Dungeon Siege and Desperados
Got the demo cds from cereal boxes

PoP: Sands of Time probably. I had this notion that maybe there was a way to unlock the full game by glitching the demo somehow.

Delta Force Black Hawk Down, because the demo had an active multiplayer community.
What other game demos had/have active multiplayer bases, like Halo PC?

Attached: 2_1.jpg (1024x768, 110K)

Jedi Knight II

SSX. Came with the PS2. My parents bought me the PS2, but since it was so expensive, they refused to buy me a game for weeks. I played the shit out of the SSX demo and I'm not even into snowboard games.

IGI
operation flashpoint

based

Attached: 2648_2.jpg (1200x675, 120K)

PlayStation magazine demo disc. Me and a friend broke the demo and got out of bounds.

Attached: 3-world-sunrisespring.jpg (275x200, 16K)

Extreme Assault. So many fucking times. I wish I could get it to run properly on a modern system.

Attached: extreme-assault_7.png (640x480, 70K)

That was one of my favorite demos, OP. Great demo because it tricked me into buying Indigo Prophecy by showing me the best part of the game. First half was a ton of fun.

Attached: 1563674799137.jpg (640x793, 445K)

Serious Sam, just that first pyramid level

That one windows 95 demo disc where you walked around a space station and it had a bunch of different demos. I played that shit obsessively.

Crash Twinsanity and one of the Spyro games. I think the demos for came with an issue to the Jetix magazine or something. I remember getting through the doors that close during a cutscene on the Crash stage select somehow

Castle Crashers

Battlefield 2 demo
Good times on 16 player Oman

The first Episode of Doom, Knee Deep in the Dead was freeware with my Doom II disc, played that for months, even installed it on some of my school's computers to play during class and breaks.
Also, the first Age of Empires demo which came in the Close Combat disc and Fatal Fury 3 demo which I believe was on that one too or on Combat Flight sim 2.
I downloaded nearly every demo I could on XBL when I had my 360. I remember playing the fuck out of Quake Wars ET.

Battlefield 2

Syphon FUCKING Filter
A non-poorfag kid of my mum's friend had the full game so I'd play it sometimes round theirs, but they were fucking annoying so I didn't enjoy it much
I just played the demo which I think had a single level over and over

As many ps1 demo discs as possible. Atlantis, medevil, sheep dog n wolf, grind session. Can't remember all of them.

Attached: dreamcast.jpg (425x425, 49K)

Theres a demo I played of a game and for years I've wanted to know what game it was but I don't remember enough to get anyone to recognise what I'm talking about. The demo starts with your character and some robot companion (human sized) breaking into a facility and your robot companion gets captured behind a locked door so you have to go a different way. You go through vents or something because I remember a big spinning fan and your character says either shit or fuck when they fall into the blades and die. It was a mid to late 90s PC game

Thief: The Dark Project

DMC and MGS2 demos where the best bioshock too.

Dark Cloud
Never got around to play the full version

I remember playing the EHRGEIZ demo a lot. Masters of Teras Kasi, too.

>when you play the demo and fucking enjoy the same level over and over
>fucking wet yourself in excitement when you get the full game
>barely enjoy it
fuck's sake Team Buddies

FEAR

>took 2 days to download
>having to set everything to low so it would run on shitty family pc
>fucking ladder and hallway scene traumatizing me

Psi Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy

Ace Combat 6. I remember putting it in for the first time on my new 360. Needless to say my mind was blown, I hadn't played an AC game since 3 on the original Playstation. Used to play it over and over again but for some reason never got round to actually buying it. One of my biggest regrets.

Republic Commando.
Blinx the Time Sweeper.

The last big demo I remember was for Battlefield Bad Company 2, where everyone played the Alaska Rush map over and over. Still my best Battlefield experience to date.

Found a video of it. Anyone else play this?

youtu.be/TpTHVAUY48M

Halo PC
Those disc with 50 shareware games

There was a demo disc on the sega saturn that had this gem in it

Attached: 1658051-clockwork_knight_box_front2.jpg (640x1079, 95K)

Dmc4 and skate

The Area 51 demo that came with MK: Shaolin Monks

What an amazing game it was, and the local deathmatch was realy fun

Attached: 7853478342374893.jpg (1280x720, 58K)

Dark Cloud, Stuntman, Klonoa 2 on the PS2, Age of Empires 2 on PC

man this was like 15 years ago. the memories

Thief 2, but it was too spooky for me even with just the regular guards.
Also crysis because it was so damn repayable

Attached: 1553223406858.png (807x759, 220K)

Wtf that came out in 2008

Carmageddon Splat Pack. One map was more than enough for me.

