The games became so popular that the show is being made not for the best selling book series, but off the basis of the game's spreading the name around by a massive degree to a younger audience than book readers tend to be. Even if he accepted CDPR's offer, the games would have still blown up and a successor to GoT would have been looked at which leads us to here.

GoT people who also didn't read those books, who also didn't really care how the show turned out in season 6, 7, 8 and even 5 and some of 4. There is a fantasy show void right now, and they are a year ahead of Lord of the Rings. Hell, when the first game came out, they were still working on the translation for the first book. That the translation quality drops off hard after book 3 or so and reading it starts to feel like a chore.

Yes and CDPR offered Sapkowski to change and write the story the way he wanted it. This was WAY before the first game and even CDPR asked his blessing if they could make the game FOLLOWING the story of the books instead but Sapkowski turned it all DOWN. So thats why CDPR had to make up its own story in which Sapkowski got pissed off about. Why get pissed off if CDPR offered him to do what he wanted and turn it down? CDPR specifically asked him how the story could've been after the books but Sapkowski was all bitchy about it.

Sapkowski is the best fantasy writer of our age, but to understand his books you need (at the very least) to have a PhD in History\Philosophy, have 130+ IQ, acquire refined taste in literature (with at least 30 years of experience as a reader) and of course you have to learn Polish.
Only then can you truly understand them, but since 99.9% of people are retards - this is definitely not a series for everyone.
