One of the reasons GoT was so big is how many plotlines are going out from having so many PoV characters. In Witcher is very heavily Geralt and Ciri and they will probably inject Yen doing her own thing too. Its not like some crazy shit is happening with a whole subset of characters that won't meet the other guys for multiple seasons. This shit was DoA from the inevitable budget problems and rushing story content. 8 episodes and the trailer is packed with stories from Last Wish and the main novels

Anyway, Game of Thrones is a HBO show (which doesn't necessarily mean it is good perse), which is a whole different thing.
And what do you mean, it would be more beneficial for them to emulate Game of Thrones or some other shitty fantasy show/movie than staying true to the source material, which they and their target audience don't care nor know about. They (Netflix) only cares about getting money and using the Witcher trademark to bank off of.