I can't believe nobody said Kula World

>Age of Empires 2 on PC

please stop reminding me of my age

I literally came here to post the words "Syphon fucking Filter"

So good

BF2, Gulf of Oman demo against bots. also EA skate demo, still an all time classic game let down by its sequels.

monsters inc and some other game based on a cartoon can;t remember if it was taz or roadrunner. it was on ps1

Also forgot, Republic Commando on KotOR II disc. Battlefront II on the extra DVD of SW Ep III RotS

Attached: 1129033192.jpg (338x191, 14K)

Einhander was pretty great, played the shit out of that demo

Attached: t rex.jpg (1280x720, 39K)

Stranglehold

Aaah, David Cage with the classic trick of making a game with an excellent first level that promises everything.

Fahrenheit is a masterpiece. The first half is legitimately kinda great and exciting and then the second half is the most hilarious dumb shit imaginable. It's the Lost of vidya.

settlers 2 and anachronox

Tropico demo that came with railroad tycoon
BF2 Gulf of Oman demo
FEAR 2 elementary school level

based

Also this. This game even had two demos for two different levels! And of course they were two of the good levels instead of the other half of this game that was garbage.

Attached: 19204144.jpg (640x360, 35K)

For me it was this, embedded on another game's disc, I don't even remember which one. I started using the disc only for it, until I got SSX 3 some years later

Attached: SSX_Tricky.jpg (279x357, 30K)

I forgot the name, does anyone know? It was a third person action game where you played a Viking

It was the Playstation One demo disc, can't remember which number it was. It had Wipeout, Demolition Derby (I think), Spyro demo with Skelos and that turtle level, CTR demo, a Bugs Bunny demo, etc...

First video game I remember playing, some of my earliest memories revolve around this single disc, considering I was between 4 and 6 at the time

Really good damn value demo disc. CTR especially saw a lot of use.

Playing Fighting Force coop on ps1

Found it, Rune

Attached: 1BC355B3-27BA-4940-8F0E-A18DAB7E2F13.jpg (800x600, 90K)

Rune?
Viking: Battle for Asgard?

battlefront 2 and some golf game

Attached: 1556972081384.png (220x303, 141K)

Your point? That was 11 years ago in case you can't count, I'm 25 now.

Crackdown, DMC4 and Dead Rising 1 come to mind.
Oh and Lost Planet.

Ratchet and Clank 1, the demo that had the Metropolis level
youtu.be/Ii4_IofWQXk

Attached: 1374139977467.jpg (800x595, 137K)

I played the shit out of the Soldier of Fortune 2 multiplayer demo. Never got the game though.

Also played the Return to Castle Wolfenstein multiplayer demo like crazy, but I did get that one at release.

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1280x720, 54K)

There were so many. I only got 1 game a year, 2 if i was lucky back in the PS1 days before i got it hacked. Playstation Magazine demo discs were so special. There's too many demos to name but i played the MGS and MGS2 demo to death until i had found every easter egg and codec call. Bloodry Roar, Tai Fu, , Armored Core 2, Syphon Filter, Wild Arms and Ace Combat 3 are also demos that i vividly remember. I also remember playing some questionable fighting game where you could be some rhino like monster.

I also played the shit out of the orginal PSX demo disc. Die Hard, Tekken 2, Wipeout and Crash Bandicoot? Next gen T-rex graphics? It was treasure.

I want to go back bros

Attached: sad miji.jpg (1024x576, 88K)

I still think that game was pretty fun.

Sauce on that image my guy

I wasn't a kid at the time but the lost planet 2 demo was almost a full thing in itself.

Attached: file.png (1280x720, 874K)

SoF2 MP was legit

Deus Ex. It was just the liberty island level. I got a lot of replay value out of it though finding all the different ways to beat it.

Now there's a game made for demo levels

I spent so much time playing these back in the day. Tons of demos, goofy interviews, and when I learned about the Net Yaroze. Good times.

Attached: 6543121.jpg (315x236, 19K)

I had a demo disc with this on it, and I must have played it near a hundred times.
Then I rented the full game and didn't really like it all that much, but I can't remember why.

Attached: 174518-airblade-playstation-2-front-cover.jpg (800x1141, 175K)

This topic's hitting the nostalgia in a bad way. I must have played so many rounds of Kurushi and Overboard.

Attached: ver5-eur3-1.jpg (500x497, 140K)

MGS4

It was really easy to get out of bounds in that demo. I wonder if it's possible in the final game.

