Sometimes its good to grow up as a poorfag. Saves the good stuff for later when you'll really appreciate it.
it sucks when you get past that stage though.
I don't, everything in the market is shit.
i read
then i repay an old favorite for the 11th time
I don't ask anons on the internet and i try games myself instead of reading a test or watching a playthrough.
How the fuck did you do before internet ? You bought games and tried them. Now you can even download them without paying if you want. You just make zero efforts and hope that someone will feed you a good game
I look at promotional material and decide whether it looks like something I'd be interested in. Doesn't cost anything to try it for a bit.
By screenshots.
those were different times user. i wish i could be a kid again and just go to the local store and get a cool looking cartrige and be happy with it.
isn't that really skewed?
i need more than just that usually but i did find some cool games from pics anons posted.
>isn't that really skewed?
Not when you understand how to do it. Basically you need to constantly ask yourself "why are they showing me this?" when looking at such things. Are they trying to railroad your attention? Are they highlighting something important for you or something you don't care about, and why are they highlighting that specific thing? People say you can't judge the book by its cover, but you certainly can judge it by the creative decisions that made that cover.
i don't trust marketing teams to know their stuff but i guess that might be worth a shot.
>i'm tired of replaying my old favorites for the 10th time.
I'm not
Just give up, all games are bad now. This place doesn't even talk about games anymore, that's how fucking bad it's gotten.
find old classic
see if there is a sequel
if it looks fun play it
pirate everything before you buy so you dont hesitate on getting it because you'd rather save your money
I play IWBTG fangames so I never run out of games to play because there are thousands of them and while most are shit there are a lot of good ones too
Try these
i already do this.
i played most of these but i don't have ps4 so i can't play stuff like bloodborne.
>when you had more fun on Yea Forums shitposting in WHIIIIIIIIRRRR spam threads and spewing random bullshit about consoles you dont really care about then actually playing games
Jannies took all the fun away. GIVE IT BACK IT WAS OURS.
>i'm tired of replaying my old favorites for the 10th time.
The question is: are you replaying them because you feel like current industry doesn't have the standards of production like those, or is it because they're your comfort zone? If it's first, then go into any "games only you played" thread and you'll find lots of games with similar level of passion and effort put into them as your old favorites, full of interesting unconventional designs and mechanics. If it's latter then you need to change your attitude on the whole: force yourself to play absolutely anything, go to a tracker and download first game you haven't played, make it a habit and you'll break the mold eventually.
Browse couple of gameing mags that aren't terrible (mostly local ones in my country) to see if something catches my interest.
If I crave a particular genre, I usually throw "genre and year" into Youtube, there are usually entire channels that have nothing but list of upcoming or recent titles of particular genre listed with gameplay footage.
Sometimes just google genre or "game like -something I enjoyed-" and see what it spits out.
Do steam exploration and recommendation cues.
Browse Gog or Steam absentmindly or try various tags out of curiosity.
Seriously, it's not that hard. You have fucking internet connection and we live in an era that is flooded with games of all possible genres. It's almost impossible not to find something interesting if you invest ten to fifteen minutes to googling.
i lurk collage threads and if someone has 3+ of my favourites i pirate the others
What's really sad it there's actual contrarians on this board that will shitpsot all day because they're jobless neets. THey will take whatever position will get them more (You)s as some sort of sustenence. Now this wouldn't be a problem if this board actually talked about videogames, but it doesn't. S othese people are taking pioitions like
>The moderation is in a good place
>fuck god
>Fuck religious people
>trannies are good
Things normal people wouldn't even think of but ultimately the bottom line of Yea Forums when this place has died. Hell there's been multiple fuck christian threads today for no reason.
Is this bait supposed to be subtle?
i just come back to them since i can't seem to find anything new (by new i mean stuff that i haven't played yet)
>how4chantakesapicture.jpeg
Also shit taste, itt seems like you're just buying everything that's coming out for the sakes of it
i've tried all of those but the first to not much avail.
