thinking of 3-6 I think, the one I always thought of as a preview of the air force level in 8.
3-3 I guess the thing to realize is that you can jump on the fish and they have a regular pattern before they leap into the air. Also the fire flower is actually useful in this game unlike SM World.
I managed to beat 3-2 but immediately went game over on 3-3, what the fuck is that. Also are the contents from chests randomized or always the same?
it probably is harder than all the cinematic ((games)) you consume en masse
Seriously this thread is making me lose my fucking mind. World was piss easy, I cleared star world in elementary school. It has a secret area that gives you any powerup you want plus Yoshi between levels for fucks sake.
Are you all really this fucking bad at games?
Take a shower tourist.
You first, take the toaster with you
Cmon user, aside from a single NES game bing bing wahoo is pretty goddamn easy. No need to be so sensitive.
I would say SMB3 is generally a fair bit harder but if you beat SMW you could probably beat 3 with more effort
World is much easier. In 3 taking a death has actual consequences
thank fuck for save states and rewinds on the NES Online Service otherwise I wouldn't play any of the games on there
when the fuck are we getting RPGs or SNES games and not just games that are only good for wasting time
I beat SMB3 when I was 8. Donkey Kong country and Yoshi's island are much harder
Odd opinion. I feel like I'm gonna tear my hair out when I play Sekiro, meanwhile I can speedrun most levels in SMB3 easily.
SMB3 is the better game though.
I didn't die at all. What is giving you an issue? Just time the jumps correctly to avoid the water enemies.
3 is more difficult than world. World made a lot of changes solely to make the game easier, like giving you a second item in storage and the cape being completely OP.
Lost Levels isn't hard, it's just unfair
It just made me realize how easy modern games are, I honestly haven't played anything this difficult in a while.
I can't think of a modern AA or AAA game that is near this difficult. Indies sure.
Maybe it's lag from my controller but I'm always just slipping and sliding everywhere.
Sekiro doesn't have deaths to a singular missed button press and the time lost from a death is usually less severe too.
I've never beat them either. Something about them just puts me off, I think it's the emphasis on power ups. I like to work with a consistent set of abilities and losing an essential one just because I got hit drives me crazy.
What are you playing on again? The lag sometimes makes retro games feel a bit more difficult if you're on an HDTV or something.
I'll try 3-2 for another hour then go to bed.
Hey op what's your sw?
Mesen with a knock off Super Nintendo controller.
I wish they had the decency to give you at least a power up before this level.
I just played it also, after not having played this game for like 20 years.
I died 3 times before beating it. First time I just fell into the water and said fuck it. I died once because emulating on with shit control bad and overloaded inputs or something. The third time I died on purpose because I messed up getting the mushroom power-up.
To get the mushroom powerup, make the first donut fall and then hit the box on the right side so the mushroom goes left. After that it's just watching the flying fish and jumping over or on them as they come. And don't fall into the water.
>To get the mushroom powerup, make the first donut fall and then hit the box on the right side so the mushroom goes left
This shit is more complicated and pixel perfect than any task a modern game asks you to do.
The next one with the elevating terrain is really a lot harder. This level is not hard and there's an easy power-up you can get right at the beginning.
i find this really strange, i just can't phantom how you could find sekiro harder than an old school nes like this. sekiro is so forgiving compared to these games
Based
>dismiss a massive series by saying LE BING
Do you have autism?
only when you're in a hurry, here you can take your time the fish can't get you on this platform.
Is this why you should only play retro consoles on a CRT? How much difference does it make? Is there some way to make an HD monitor work well with these old consoles?
For the longest time, my NES kept doing the blinking screen shit so I never got to play them for years and already moved on to SNES games
Thanks, this helped a lot. Still took me 5 lives to get through but I think I can make it consistent with some practice now. Long time I've actually had to practice a game, I spend almost 2 hours on these 2 levels alone so far.
You bing bings sure are sensitive about your magical cartoon plumber.
I remember revisiting this game years ago because I wanted to see if I could beat the whole thing without warp whistles or P-Wings.