Alien vs. Predator on PS3

You could play multiplayer with people who actually bought the game, it was just only one map and no campaign

Tomba
Greatest game I've played in demo.

Attached: 81V80YiPLzL.jpg (1548x1377, 391K)

I eventually got the full game, but I'm pretty sure I played the demo way more

Attached: 150760-unreal-tournament-2004-linux-front-cover[1].jpg (800x1126, 247K)

they're making a Rune 2 now

Phantasy star universe demo on xbox 360
The guardians colony was a glorified chat room which was entertaining

i spend all the uses of that fucking demo in two 3ds only to hear the intro music. Last year I found a copy of this at € 10 at a toy store. fucking kino, sequel never ever...
youtu.be/Je1nL5y2qUg

mirrors edge. played that demo so many times idk why i didnt just get the game earlier. i wasnt even that young

multiplayer demos was a godsend, I played the fuck out of this

Attached: command-conquer-renegade_31[1].jpg (1024x768, 112K)

Attached: OniDemo[1].jpg (640x480, 28K)

Either g.r.a.w 1 or 2 demo had an active multiplayer

Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight

Quake 3

Some hovercraft shooting game which was set in futuristic city on ps1. Same demo disc also had Kula World and Medievil demo. Also trailer for MGS1.

Attached: 42843-1.jpg (1023x986, 245K)

MGS1
FF8
MGS2

Doom and Quake (Yes Shareware is a demo)

I had that ps1 Pizza Hut demo disc and played Armored Core and Crash 3 I think all the time

on PS2. finally got the full game and was enthralled (like 5th or 6th grade i think? lmfao)

Attached: 220px-Getting_Up[1].jpg (220x315, 31K)

carmageddon

Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, in a OXM demo disk along with Unreal Championship and Conker: Live and Reloaded.

Played it so much that my dad was impressed, and he bought the collector's edition on his way back home out of the blue. Ended up finding Mega64 through it, funnily enough.

Magic Carpet

Attached: 31_magic_carpet.jpg (620x388, 45K)

this demo disc? I think it was from pizza hut or some magazine.

I played the part in FF7 where the plant blows up and you have to escape like 50 times.

Also bushido blade when mom wasn't around.

Attached: demo.jpg (960x960, 141K)

Rainbow 6 3 Raven Shield had a multiplayer demo, played that non stoppppppppppp. Joined a clan in the demo and still talk to some of the guys all these years later ~16 years. Was the prison map.

that was a top tier disk! the collectors for chaos theory was pretty nice

its a shame because the level on the demo was not playable on the main game so that level is lost forever unless you own an Xbox and the demo.
I own the demo but the xbox is busted.
AFAIR the demos from Xbox and PS2 were different too

Attached: xbox_tenchu_return_from_darkness-110214.jpg (640x908, 74K)

Unreal Tournament 99/03/04 demos. Literally hundreds of hours of gameplay without getting bored.

Just Cause 2. I was 13 which I wouldn't really define as a kid, but it was the first thing that came to mind. Otherwise, Portal: The first slice perhaps?

Attached: Just_Cause_2_demo_map.jpg (1920x1200, 556K)

this is where it all started for me

Attached: d5786212228c4e3a94b038895e982e4d.jpg (600x800, 90K)

I also remember playing the original Carmageddon demo a ton, it had a timelimit and a crack for getting rid of it.

cover btw.
Can't believe I used to waste 8eur monthly on this crap

Attached: f9fee45e1ddfd1375496a68e10c49d8d.jpg (714x1000, 156K)

Nothing jumps to mind but man i sure did love and appreciate demos

got fallout 1, the full game, for free with a gaming magazine.
Blew my mind

Half life 1
Raptor: Call of the Shadows
Skyroads

What game is this

Fun game

Battle Arena Toshinden
Jumping Flash
FF7

and all those shareware "episode 1" style FPS games on PC.

>Tfw the Xbox 360 first came out and for the first time in your life you could just connect to the internet and download as many demos as you wanted instead of having to wait for a magazine

Attached: 1484290780525.jpg (223x226, 5K)

Baldur's Gate. It came on a disk from a magazine, and ended immediately after Candlekeep and the first forest area, before you could get to the inn.

I played it over and over, I was probably 7 or 8, just trying to riddle out the mechanics and systems for this game which overwhelmingly complicated and thorough to me, as at that point I didn't know what Dungeons and Dragons even was, let alone that this game was using the rules of it.

To me, it was just a well of infinity classes, stats, skills, races, and systems that I was trying to take in and understand all at once, making characters and exploring Candlekeep over and over again.

