A while ago actually. The majority of the changes made were done to Vergil. He got some new moves in his boss battle, and I think the "playable" one as well. Then they supposedly made changes to his in game model.

The one you play as is the credit Vergil. They use the same model, but have different move sets. He's more limited in the credits.

Legit bad writing. I know dmc is gospel on Yea Forums so if you criticise it in anyway you'll just be shouted at but that's the case. The first game was just shit and shit executed ideas. The second game was just dogshit. The third game has a very cheesy story but was coupled with amazing gameplay and style. The fourth game was just a tech demo. The fifth game was just sterile to me honestly.

Capcom writers are too braindead to give him any character development.

His character developed through V. When he separated from Urizen for the first time he was able to see himself from an outside perspective. He felt remorse for what he had done and realized everything he gave up for power. We also saw him develop further because his original plan was to dump this all on Dante and Nero. Then after he talks with Trish and she tells him that HE needs to see this through. His dialog changes from what he needs Dante and Nero to do, to what he needs to do. He later reaffirms this by stating "I have a duty to see this through." He knows he needs to reunite with Urizen to properly atone for what he did. After his fight with Nero he does actually take responsibility for taking down the tree. He just does it in his own Tsundere "Well the tree is in the way. Of course I'm cutting it down."

I like how after he asked if dante could fix his mistake trish basically told him to put on your big boy panties and fix his own mistake.

The manga sorta has V already determined not to die though so it's a bit of a contradiction.

His whole attitude changed after talking with her. I don't think he wanted to die and he knows he'll die without Urizen. He can see his body is crumbling. I hope the Manga goes more into what his endgame was.