I went into the high speed airship level on the final world with 99 lives.
I left with less than 30.
That game was fucking brutal when it wanted to be.
not that guy, I haven't played Sekiro but I have played DkS1 and it's mostly easier except for a couple of bosses (O&S, Kalameet).
It's hard to compare though because it's a different sort of challenge. Mario gets a LOT easier once you practice enough to get comfortable with the physics and the level layouts.
A better comparison for Souls might be something like Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, which has similar wait, spot-tell, dodge, counter style gameplay (it even has a stamina mechanic). If you're good at Souls you'll probably find Punch-Out trivial until the last two fights. But kids at the time often started having trouble on the Tiger Guy or Bald Bull in the mid-level circuit.
I mean they're both different kinds of games too. If you're good at platformers but have a hard time with punishing action games you'll be good at SMB3 but not Sekiro and vice-versa.
>invents a buzzword to cope then tells others they are sensitive
Yea it adds a bit of lag. Some TVs have a gaming mode or something like that with reduced lag, you'd have to look into it. It doesn't make games unplayable but it's definitely noticeable.
Cope with what bro? I don't even play games I just come here to laugh at incels who worship Chinese kideo game corporations.
>Cope with what bro?
You tell me bro
I think Punch-Out is still way harder than something like Souls because it's just much less forgiving, ultimately what makes an action game hard or not is frame data and Souls games' main defensive mechanics (deflect in Sekiro, rolling in the others) simply have too much invincibility + you it's too easy to not die in a single hit. In my opinion postgame/endgame Monster Hunter fights completely shit on Souls too, that's closer to Punch-Out.
I think you just suck at platformers.
Played this game for the first time last year and it only took a few hours to beat. The only tricky part I remeber were the vehicle stages in the last world.
no problem, and not to psych you out or anything but I remember the next level (3-3) as being one of the more frustrating in the game.
I do suck at them mostly due to a lack of patience so I'm always holding forward.
Sounds like you might be mildly retarded.
But there's a lot more threats in Souls also.
Tyson himself (and maybe Artorias/Kalameet/Manus depending) might be harder than Gwyn, but there's no equivalent to losing track of Ornstein while trying to avoid Smough and then getting speared in the back.
3-3 is rough
>(and maybe Artorias/Kalameet/Manus depending)
sorry meant to put that after Gwyn)
No it isn't.
If you say so
hold run button as you approach the shell, don't let it go until you're ready to throw.
it's not rocket science.
It's not hardest ever or anything but you have to keep track of the rising and falling terrain and time your progress through the level appropriately to get to the high points in time, and not screw up at all, otherwise you'll get gulped.
twitch.tv
He always just kicks if I do this.
That's a dead channel but I'd actually be willing to stream my shitty gameplay, I don't really care. Won't be till tomorrow though it's 5 in the morning here.
You may be retarded
Hold B, walk into the shell, and continue to hold B as you do so. What don't you get?
Remove the n at the end for a surprise.
Guy talks to himself so be ready.
32 yo boomer here. When I was like 4-5 years old the only games I owned were smb3 and kirbys adventure on the NES. Played and beat them both like 20 times each. They would probably kick my ass if I tried nowadays.
Might be something fucked with his emulation setup. I'm not an expert on that but you never know.
>he doesn't have an NES
Pathetic
I think it might be because I'm on a SNES controller config so run is a separate button.
it took me two hours to beat bowser. I haven't picked up mario bros 3 in over 18 years.
>a bunch of zoomers infecting Yea Forums claiming mario 3 is too hward
What the holy FUCK is going on here? This is the troll thread? This is our future?
>ah bloo bloo
I'm very close to 30 and I made the thread.
just curious if you know how many hours you spent on it as a kid?
I'd guess 50 hours is a lowball estimate for me. (Not saying it took me that long to beat the first time but adding up all the times I replayed it because why not probably adds up to a lot)
these were the only levels I struggled with the last time I played SMB3
youtube.com
youtube.com
rest was surprisingly easy
Most people in this thread haven't even played SMB3, let alone beat it.