Deus Ex
Battlefield 2
Bloodrayne

R-Type Delta and Future Cop: LAPD

fahrenheit indigo prophecy

Not a playable demo but I must have watched this at least 100 times.

Attached: banjo VHS.jpg (844x633, 249K)

Beautiful Katamari until i figured out that the xbox funny money can be used to buy it digitally even though it was listed with real money.

Looking back this game is actually way better than Tomb Raider

Attached: 1547522117992.jpg (271x266, 33K)

The Need for Speed. I got a hard on for Dodge Vipers from that demo

Attached: nfs.jpg (3656x1364, 962K)

These too and Hitman 2: Contracts

if you havent played the other ps2 ssx games you should

MediEvil
Kula World
Syphon Filter
Porsche Challenge
Ape Escape

Freedom fighters if memory serves

>get Shogo
>play the Claw demo over and over again
>get Claw
>play the Gruntz demo over and over again

>Level is exclusive to demo
I hate this bullshit. Half Life pulled it too.

Attached: eh.jpg (250x241, 7K)

The game doesnt communicate well what you have to do or how to do it
I was only able to complete it with a guide
I would have been very frustrated playing this as a kid

What year?

wolverine origins, great game packed with great game mechanics and features.

its crazy that with todays technology, both visually and storage wise...all we ever get is unoriginal, repetitive, open world bullshit. everything is the fucking same.

I played the Tomba demo like a billion times. Never got the full game in my childhood but I finished the game in my twenties and it was even better than I expected and it was also good that I played it as an adult since it was kinda hard to beat. A few years later the speedrunning community forever ruined any possible talk about Tomba though so whatever.

I'm only 28 and I legitimately can't remember my childhood. I remember playing games and enjoying them, but it's all just a blur.

Attached: 126.jpg (1280x850, 350K)

The demos I remember playing the most are Deus Ex and Diablo 2. D2 was only up to Blood Raven. I loved running around those rainy fields with my barbarian.

Deus Ex was the first level and the part after it where you fuck around in the office. I was so into that shit.

Not sure how many times I played it, but I also remember Starcraft having a somewhat substantial demo with a different campaign than the actual game.

The PC port of MGS1. Still a mostly solid PC port imo.

Attached: 1558790041194.jpg (600x800, 51K)

>spyro 3
>matt hoffmans pro bmx

those demo discs were more fun than full games now

wolverine origins, great game packed with great game mechanics and features.

Attached: 324u598287.jpg (480x360, 35K)

Forgot to mention Hitman. I must have played that chinatown mission at least a hundred times.

I spent a shitton of time playing some motorcross demo where you could just ride around doing stunts & crashes. Had really great ragdoll physics for its time too. Was somewhere around 2006/7/8.

My brother and I played the hell out of the Resident Evil 5 demo. Still onecof the best co-op games I've played. We play through it together at least once a year

Attached: 2291943-residentevil5870_screen.jpg (480x270, 43K)

I don't remember. It's been so long since I had gameinformer magazines with those CD demos

Quake 3 and Starcraft Shareware. There was even an injector for the shareware so you could play custom maps (as long as they had the badlands tileset) and even play as zerg even though the demo was restricted to terran vs terran on byways.

And it was never used in the full game

I wish I could remember the name, but it was on a Playstation 1 demo disk, and it was a future "sport" type game, 4 players inside of cube that would rotate.
Each player had a color, I think there were power-ups occasionally?

skyroads
duke3d
doom
quake
commander keen
cosmo's cosmic adventure
major stryker
starcraft
etc

God I remember wasting tons of time on both aoe 1 and 2 demos before getting the games because they had random maps.

Battlezone. I played the demo missions over and over and over again, I absolutely loved it. I remember how completely ecstatic I was when my dad came home one day and surprised me with a boxed copy of the full game. It was really great.

Attached: 20160424014908_1.jpg (3840x2160, 876K)

The level was only made for the demo, I don't know another game that did the same.

Attached: ColdHandsWarmGun-JODemo.png (1536x1024, 1.79M)

still a really fun game

Attached: Dark_Messiah_of_Might_and_Magic_Coverart.png (220x312, 162K)

I played the shit out ofthe demos from Opposing force, evolva, metal fatigue, jedi outcast, dark forces 2, nerf arena, quake 3 arena. I used to buy magazines that came with discs full of demos, I love them.

