since my original point was that more shield will slow down the game, i probably should have used a more broader description than just 'shields'.

any character that has an ability that reduces the amount of damage you take will increase the average TTK and therefore slow down the game in one way or another. so you can add the healing supports to the list of 'things that slow down the gameplay' to that list.
even if you consider the 2-2-2, tanks are not the only classes with 'shields' or rather 'damage reducing abilities'

It would be and was shitty to balance around five winstons and a mercy, or three torbs two reins and a zen.
There's simply too many heroes to balance around outside of restrictive comps. Less freedom and dumb/fun comps, but remember that when OW was launched Yea Forums was complaining about how shitty some stacked teams were and how impossible it was to counter them.
Personally whenever I install the game for whatever holiday I avoid comp completely because of how restrictive the mainline game has become.

They went really safe with his design and didn't utilize the singularity enough or do anything at all with his split personality. They just have went full Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde with him where his ult is his other side and it augments his basic abilities and kept the slam as the finale.

Overwatch is at it's best when you're up against a dumb strat and are able to creatively bypass it. Most recent example is skillful Orisa and Roadhog gameplay shitting on shield reliant gameplay because of their abilities to re position characters.
I can already see the weaknesses in sigma,

>unless he is in a choke it is easy to angle around it with junk, moira, or another sigma
>since his shield is static but doesn't reset on redeployment shattering it is easy since he can't withdraw it like Rein
There's also how you can use him to counter other strats you can come across

That's just off of what I've seen in OP, don't even know what his ult is or the full range of his abilities.

Hell as I was typing this I just found out that since they're mini blackholes his projectiles have a very small pull to them to punish retreating.

I feel like the game was originally not on a very tight leash because they expected it to just be somewhat popular shootan game. Then it came out and was a big hit, so they tightened the noose massively which crushed creativity. Of course having a hamster as a character might be somewhat creative, but who wants that?

good post, you clearly enjoy the game a lot. my point of view may be too narrow, since overwatch just didn't turn out to be the game i was looking forward to when i bought it on release.
i understand that a lot of people enjoy the constant stream of new characters/mechanics, personally i was expecting something, let's more 'stable' and less focused on prolonging fights until ults are ready or whatever. i always liked the concept of rein's and winston's shields and gameplay. the former being great to keep your team together and the latter to support flanking classes. i just feel that i would have enjoyed the game a lot more if they kept the damage blocks to a minimum or at least spend more time integrating the character additions in a way that didn't increase the time to kill. basically more 'amplification matrix' and 'less immortality field'.

He can only set 1 shield in front of him, you hold the key and release it to stop the shield from advancing, his rock projectile slows time in front of him during the windup, meaning if enemy shoots bullets at you while you start using the rock, you move to the side and the bullets fly past you, one abilty sucks all bullets and shit to this black hole and shoots accumulated damage back in close range, his ult throws enemies to the air, amplifying the damage they take and throws them to the ground during the end of the ability, nobody knows of his passives but seems like he gains HP as shields when he denies or deals damage or something

overwatch was incredible amounts of fun during its initial 30 days after launch, everything was new, everyone was learning the game, heroes were fun to play and the game was incredibly polished, but eventually the game's problems started to glaring stronger and things started to stagnate rapidly and each passing update did nothing to improve that
When the game is not balanced, meta seeps in, and meta ruins the game.
Paladins has a good balance in a way that you can literally pick any hero in the game and you won't be at too much of a disadvantage against the enemy team. The problem with paladins is that its jank to the max, you get easily stuck in terrain, weapons lack feedback, teams are rarely coordinated even in ranked play and it's just a clusterfuck.
Still a fun game, overwatch has pretty much lost its fun, but it's not a bad game.

At least his design is (if only somewhat) better than Baptiste's. I feel like OW is kind of forgetting something in their character designs. Their designs should look like the characters are meant to do something, and the design should communicate that thing to the player. What does Baptiste do? What does Sigma do? Their designs don't tell us anything. It's like their kitbashing random sci-fi parts to random humanoid models at this point. Compare these two to any of the original cast.
They kinda fail to add anything to the game that "felt like it was missing" and belonged in the game after all. Moira and Baptiste, for example kinda dunk on some of the other supports. I wonder what Zenyatta's place is in the game now?

Also its certainly not as cliche as an orange prisoner uniform. Hell even then, every overwatch character is a cliche anyway and that isn't bad, you look at most of them and you can usually already see what their role, background, influence or maybe personality is. Thats the good thing about cliches. Look at Mercy and its clear that she is a friendly healer, look at Reinhardt and you can see that he is a knightly tank, now look at Sigma, and what does he look like? Does he look like an tragically, insane gravity based scientist? Not really.