Probably around 40-50 hours first playthrough.
Now I could do it in less than an hour.
Game is a lot easier knowing all the spots and warp whistles.
Im 30 and you are bad at video games.
But thats ok I guess. I just am kinda blown away that people actually think its hard but ive been playing them since i was 4
I unironically believe Bloodborne is easier than SMB3 even though I think some are over exaggerating it's difficulty in this thread.
My ability to play platformers has declined a lot, I'm pretty shocked actually. Shows how easy modern games are if this is making me struggle.
Wow you're a fag
Maybe it's time to hang up your spurs, gramps.
the thing with SMB3, which is different from SMW, is that it is actually designed as a dense sequence of challenges. The challenges aren't necessarily hard, but the punishment for fuckups is typically death (and unlike single-screen puzzle-platform indieshit you have to master the whole level not just each individual challenge)
Super Mario World still has all the mechanics, you can still fall in pits and die to enemies and such, but levels are much more about having fun flying around and jumping on enemies and looking for secrets and shit. As a result it feels WAY easier.
Mario 2 is way harder
It was really weird watching my GF play this game with me through the Switch's Retro collection. She was so bad. It's like, how can you not go fast? How can you not jump on enemies perfectly by carefully controlling Mario in the air? It frustrated me so much. I love this game but in my experience Sekiro is much harder or maybe I'm a platforming master. Who the fuck knows.
Did you play it a lot as a kid?
3 is challening but it's nowhere close to being the hardest NES game
Never claimed it was, of course it's not.
The direction depends on what side of the block you hit, so just plan accordingly.
i'm just saying, you really wanted to talk about hard games you should bring up some of the more difficult retro games.
What the fuck? Mario 3's hardest levels take a few tries tops, meanwhile some of Sekiro's bosses lasted DAYS for me.
Yes. My dad taught me how to play it the moment I could use my fingers. So I guess at late 1-2 years old or something. He is such an old man now, but when I tell him about those whistles he remembers them.
that's just as bad as being shit at mario. mash deflect
Is this thread a joke? SMB3 is hard in the later World 7 levels and some World 8 levels like the first castle. I don't want to believe Yea Forumsirgins find the first sun level to be hard.
Maybe it is as bad, but the point stands that I'm not as shit at Mario. I'm just surprised people find it more challenging.
You know you can easily get to World 1 to World 8 in like 4 stages right?
Yeah one reason these feel harder now is because back then they were our only games and we had nothing better to do. All the time in the world to get good.
>World 3
I can't think of a single difficult level before World 6.
i unironically feel his controller is lagging or his emulator is fucking up
yeah if you're a cheating pleb
>the game isn't hard if you cheat
Wow really makes you think
Just stand still when the sun comes at you and jump.
And miss out on amazing levels.
>finding bing bing wahoo hard
You niggas wouldn't last two minutes in Donkey Kong Country.
DKC is easier with the exception of the gay ass snow water level.
Donkey Kong Country 1 is easy as ballsack. Tropical Freeze though has the perfect difficulty. I'd say that is harder than SMB3.
The only "hard" thing about Donkey Kong Country is staying awake as you go through the 15th dark cave backdrop full of floating platforms. DKC2 and DKC3 were so much better it's ridiculous.
lost levels is harder than any DKC game
I think I actually struggled less with DKC than SMB3 somehow.
Normies do not play old school games since they are way too difficult. Even the easiest of the old games such as SMB3 are too hard for them as evident by your shitty post OP.
2 and 3 have some tough secret levels though.
Fucking DK '94 is harder than the original DKC. Still a fantastic game though.
you're actually braindead
It's funny that people find smb1-3 hard. Those and Megaman 5 are literally the easiest games on the NES.
Why do people say Megaman games are really hard? The first one is the only challenging ones. The rest are some of the easier games on the NES.
also, i want to add im a gen z
That's OP'S problem if he sucks so bad then if he just wants to finish the game then he'll just do what said