My mom bought us these gaming mags that came with disks festuring like 15 demo games each month
Good times

Quake 3 Arena
Ghost Recon
Ratchet and Clank, Stuntman that came on the PS2 demo disk

Half-life had the uplink mission that was demo only and starcraft had the precursor campaign. The boxed version had more missions than the downloadable one.

Alien versus Predator! Based as fuck.

>that adrenalin rush in the marine demo level

I probably put more time into the Warhawk demo than half the games I bought for the ps3

The heliport level of Metal Gear Solid.

Attached: s-l640.jpg (640x480, 59K)

Had two black CDs with demos for PS1
Tekken 3, only had Eddy and Xiaoyu.
Einhander first level.
Bloody roar, only had Yugo and the Fox.
Blasto.
That Gecko game.
A weird game with a devil guy in a huge sliding ramp level.
A shitty golf game.
Can't quite remember the rest.

Dark Cloud and a demo of Silent Hill that was in a pre-owned copy of Metal Gear Solid.

>game releases free demo disc in magazines
>it's actually the entire game but it kicks you back to the main screen after the first level
>people find out cheats work on it so they just enter the level 2 warp cheat and play the entire game for free

Attached: iu[1].jpg (1000x566, 55K)

fucking this. that resident evil 2 trailer scared the shit out of me. best demo disc of all time.

Played hundreds of hours of the Halo PC demo. Blood Gulch was all you really needed.

Oh yeah, I forgot about uplink, I played that too.

Ape Escape

Correct.

now this..*sips* this is kino

MGS2 Tanker demo and Burnout 3

The Rayman 3 PC demo. I loved Rayman back in the days but could never find copies of the games anywhere. The sad thing is that I got to play them when I got older but those types of platformers weren't appealing to me anymore so I couldn't enjoy them.

Attached: hqdefault (1).jpg (480x360, 19K)

Surely you can think of at least one or two video games you enjoyed. It's normal to not remember every level or whatever.

If I remember right, Age of Empires 1 was part of a Windows install CD and you could download a demo from that. I remember my dad always deleted it from the disc because it was taking up unnecessary space. Good times really.

Arx Fatalis demo was great.

Fuck, that's a good one.

I definitely remember having a Dreamcast demo of Rayman 2, but nothing else there

DOOM, playing the first episode over and over and over and over again. I used to look at the screenshots they included of the other episodes in absolute awe. Like 10 years later I finally played the entire game.

I've no idea what it was called, it was a cool robot in 3rd person like ZoE and the only level was on some railroad tracks. I wish i could remember the name so i could play it then again maybe its really good cause nostalgia

the king of my demo-rich childhood alongside that one ff7 and bushido blade demo disk from square. god bless playstation magazine's sampler disks

Hulk demo on PC, no idea why. World in Conflict had an amazing demo that allowed multiplayer. I believe it allowed you to use everything, but you were restricted to one map.

Pac-Man World Rally

had a Doom 3 demo from one of those video game magazines
BF2 demo on my pc, with Strike at Karkand, played the FUCK out of that
it was either KOTOR or something else, maybe a Star Wars DVD set that a Republic Commando Demo and a Battlefront demo
not saying it was in the same place but I played them often

I have this exact generator. really good generator.
i played everything on it a fuck ton especially the mdk 2 and doa 2 demo.

Attached: untitled.jpg (1535x2161, 2.15M)

A lot of them. Tomb Raider II, Armored Core, Crash 2, a video of Time Crisis, Ace Combat 2, Silent Bomber, and the one I played the most was Xenogears.

I bought that after playing the demo!

Shaolin Monks came with "The Suffering 2". Area 51's demo was featured in MK Deception

i used to have to look away playing the original RE.

SAUCE

i had the demo of this fucking game too, back in, whatever, 1994 or 1995 or some shit.
terra nova strike force centauri had a CD demo that had 3 special missions for the demo that didn't come with the main game. very interesting stuff. i am glad i have it.

i still play that disc

basically every game on this is good
i'm a huge fan of freekstyle, it's like SSX tricky on dirt bikes.

Not a bad game but it does wear itself out and get pretty grindy after the first couple of areas so you really didn't miss too much.

100... wow.

occasionally same mate. it's the second of my many discs that survives and works fine to this day

Jerked off to that Nvidia fairy tech demo that you could download from their website for free countless times as a young lad.

Some random ass game demo I had on DVD back in like 2006. All I remember was that it was some military fps where you were like in the forest or jungle with other soldiers shooting mooks

You were replaced, the real you is dead, you are a memory-imprinted impostor, that's why you can't remember anything really, and anything further back than 4 years or so feels like a different lifetime.

