Why are people genuinely wanting a remaster of this? Its a good game but we need something new.

Wow user! That looks like a good game!

Unironically how I feel whenever I revisit either Adventure game. Its just something about them.

We havebn't had an adventure style game in over a decade, it WOULD be new

ANd sonic team constantly trying "new" shit iunstead of sticking with what works is half the problem

I wonder who came up with that pose and why

>Love SA1 and played the shit out of it, replayed the Sonic stages countless times, love the style and atmosphere
>Couldn't give a single shit about SA2
What do you call this

Shit taste both games are peak soul.

It blows my mind that they STILL haven't brought them back. Not even as a shitty phone game or something.

God FUCK this port to hell and back. Worst port I've ever seen and actively stifled the game's reputation.
I've been tempted to code my own port and pitch it to Sega but I know its a retarded fever dream.

Being old enough to understand that Shadow is lame anime shit

Early 3D Sega games are peak aesthetics.

Sonic controls much better in SA1 than SA2. Sure it's more unrealistic but it's more fun.

>I've been tempted to code my own port and pitch it to Sega but I know its a retarded fever dream.
That work is pretty much done. The Dreamcast Conversion is some good shit.

Is the GC version bad too? I thought only the PC version was awful.

Indeed.

Slightly better but still worse than dreamcast.

The funnest early 3d platformer.

Good taste. The Sonic stages in SA1 are way more interesting than the ones in SA2. City Escape, Green Forest and MAYBE Metal Harbor are the only good ones and Casinopolis is the only truly bad Sonic stage from SA1.

me too, first step would be to get an "open source" version of the game running, my problem is that most of the main essential code like sonic's control is very spaghetti, so it makes it hard to reverse

>Casinopolis
I hated it so much as a kid. At least it had the amazing Nights Into Dreams music

>no Final Rush or Sky Rail
You have absolute garbage taste

It's the version of the game I own, I really don't know what's supposed to be wrong with it other than some of the textures being blander than in the original. Seems to run and play just fine

I love both games, but I love the tighter controls of Sonic/Shadow in SA2 more.

Rail grinding is the absolute worst thing about 3D Sonic and should have never been introduced.

Brainlet opinion rail grinding in Sa2 was completely momentum based and required balancing making it as interactive and skill based as running, rail grinding only got bad in Heroes but everything was bad in Heroes.

>was completely momentum based and required balancing
You held or mashed B to go on a completely linear path and it was impossible to fall off. No deviation allowed other than rail switching. It's shit. There's no reason to do it over normal running and platforming, which has far more layers of control and possible means of interaction.

Strong disagree.
I don't think there's a Sonic Adventure 2 level I dislike when you play as sonic/shadow except for maybe Crazy Gadget.
Whereas Ice Cap Zone, Casinopolis, both Sky Chases, and certain parts of Lost World are either boring or extremely dumb, at least on replays.

Rail grinding in SA2 is fun though? It's not like later games where it's just static and you don't do anything except for maybe switch rails.
It uses momentum so you get an added speedy start if you're already going fast when you hop on it, you have to change which side of the rail Sonic/Shadow are leaning on depending on the angle of the rail in order to maintain/gain speed, and you can crouch while going on a downward sloped rail that's straight.

The only way I can see someone disliking rail grinding in SA2 is if they haven't taken the time to get good at it.

Attached: 1563368983603.gif (311x311, 1002K)

>There's no reason to do it over normal running and platforming, which has far more layers of control and possible means of interaction.
Except for the fact that it's quicker? If you do City Escape you have the option of not using the rails at all, but unless you're fucking garbage at rail grinding, it's quicker to hop on the rails hence why non-glitch speedruns use the rails instead of spindashing.

SA2 is absolute garbage, so good taste.

C H A O
At least mods and fangames have our back.

>It's not like later games where it's just static and you don't do anything except for maybe switch rails.
This is an outright lie. Just because they programmed actual physics to it does not mean they did anything interesting with it. Shit, Heroes was more interesting since at least it had the decency to put enemies in the rail sections so you actually had to do something other than just move from point A to point B

>You held or mashed B to go on a completely linear path and it was impossible to fall off.
I can see you don't know what you are talking about, there are many was to increase your speed when grinding in Sa2 and mashing B was only a thing post Heroes. You could use your momentum to jump off the rails and get huge height going to different paths or just outright skipping stuff. This is another case of someone blaming the mechanic just because they are shit at them.

