Oh man, finished Umineko on the weekend after marathoning from episode 1 all the way to the end. What a fucking ride.
I'm also going to admit that I did not understand what the whole thing was about 'till like episode seven. I just thought it was about how Beatrice used magic and Battler had to somehow rationalize how it could've been done without it to "win the game".
Took me like three episodes to get why Beatrice doesn't just go "Magic is real" in red in the first place.
Feeling like an absolute brainlet, but I blame reading them all in one go and not having the time to chew about what I've actually just read.

And to add to that - having read like one or two mystery novels I was woefully underprepared for the whole thing, people really should recommend that you read some mystery stuff before going in, I feel like I could've gotten a lot more out of it had I read twenty or so closed-room situations before.
Overall I'd say that it's real fucking brilliant and the only critique I have is that the split personality shit is fucking bullshit and threw me off simply because I refused to believe it 'till the last second.

I think they represent people who either misunderstood and/or rejected central parts of the story such as the games being a way for Beato to confess her sins.
They also represent the theorycrafters around the incident that drove Ange into depression and caused her to lose trust in her family
One interesting thing in the manga is that Beato, being the part of Yasu that holds her feelings for Battler, meeting Ange is one of the things that gives her the chance to hope and live. So in many ways, it's Battler's love that keeps her going

Higurashi gave me an entirely different perspective on Bernkastel and her role in Umineko. Especially after you read the Letter From Bernkastel in tsubasa. My personal theory is that she really doesn't want to be a villain in this story and is searching for a miracle even now, but it would have to be one that leaves Featherine entertained or else she wouldn't recognize it.