The Urban Chaos demo that came with Hitman blood money. That shit was awesome. Never got around to playing the full game though.

Fucking this. Friends and I played the demo over and over again. Guess it's good only one of them actually bought it and reported it to us that it wasn't that good.

Moto Racer? Or maybe Motocross Madness? The former was fun af but only the latter stood out for the stunts and environments.

Doom. 1993

Me and my friend pretty much treated youtube.com/watch?v=vqkM5sD8HsQ like it was a full game and would explore the entire disc multiple times and get excited for every little video that played.

There was some ps2 mag demo disc that I got for the express purpose of playing the Lego Starwars II demo. I played that shit and some tony hawk game that was also on it for ages.

Thief 2 had a demo mission that used one of the main levels but with almost everything and all story-related dialogue and notes changed so as not to spoil anything, just to give a taste of the gameplay mechanics.

Pit fall on the PC
The PX game was easy as pie the real game was hard and I didn't play or enjoy it as much

Ff8
Love the game demo had a huge crush on quits the blonde girl teacher. Played the actual he gave up after the train boss fight. It felt too hard

In the mid 90s, I'd just buy every demo disk I could. Walmart had these for around $10 usually, and they'd provide hours of fun.
This was the time when shareware was popular, though; sometimes you'd get to play the first 1/3 of the entire game. Can you imagine a game releasing a demo like that today?

Attached: demo disk.png (2048x1536, 3.79M)

Daggerfall Betony Demo, which was essentially the entire game, but limited to an island that was probably 20 square miles big.

Things were better back then.

Fusion Frenzy.

Pretty sure it got more play time than the Project Gotham Racing CD I had it on.

dark forces

A friend gave me one of these that had as you say the first third of a shitload of FPS (Doom, Rise of the Triad, Descent I & II, Dark Forces)
Shit was cool.

roller coaster tycoon. until i bought it. i still have it. with all 3 expansions. ive bought 2 other chris sawyer games. rct2 and railroads or locomotion or someshit like that.

>Spyro the Dragon
>Metal Gear Solid
I forget what else was on the disc, but I had a demo disc that was all sorts of good.

The Beach level in Halo 1, got it from an Xbox Magazine, played the shit out of it until I could afford Halo and Wal-Mart had it in stock.

that's a great fucking game. you should try the full version if you haven't.

Arkham Asylum's demo

I unironically played it so much that my dad actually got sad and bought me the real game.

>I would play it for 12 hours a day after school
What's really funny is once he bought me the real game I started going outside with my friends and stopped playing it :^)

Half Life
Medieval 2 Total War
GTA 2 PC
Battlefield 2

I bought all 4 eventually.

You could go back, just stop buying games more than once/twice a year and download demos once a month off of steam/itch.io.

Sheeet was glorious...

remember how being club nintendo gold/platinum/whatever got you access to a smash 4 demo with five characters and FD unlocked? I wasn't a kid but I spent something like 30 hours on that.

Also (and this will surely out my identity to anyone that knows me) but I put some absurd amount of time into the Kingdom Hearts 3D demo, and I didn't even like KH, I just thought flowmotion was cool as shit. I think I have more time on the demo than on the actual game even.

Spyro: Year of the Dragon. I played the full game later and hoped a new classic game would be released (Hero's Tail was the closest we got). I occasionally still dream about new levels to this day.

The last time something remotely close to that happened was when Deus Ex Human Revolution got leaked. You might even wonder if it was just "leaked" as it seems like a convenient thing to let slip out.

I remember trying to get out of bonds on the ps2 driver parallel lines demo. What a great demo

>starcraft shareware

Fuck I played the shit out of this. My cousins showed it to me when I was over their place, and I became obsessed with it, so they let me take the demo disc home. I think it had like a 5-level campaign? I played those levels so many times

I wish I could remember. It was a beat game on PS2 where you rotated on a hexagon before guitar hero even existed.
It was trance/techno based with some low name DJs and you could customize your icon with premade shapes.

Would have the comfiest demo ever to play when going over Dad's.

The one with Syphon Filter, Bust a Groove, Bust a move, Coolboarders 3, Rugrats: search for reptar, Spyro, etc

Just cause 2. Real niggas will remember that when you spammed pause at the end of your 30 minute demo timer, you could get it to stop on zero and be able to play as long as you like anywhere on the map. Some parts of the game were unfinished but it was fucking amazing

Feck, i had this exact same demo.

