Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Why did BotW have such little enemy variety? If this was going to be the Zelda game that focused almost exclusively on the overworld, shouldn't it have had more enemies besides Bokoblins, Moblins, and Lizalfos?

It was rushed, it's a beta tech demo for the sequel which will be the actual game.

To be fair the enemies in BOTW are far more interactable than enemies in previous games. It’s not as if the Bokoblins in this game are really equal to the Bokoblins in say, Twilight Princess which only had one function.

Well said, and since the sequel is being worked on, we can probably expect even MORE enemies

This was one of the few gripes I actually had with the game. I'd love to see redesigned armos, like-likes, leevers, redead/gibdo. I think botw had a really good style for monsters and I really wanted a variety on par with even the first on the NES. I hope they rectify it for the asset reuse sequel.

They picked some of the more boring enemies as well. Why were there no redeads, Gibdos, iron knuckles, darknuts bubbles, etc

The limited enemy variety was a real shame with the scope of the game setting my expectations so high, but since it seems like BotW2 will be a sort of remix of the first game's map and concepts, I hope that leaves room for loads of classic enemies to make an appearance. I don't have much hope in whatever entirely new enemies we get, though, as BotW's all seemed to be based off of that single walking tank spider enemy. Granted, that one enemy is great, but the many other variants were a little dull due to all of them being so similar.

Yeah, although the depth of interaction with some of the enemies, like bokoblins, moblins, lionels etc. was great, it was really lacking in variety when the series usually prides itself on such a thing. If it can bring back enemies like redeads, gibdos, iron knuckles, (true) stalfos and stalchildren, armos, like-likes, wolfos, tektites, bombchu etc...

Would it be realistic for that many different species to roam around?

They spent the majority of development crafting the physics and world, the content came second.
I hope BotW2 is a huge upgrade.

sauce me boss

I've always wondered if Zelda could wield the Master sword

Especially since they're just reusing the same world they should be able to focus on content.

yes? Given the size of Hyrule there should be far more variety in terms of creatures, Lizalfos shouldn't be showing up in snow regions

Moblins, Lizalfos and Lynels are the most common enemies who tie up and gangbang Link

Here's a different answer. One thing that sets this game apart from other Zelda games is that the game has a lot more wildlife than any previous Zelda game. Wind Waker had pigs, Twilight Princess had some animals but they were mostly NPCs for Wolf Link to interact with, and Cuccoos have served the exact same functions in every Zelda game. Meanwhile in Breath of the Wild we have foxes, wolves, donkeys, sand seals, boars, does, muses, dogs etc. Hell wolves and Bears can be classified as enemies since they will attack you regardless if you attack them or not, and most of the bipedal animals can be mounted.
So my guess is that they cut down the enemies to put in more wild life. Whether that was for the better is up to preference.

I can understand why they had so few in the game, but DLC should've added more.

Lack of enemy variety, the only reward for exploration being shrines and korok seeds, and no good dungeons make BotW a huge snore.

The best part of the whole game was unironically Hyrule Castle because of how it was basically a gauntlet of enemies and a dungeon filled with good loot you could grab early on if you were good enough.

I hope BotW2 has more areas like Hyrule Castle and a great variety of enemies. Stalfos being copy pasted Bokoblins was one of the laziest things that annoyed me about how they approached enemies in the game.

>Why did BotW have such little enemy variety?
Don't know, but it is my only problem with the game.

well that and Master Mode sucking dick.

I couldn't find it through the search things.

It's not just from some Patreon is it?

The development time was 5 years, had one of the biggest development staff of any Nintendo-published game ever, and was delayed like 3 times.
Call it bad or focused on the wrong things but it definitely wasn't rushed.