No, I'm blaming the mechanic because it's a dull fucking mechanic. There is no reason to do something like that when you could accomplish the same thing with a ramp or a chain of enemies or what have you while not being locked into one direction like it's a fucking boost game.

But you aren't locked in one direction there are always multiple ways to go when grinding with a few exceptions. Again you are garbage and don't understand how to experiment.

Being on a rail is being locked in one direction. Switching to another rail is just switching the direction you're locked in.

You can always skip 90% of rails in the game so why are you bitching?
Most people find the rails fun because there's a lot more to them than just mashing B like in Heroes, or just boosting on them like in Unleashed and Generations.

If you fucked up on the rails either by failing to lean properly, or holding down B when you're not supposed to, you came to a crawl and had to restart.
If you succeeded then you went infinitely quicker on the rails than you would have not using the rails.

It sounds to me like you hate grinding in SA2 because you sucked at it or didn't understand how it worked.
Even if you genuinely just despise grinding in SA2 it doesn't matter since the game almost always gives you an alternate way to proceed without using the rails. The same cannot be said for Heroes or Unleashed/Generations.

Attached: croc.gif (299x299, 2.59M)

this update wont even be that interesting,
we'll have revamped kindergarten next update if we dont split up by then cuz fuck SA2PC and fuck Chao karate

Again using your momentum from rails you can reach alternate paths and skip parts of the level. You are never locked into a situation it isnt scripted garbage like it is in the other games. This is like someone playing the classics without every exploring and using momentum and saying "this game is boring you just hold right the whole time" you are retarded.

Is not getting a remake anytime soon and people who think it is are living in a fantasy world. You're going to get another mediocre boostshit game and you're going to like it.

Attached: 1547403093327.png (796x796, 981K)

Oh fuck off, the levels being discussed (Sky Rail and Final Rush) literally start you off on rails and they contain parts where you must use rails to progress (unless there's some speedrun glitch shit I'm missing).

And again, the game has other ways to propel yourself using momentum without locking you in one direction. How many times do I have to say this? Rails are shit because they needlessly limit your movement and are mostly used in lieu of classic style level design where one path would be above another. They literally are basically boost before boosting, you can fuck up just as easily while boosting if you jump at the wrong time.

I felt that basically every Sonic stage in Adventure had some sort of spectacle that made it memorable. Obviously the killer whale from Emerald Coast is the most obvious, but busting out of a tornado, running down a building, snowboarding away from an avalanche, etc..., were all really cool as a kid. I don't remember SA2 having any individual moments on that level outside of running from the truck and maybe hitching onto a rocket in metal harbor.

I'll concede that Lost World drags for a bit (particularly the snake chamber but maybe when you're walking on the glowing panels too) but Ice Cap is cool and Sky Chase is just a minigame so I don't count it any more than I count the highway minigames in SA2.

youtube.com/watch?v=9bM2r3qTeCk

What did they mean by this?

>you're going to like it
wrong

>Oh fuck off, the levels being discussed (Sky Rail and Final Rush) literally start you off on rails and they contain parts where you must use rails to progress (unless there's some speedrun glitch shit I'm missing).
Literally everyone skipped most of Final Rush's rails whenever possible as kids. You don't even have to use a glitch or physics, you just have to not be blind or retarded.
Sky Rail is a stage centered around rails and you still aren't forced to use them in 70% of the stage.

Attached: 1546207350648.webm (770x469, 2.94M)

worse lighting engine, worse textures, worse bugs, worse lip syncing, worse collision detection, etc.

basically SADX got fucked pretty badly

>Rails are shit because they needlessly limit your movement
They don't you just don't know how to use them.

>Can't move left on a rail
>can't move right on a rail
>can't move back on a rail
>only goes forward unless you get off the fucking rail
Are you playing with cheat engine or something?