My dumb teen self had to just chuck the disc on one of those spindles because i couldn't be bothered to perserve it.

ffs. why are teens dumb. so mad at myself.

rct is what got me into warez actually. was just thinking of it. i always couldnt stand that it had a 30 minute limit on it or something. So I went searching one day for a limit remover. found one. Then i played that park until it was filled with rides and stuff.
One day me and a guy was talking about computer games at work. He told me he had The Sims. I said oh thats cool and he was like yea. I had seen videos of it, like commercials and on techtv. He said u could build houses and live in them. i was like thats cool. Then he told me he'd let me borrow it. I was like uh. well ok. cause i knew you had to have the discs with computer games. I was like well m aybe he'll let me borrow it for 5 days if i get luucky. ill have to do nothing else for those 5 days to get a fill of it. might as well find a demo or something. One day he brings it and he goes here. borrow it. I was like, ok, but, uh dont yo have to have the disc? i thin maybe i had told him about finding the time limit remover on rct. and he said, oh you'll find a way. i was like ok. i went hom, then searched online for a way to play a game without the disc. it led me to clonecd. i cloned it and it wokred without the legit disc. iwas like holy shit. then i realized, you could share these files the program had made on my hardrive with other people and share games. i then used my p2p program to find other games. monopoly tycoon and other stuff like that. then my cousin found out i go t a ocomputer, and he talked to me on the phone and toldme to get online and asked me if i had mirc. i said yea and he said meet him at this server and this channel his nick was this. i said ok mines that. he then told me about release sites and search xdcc sites and mirc warez. holy shit. this was about right before gta3 came out. spend all the time downloading games i had after that. had just got dsl.

Sonic Adventure.
Playing Emerald Coast again and again.
I also like Twinkle Park because I kept thinking I could go beyond the level with glitches.

Now that you mention it, that reminds me of the time Terraria "leaked" on Yea Forums. It was the best publicity the game could have possibly gotten.

i really like the game but it is also extremely broken and unfair at times

I subscribed to playstation magazine so I always got those demo discs in the mail. There was some good shit on there that I still can't remember the name of. I always remember one game where you went through a forest and every time you beat an enemy you could transform into that enemy. The level ended at the time of this giant tree where you fought the boss. No idea what the game was though.

There was this game on the PS2, it was from this gaming magazine that my bro got. I think it had Viewtiful Joe 2 on the disc, amongst other demos. But this one game always caught my attention, it was like a cell-shaded third person action RPG. I don't remember the name but the art style was awesome, at the end of the demo you would fight this sphere shaped boss, but I never could because I was a stupid child. If anyone could get me the name that would be awesome.

The scanner thing in that game was legitimately fucking great.

Beneath a Steel Sky had a robot companion and a ventilation shaft scene where the character mentions better watch out or i'll get SUCKED OFF - i think you could die there.

You bet I played the shit out of that and Baku Baku Animal

but that also meant demo disks were just glorified menus to install the games

Lost Planet 2. Fuck that giant lizard boss fight is good.

welcome to my blog, when I was a child about 11, my first fps was the wake island multiplayer demo of battlefield 1942, I had played this demo for atleast 2 years, it was impressive how many people played this demo honestly, ironically despite buying 1942, wake island is still the only legitimate 1942 I've played, the rest of my youth was spent playing the desert combat mod for 1942, never bought battlefield 2 because desert combat was the same game but better.

Funny. It's insanely dumbed down and lacks any kind of micromanagement or base positioning.
Still, that's what Microsoft wanted with such a barebones RTS: to make it accessible to anyone.

just insanely fun to have control over the lives of these little men to die at you whim.
And my first time trying an rts.

UT 2003 and 2004. As a kid it seemed insane to me that they included the large scale battles with vehicles in the demo, even if the game mode had only one map, it's all I needed.

Never happened.

I had this demo disc for PS2 with Star Wars Jedi Starfighter on it. Played the shit out of that one level with the missiles.

I remember in the demo you'd get stuff like a composite sketch of 47 in the newspaper if you left witnesses, and if you went on a killing spree they would quote one of those mexican ladies who works in the packing section of the level who would describe you as an Angel of Death.
The newspaper in the demo was way deeper than the final version where you have like one paragraph describing how you killed the guy or saying he died from an accident and then the rest talking about the guy himself

Hmm, really? I wish there was a comparison screenshot between the newspapers with the level played the same way. I remember thinking Blood Money's newspaper system was awesome. And the ranking names too.

Now I know why boomers hate young people.

pc

Timesplitters 2, Syberia, every time.

Is she gonna shit? Ask for a friend.

Was more of an adolescent than a kid but the Phantasy Star Universe live demo for Xbox 360. That shit had its own micro community.

