when he uses the zoom variant of his up special he enters the "think/spell select" pose that is shown off before, so he's probably gonna have to scroll through every spell to get what he wants

He isn't. The games come out with a midi soundtrack half because it's traditions, half because he wants people to buy the orchestrated OST and go to the concerts, which release that same time as the original games.

Which is why there has never been an issue for Square to have the orchestrated OST in re releases of games. There is no issue with the west that's a stupid meme, because Dragon Quest 8 was able to get the orchestrated OST even when Japan didn't get it, of course it cost extra.

Smash is releasing 2 years after the last mainline release, so it isn't cannibalizing any orchestrated CD sales. There's also 10 or games worth of orchestrated soundtrack that it definitely isn't competing with. It all comes down to how expensive the songs are and how much Smash is willing to pay.