Ice Cap is cool for the last sections where you're snowboarding, but most of the level isn't that part. Most of it is the annoying and slow ascent upward that isn't too bad on a first playthrough, but on replays of the game it's just tedious and boring how slow it is.
SA1 has a lot of moments like Sonic 1 where the game just forces you to go slow. SA2's Sonic/Shadow stages basically do what Sonic 2 did to Sonic 1's formula and made everything tighter and quicker.

They are a tool to use momentum same a ramps. Ramps also limit your movement if you are only thinking of the process of going up a ramp. If you aren't willing use your tools you are given thats your fault not the game.

A man with taste. SA1 has a better level design too.

>make sonic feel more sluggish in gameplay
>make his sections faster than SA1
I never understood this, SA1 feels so good in comparison to SA2 but the pacing in the first game is worse than the second

Best taste. Knowing both games are great and not trying to start fanbase infighting is the best.

Don't worry, Tails will respawn back.

Attached: source.png (1200x898, 825K)

I really hope they remake Adventure. Even just the first game. I grew up on it. I think DX is the first 3D game I properly played. It has a special place in my heart, and I really want to see it again.

But what level is he in?

MUHAHAHAHA IF IT ISN'T SONIC

CAN'T HOOOLD ON MUCH LONGER...

SA1 > Generations = Unleashed > Colors >Heroes > Lost World > SA2 > Forces.
Correct?? I think so.

That's an interesting perspective. I would say that SA2 has a more consistent momentum but my two biggest complaints about it compared to the first game are (1) as I've already mentioned, much less spectacle in the stages and (2) the game just feels slower to me. It might just be the controls, but Sonic in SA1 felt like he was going FAST. Nothing in SA2 was able to duplicate that feel for me.

I can understand your point about SA1 forcing you to slow down every once in a while, but I actually enjoy that because it provides a nice contrast to when you are just blitzing through a stage.

No. Generations is significantly better than SA1. Heroes and Unleashed are both worse than SA2. I haven't played Force, Lost World, or Colors.

BUT I WILL NEVER LET GOOOOOO

Attached: shut up tails.jpg (300x300, 15K)

The nerfed the spin dash heavily. It has way less distance and has a noticeable startup time in SA2. I get that it's like that to prevent you from breaking the levels but a ridiculous spin dash is something Sonic should have imo.

Sa1 and 2 >>>>> any other 3D Sonic game. Boost is absolute garbage but atleast Unleashed looked pretty and Colors is the same tier as Forces shit controls and all.

youtube.com/watch?v=mgYiGUr3WJk

SA2 > Generations > Unleashed > SA1 > Colors > Lost World > Heroes > Forces > 06
Granted I didn't play much of Lost World but I hated Heroes so maybe count them as equal?

The difference with rails is that they are more than that. Rails are mostly a replacement for level design. They cut through large sections of a level and skip out on any kind of platforming (other than at the very end of the rail) for a boost-like rollercoaster. The reason we don't get branching levels with different paths like the classic games is mostly because instead of a real upper path, they just put a fucking rail in the air and call it good.

Switch Heroes and SA1 and it's about right

I feel the opposite. For me SA2 just feels faster even disregarding that it has more consistent and smooth momentum in its level design.
I don't feel fast in SA1 unless i'm spamming the spindash, and that just feels cheap and exploitative.

SA2 forces you to go slow whenever you need to somersault, which unfortunately comes up a fair bit

>The difference with rails is that they are more than that. Rails are mostly a replacement for level design. They cut through large sections of a level and skip out on any kind of platforming (other than at the very end of the rail) for a boost-like rollercoaster.
Again you are wrong i'm starting to think you didn't even play the game at all. Final Rush for example has a shit ton of level design you can only access by using your rail momentum to access that is off the "linear" path you love to talk about so much also look the webm here to see how rails lead to more platforming and interesting momentum challenges. Just admit you were wrong and go get good at rails faggot.

It halts your momentum, sure, but it doesn't force you to go slow for a sustained period of time. Right after you've cleared the small gap you have to somersault you can just build your speed back up.
In SA1 there's constant sections of levels where you just have to go slow and there's nothing you can do about it.

Attached: expectations.jpg (845x360, 92K)

That webm literally proves my point, it's only interesting when he gets off the fucking rail. You keep saying "using the rail momentum," but that's not the part where you're actually on the rail. That's where you get off of it. Grinding on a rail itself is shit, and according to you the entire point of it is to get off the rail as fast as possible, so in a sense, it kinda seems like you agree with me.

