Looking for games like pic related. One of my all time favorites, even despite, or perhaps BECAUSE of the jank. I heard the latest X was a shitty release, did they ever fix it up? If not, are there any other sort of privateer style games that have come out in the last couple of years?

X4 Foundations is gettng better due to patches, a big update is coming soon then give it a try.

Elite Dangerous is also going strong online, I like the realism of it.

Terran Conflict, or even better Albion Prelude with the mod that allows you to play the TC campaign

But there is fuck all to do in Elite other than space truck grind, and every time a good trade route is found its nerfed to fuck
Also made me laugh you need to grind special weapons to fight the aliens... and they removed the aliens for some reason now right?

This is always true with Egosoft games. It's half the reason they still support them 10 years later. Foundations at least came out with a lot of much needed features. The engine is still clunky as fuck and I don't think they should be focusing on the out-of-ship experience so much but whatever. It's cool.

Thargoids? They rarely intercept you at if at all... what's that term they use for interstellar ftl? That one. They do spawn in select sectors though and attack outposts and they do need their own weapons. Also, trade routes automatically nerf itself because the economy is pretty dynamic. It's a semi living world, user.

We both know Frontier actively mess up any trade route that's "too" good
I've had the game since beta, I get all the expansions for free. Its not worth the money at all its such a shallow repetitive grindy game
I'm still a little annoyed they got rid of the ability to play offline despite it being promised in the Kickstarter, and they waiting until just before release to do so

I've only really played it seriously this year with a new character and I didn't have any money problems because of the stupid good mining gameplay. The offline shit is scummy as fuck but at least it has "fake offline" now where you don't get to see XmastahKillaH2003 in your own space. The engineering grind... yeah, that one's a bit rough but I managed to finish 99% of my ship needs in a couple of days. They're just boring as fuck.

Mining in ED is the best mining mechanic in any space game that's been released to date so I'm hoping they improve the trading mechanic too eventually too. Not bad for a $10 space game desu.

How do I properly get into X3:AP? It's getting boring to trade energy cells for hours to hire an AI trader. Do mods make early game more interesting?

What exactly do you expect to change once you outsource your trading to AI? The game is not suddenly going to be exciting fun after that. If you aren't enjoying it now you probably won't be later on either. I'm assuming you know there is more to do in the game than just trade.

I wouldn't say X4 is shit. It just lacks a lot of content, like several alien races, sectors and ships/equipment.
Supposedly they'll be included in expansions that are to come out this year/next year.

why would you play X2 when X3 is the best in the series?

My PC was on it's way out by the time X3 came out and it was basically unplayable for me. Then when I got a new PC I just never ended up getting around to it.

Stop misleading people. X4 is shit and always will be because AI is dead and devs doesn't give a flying fuck about it, because economy is dead and devs doesn't give a flying fuck about it, because ship design is garbage both visual and customization wise and devs doesn't give a flying fuck about it. There is not a single aspect in X4 which is better compared to X3. Forcing online features doesn't add any value to X series whatsoever.
