Awakening really wasn't bad. Like, at all.

It just lessened up on a lot of the harder aspects of Fire Emblem up to that point.
And the teamup mechanic was straight up broken in ways that weren't immediately apparent. But it wasn't terrible.

Last Fire Emblem game I played was Awakening. What was so bad about Fates? Looking to get back into the series but didn’t want to skip Fates unless there are several reasons why I shouldn’t play it.

Fates has one of the worst stories in the entirety of all video games. Nobody acts the way a sensible person should during the most critical moments in Fates, and this is more obvious and outlandish during Conquest's story where everyone deals with an obviously evil prick of a king because he brought them into the family originally.

It's not subtle. It's twirling mustache pointlessly evil just to be a cunt type of evil. And nobody, not a single one of the characters call this personality out until the very end of the game. I don't care for story in my video games, but it was so fucking infuriatingly stupid that it drags the game down as a whole. When you've got a guy who doesn't care about story in their video games MAD AS SHIT about the story, that's when you've written one of the worst video game stories of all time.

The funniest thing about Edelgard's route is that she proves that the Church are the good guys. The Church was the one that put laws in place to prevent Adrestia from invading other countries. Right after killing off the church, she leads her army to conquer all the neighboring countries, with no actual reason, and with no provocation from them.

Three Houses really did go full SMT with the routes, but it downright handled routes far better in my opinion. There's a lot of distinction in the plot between routes, unlike SMT where Law, Neutral, and Chaos has its alignment split around the tail end of the game, and the distinctions aren't really major outside of a couple bosses.

this is what i've read so far - better than awakening but worse than conquest, objectives changing mid-fight, reinforcements triggered depending on how you act, more anti-turtling. i'd still wait until more info if actual gameplay is your concern since there's no idea if each house is easier/harder than others since story supposedly changes who they face

Dimitri isn't a psycho. He has a few screws loose because of a tragic past and Edelgard's betrayal, but he comes around in the end.

It's a pretty believable estimate. You're going to be spending a whole lot of time just figuring out the systems and how to prepare your army even if you never have problems with a map.
In a few months we'll have efficiency strats and everything will be documented so you know how to spend your time but 50~ hours a route makes a lot of sense at the moment, low-balling your very first go.

The only FE game I've played is Awakening, and sadly I had to give up cause I got to a mission that was too tough. You start in the middle of an open field, SURROUNDED by enemies, and you have to kill their king or commadner or something (Wahlen?). I gave up.

Awakening is a bit of a joke, it's a game with no balance. You either curbstomp the enemy or it happens to you. Give Three Houses a try, from what we have heard the game has much better balancing.

Normal is easy and hard is normal for this game.

Yeah you can pick Classic/Casual and Normal/Hard Mode. During Hard mode you can't endlessly grind as those maps require points to be spend on. On normal those maps cost 0 and you can farm them infinitely. But you can always switch from hard to normal but not the other way around. I am still at the beginning but it's not completely bonkers like lunatic and not completely brain dead on hard.

Like Claude deals with the evil cult and revived Nemesis because his path is the one that results in the evil cult getting the plot macguffin instead of the Empire/Church, which is why the evil cult was able to do a lot.

obviously easier on some chars than others, but you can go against lower lvl / good affinity enemies 1v5 and just ffwd the animations. im not sure, but i think fights against beasts actually give a ton of points on each action.
but overall im not sure its worth it, many of the class mastery abilities are dogshit and it seems better to level arms skills since those give much beefier bonuses.

A lot of Lord-deaths are in cutscenes or story I'm afraid. But on the other hand, one story death is rad as fuck, Edelgard's death in the golden Deers route.

You won't get that option since edelgard is the final boss instead of a side one like claude.