Not him, but;
>The levels are shit because you're trying to get through them as fast as possible!

see
Can you not read? You are literally complaining because you don't understand how to use tools in the game they are no different than ramps if anything they require more skill. This is getting sad is your ego so big you can't admit you are wrong.

You don't even know what I'm arguing anymore. Since you can't refute my points, I'll accept that as a concession.

>No argument
Thank you

Adventure 3 when

Attached: yay.jpg (1024x768, 80K)

Hard to argue with someone who only ever said "git gud" like a retard from the beginning.

>They limit your movement
So do ramps their purpose is to facilitate momentum allowing you to attack the level in interesting ways and lead to alternate paths
>They make the levels more linear
Already proven wrong multiple times
You have no arguments you are just crying because you can't move left and right on them which completely defeats the point of them in the first place.

Nobody actually wants that.

>So do ramps
Ramps use the momentum you've already built up from the whatever the rest of the level is and last for two seconds. Rails you do nothing but sit there and build momentum and then wait until you can jump off, which is boring, and can last for a minute or even longer.

>They make the levels more linear
That's not what I said, you shithead. I said they use them instead of designing an upper part of a level. They're cheap and lazy.

>Ramps use the momentum you've already built up from the whatever the rest of the level is and last for two seconds
So do rails. Your ground speed carries over to the rail.
>and can last for a minute or even longer.
Only if you don't use momentum and go down the rails at the slowest speed possible. The longest rail in the game in the beginning of final rush lasts 20 seconds.
>I said they use them instead of designing an upper part of a level.
Again this was proven wrong rails LEAD to upper paths of level if you use your momentum jumps correctly on them.

I do.

Nah.

I do.

Not him but by the time I reached 25, I grew nostalgic for that cheese fest shit. Anything that has someone like Shadow is super charming.

I didn't realise till recently that the massive crater Eggman built his base on was the space left behind when Angel Island rose into the sky.

Actually despite it being boostshit it's pretty similar to SA1 when you think about it.
Tornado sections, hub worlds where you can talk to humans, the fact that you travel all over the world to fight off a mystical evil that Eggman has once again unleashed...

It just needs multiple characters instead of just two playstyles

You know what I think they could do. I think they could do a remake of the Shadow the Hedgehog game minus the swearing, overt edginess, aliens, and Shadow using real fire arms. And instead of trying to be a Sonic game, they could give it a unique identity with the help of Atlus by making it an RPG. Could possibly redeem Shadow as a character and help the brand.

Huh, I always assumed this was the back of the ship.

Which reddit thread did you copy this from? I'm in need of a laugh

I want to make a low-poly game (already have the plot and gameplay figured out) but don't know the first thing about modeling. Any idea on where I should start?

get blender, look up beginner tutorials. look at existing models to see how people do their edgeloops and pack their textures

Will do (once I upgrade my computer), thanks user

Holy shit!

That's what i was talking about, but this retard thought i was only talking about the name

Why did Sonic games lose their massive amounts of SOUL after Adventure? Is it because it went multiplat?

In part 2 of sky deck, just before you run along the bit with the planes taking off, look behind you. You'll see the whole section you were on break away and fall into the abyss.

Oh my god! HOW DID I NEVER NOTICE THIS?! BTW, did Amy or Big fuck up the ship as well when they went to Hot Shelter, since we know Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles had something to do with the rest of the ship going down.?

Because they decided to trim the fat that was holding the series back, and you think anything that is clearly unpolished is soulful regardless of whether it was good or bad.

No, the Egg Carrier crashing is entirely Sonic/Tails/Knuckles' fault. Sonic and Tails fuck up the left wing and Knuckles messes with the control stick.

The series still had soul in after the Adventure series, I believe it was after Unleashed when they just stopped caring, Generations was the last bastion of soul they had left before just saying fuck it.

Makes sense

Everything new in Generations was soulless it was just carried by the soul of older games.

Colors > everything else
I grew up with Adventures and I really couldn't stand most of it. Sonic's levels were decent but the controls and levels design were so subpar compared to the Genesis games I played before.
