P5's friendships didn't make sense relating to the MC. At the very least P4 established it was a small town so a new transfer, is neat, and didn't immediately go "WELP U FRIENDS NOW". It did take a while for people to acknowledge you and do anything outside of just say hello at school

Ryuji only talks to you because you happen to be walking to school together and end up in the castle, and the two of you are both delinquent loners so you may as well hang out. Ann only joins you because she already knows Ryuji, figures out that you're up to something with Kamoshida, and basically forces herself onto the team. Morgana is only there to show you the ropes. Everyone else basically blackmails their way aboard. It's not like you're tripping over friends for no reason.