I remember buying nudes from some e-whore on that demo back in 08. Good times

Age of Empires 2 (was secretly installed on one of the school's laboratory computers).
The first Harry Potter game.

I know Warcraft 3 demo had an extended tutorial campaign. They eventually released those extra missions online for the full game.

I know some shareware games did this. They had the full game data and just kicked you out either after time limit or after beating a level. So technically this was possible.

Bugs Bunny: Lost in Time(?) that I had on a PSX demo disc. Great game.

I think FEAR 2 demo did a mash up of few levels from the game. A nice way to showcase all the game has to offer.. you went from shooty bits to scary bits to piloting the mech.

I didn't like that. It felt too much like a trailer. Not at all true to the game's overall pace.

Dude are you me?

Heavy Metal FAKK 2

You talking about old playstation underground demo disc? SHHiiiiiieeeeettt
I played the balls out of Silent Bomber
I never got the actual game.
The cd's are like 100 now if you can find one

For some reason I played the absolute shit outta this demo and another one where you could play as a toy plane, or Santa claus and I remember he had a jetpack or some shit. Strange times.

Crysis 2 had an MP demo. It was pretty dope. The only time I actually played Crysis multiplayer.

I played a sort of modified version of Crazy Taxi from a cereal box.

I miss those magazines that came with a disk filled with demos. I'd steal them every month when I went to the grocery store.

I played Heretic 2 recently. It runs alright. There's a mod out there with bunch of custom maps and fixes.

i remember that

The magazines my father bought came with ACTUAL games. Shit like Soul Reaver, Larry, that spaceship game, Blade, all that for free.

I loved that demo too played it so many times but eventually convinced mum and dad to buy me the full game

God of War 2 on the PS2

>Demo map is one of the biggest maps in the game
>Random number of suspects and their appearance
>Random suspect weaponary
>Random number of hostages and their appearance
>Random spawn points of both hostages and suspects
>Random level of agressivness and cowardice among suspects and hostages

So many hours...Every time you'd restart, it's a whole new experience.

Anyone remember Chicken Invaders and Hamsterball? I used to play those demos all the time back then.

Oh damn, I have that too. Not sure if it is modified actually... but I never played any other version so I can't tell.

Speaking of demos. I played Age of Empires demo for quite some time. I would ask my dad everyday when he got off from work if he bought the full copy already. I think I drove him crazy with that.

Another demo I remember vividly is Heroes of Might and Magic 3. I think it had only one map but I just kept replaying it over and over again. It was magical. Even back then I knew the game was special.

Then there's Captain Claw, another game where I played the two demo levels more than I actually played the final game. I could go on forever but these three stick out in my mind at this moment.

Only had the Anathema demo, what was the other one? Was it Invitation to a Party?

was a poorfag kid so I pretty much grew up on demos and shareware. The ones I'd play over and over again were
>Half-Life Uplink
>Tomb Raider 3
>Tresspasser
>Shogo
>Oddworld Abe's Exoddus
>Knights and Merchants
>Machines Wired for War
Back then I was so naive I thought that demos had the full game files with them and access must've been granted through a paywall of some sort, so after beating the demos I'd spend countless hours scouring the maps trying to escape the geometry, believing that I would somehow platform into the full game. Man, games were full of wonder back then.

forgot to mention pic related, one of the first games I can remember playing on my grandpa's computer, iirc the demo was on a microsoft home starter cd for windows 95 that came with other gems like Mind Maze and Dangerous Creatures.

Holy shit. I used to play the demo for months. We didnt have internet yet and nobody I knew had the game so I couldn't burn it for myself.

I played the demo level over and over. And then I discovered all the console commands. I played around with notarget and spawned some enemies etc. Then finally after months some guy in my math class (I was in 6th grade) told me he had the game. I went to his house after school and he burned me the game.
I really have never been happier. I was so hyped while driving my bike home with the jedi knight 2 cd in my hand.

Also in late 2002 I was obsessed with the Gothic 2 demo that was on the german PCGAMES magazine disc I believe. You were able to go from Xardas Tower up to the harbor town. I played it so much even when I already had the full version of Gothic 2. Our PC was so old that the full version with the full open world was way too taxing for the PC. But the limited demo version ran great. So I mostly played around with the demo.

>Scan cyborg black ops enemies
>Scanner says they're carrying condoms
Don't know why I thought it was so funny at the time. Probably because I was 9.

>Oh damn, I have that too. Not sure if it is modified actually... but I never played any other version so I can't tell.
It only lets you play arcade and I think the song is changed afaik
