As fun as Splatfests are for the community pick sides stuff, Splatfests were always locked to Turf War and Turf War is hands down the worst game mode of the game.
I love Splatoon but I always kind of had to force myself to play the Splatfests and just told myself I had to due to them being limited events.

From a gameplay perspective literally any other part of Splatoon is leagues better. And all those parts remain just fine.
Get Splatoon 2. Play the single player / octo expansion. Play Salmon Run. And play the ranked modes.

It still has regular online play and single player like any other proper shooter and will as long as Switch online support exists, it just no longer has the "games as a service" events, which is a paradigm I thought Yea Forums hated anyway. People played and still play any given counterstrike game without events like this until the next one comes out for example, weird how doomsayers hold Splatoon to a different standard over a feature that was just a nice little bonus.

There never has been. You have to grind for hours just to unlock basic features like "more than 1 game mode". Splatoon is a horrible game to jump into years later, made worse that it still hasn't dropped in price.
