I'm about to play pic related for the first time, are there any mandatory mods I should get, or should I just run vanilla for the first playthrough?
KOTOR
Just don't grind too many levels before you get the chance to be a jedi
Always vanilla for a first time playthrough.
Ignore , min-maxing in this game is pointless. Do whatever you want for a first playthrough. Also leave this thread if you don't want to get spoiled.
If you play the second game, download the restored content mod.
Vanilla is good enough on it's own but for my gorillionth playthrough I played with The Brotherhood of Shadows.
Which mod was it that gave you the master's sabers?
maybe a widescreen mod? I don't remember what/if I used anything but vanilla content is fine, don't forget to run as administrator and disable "frame buffer effects" and anti-aliasing as it gave me some crashes
Vanilla for Kotor 1, restored content mod for motor 2
Just make sure to get the patch or update so you can go to Yavin
I'd say get a jedi at the start mod, because otherwise you go through the tutorial area without being a jedi and any levels you get in those other classes are levels you don't get force shit, don't get to improve on jedi stats, and are generally wasted. Not that you need to be anywhere near cap to finish the game anyway, but sitll. It's annoying. Other than that, no. Don't download anything that skips taris, it's amazing the first time around.
level up the main character as little as possible (ideally not at all) until you get off taris
>it's amazing the first time around.
And yet the most downloaded mod is the one that removes Taris entirely.
It's important if you want the chance at more force powers without having to mod the game.
Ignore both of these. Grind as much as possible, but DON'T level up. Store the levels until you're a Jedi, then dump them. I managed to become a jedi at level 2 in one playthrough by relying on my allies to do the heavy lifting, then immediately jumped to something like level 8 Jedi after gaining it.
For the second game, if you play it, DO use the restored content mod for all playthroughs, including the first one. They only added stuff that the developers intended to add, but didn't have time for. The devs even gave them their notes to work off of, and unused assets.
Yeah because the second and all subsequent times after the first time you play it, it's a worthless, long, drawn out tutorial. Do you not remember fucking around in the arena the first time? How about doing all that shit in the underground? The gangs? It's arguably the most solid, least buggy part of the entire game.
Tfw I actually enjoy Taris each time
>min-max
This is pointless. Kotor is an extremely easy game, there's no reason to have a first-timer get himself pissed at the game for literally no reason. Leave that level-2-jedi stuff until after you've played through a few times.
Min-maxing is fun. What's the point of stats and attributes if you're not going to eek out as much as you can from them?
Sure, it's fun. In kotor 2, I like turning Mira into a blaster-wielding goddess that outputs almost 600 damage per round. But leave that shit until after your first playthrough. Let him learn what he's doing first.
>all this min max BS
jesus
Just play it. It's an RPG, play it and make your chocies. Enjoy it and don't becomse a meta lore sperg like most of the people who post in Kotor threads.
Also don't go to any kotor thread until you beat the game
I just started trying to play this and all the widescreen mods ive tried don't work. What do I do with the steam version?
>muh minmax
>not getting to level 8 as a Scout for the implant feats