That it bullshit. There are thousands of games you've never even heard of, let alone played.
yeah. that doesn't mean i'd want to play them all.
The fact that you think that's bait means you're the reason this place died.
Maybe there is something wrong with your criteria and expectations to begin with, then.
i just want something fun. i do find some cool games occasionally but it's far from common
Ever considered just going outside of your comfort zone?
People like you should be forcefully sterilized, OP. What an obnoxious cunt.
>going outside of your comfort zone
Not him but for me this means playing platformers and that's not okay with me at all. Enjoy your indiegames and offputting japanese trash.
Then why did you make the thread, faggot?
>No man's sky
No, that fag just wants to be a kid again.
Crackwatch on reddit
you mean like trying genres i dislike? i've tried that before but it was extremely boring.
Here is a good test of where the problem lies:
Have you played Factorio?
Have you played Kenshi?
Have you played Dusk?
Have you played Barotrauma?
Have you played Rimworld?
Have you played Pathologic 2?
>all low budget indiegames
I sleep
yes, liked it a good bit
no
no
yes but it got boring after 20 or so hours
no
And every single one absolutely briliant, that is the point.
You may not be a lost cause after all. Just keep searching.
You are literally the reason this site sucks, fuck off. Wojak consolewar spammers are literal bottom of the barrel braindead children, why are you like this
This site has shat on religions faggots since forever. It only started turning around since atheists are even easier to piss off. Don't for a moment think that religion is some sacred cow that normal people wouldn't dare insult.
that's the plan. i did find some new avenues of searching so that might help. I've actually wanted to play pathologic 2 but it runs very poorly on my pc for some reason despite it being able to run it in theory.
With Pathologic 2, the only advice I can give is test it running past the very intro. The first 20 minutes of the game (the infected city you have to make your way trough at the very beginning) was the only part of the game that gave me bad performance, the game ran more-or-less solid 60 past that.
Download, play and delete a bunch of games until you find a couple that you end up beating
huh that's curious. i'll try that.
I don't buy early access games that never make it out of beta. Maybe it's you who has the poor standards.
Thanks for letting everybody know you're autistic.
Only two of the games in EA is Barotrauma and Factorio, with the later being notoriously know to be an insanely feature-comple and polished game already. What exactly you are talking about?
>muh magical sky grampa
pretty much every single game I've played in the past decade I've discovered here, or through games discovered here
as garbage as Yea Forums is, at least I get vidya out of it
They were all early access crowdfunded games you tard. I don't buy unfinished games.
what kinds of threads should i be on the look out for?
I'm not religious, you're a loser.
Well, you are proving my point, though you are not OP. You have not passed the test. The problem is in you. If you ever bitch about not having things to play: keep in mind. It's 100% your own fault.
And you're a niggerfaggot.
whatever looks interesting to you
screenshot, webm and steam sale threads are always good
The problem is I don't buy alpha games? You're pathetic, how old are you to still be buying early access games?
I use that steam recommender thing. It's given me some actually really great titles since I knew what age/popularity levels to set it to. Most recent game I bought I've put in almost 30 hours and have absolutely no plans to put it down any time soon.
The problem is that you make up absolutely bullshit excuses why NOT to try some good games than actually, you know, try them. Like most people around here, you seem to value bitching more than games. Which is all kinds of sad on it's own merrits.
But it's well known by individuals of 90+ IQ that Early Access games never get finished. You have no principles and you think that makes you better than other people.
got it, thanks
i haven't had much luck with that but i haven't fiddled with any settings
Do you... seriously not realize how pathetic this is? Or is this what passess for "trolling" these days around this board?
I just wish we had standards again, you see it time and time again, major franchise turned into CARDGAME or something similar.
I just want to sit down and enjoy a nice game, without it trying to beg me for money 10 minutes later.
Being principled and believing in practiced consumerism isn't "pathetic". It's the way things should be. People like you who gobble down unfinished products are the reason this industry is dying.
>i haven't had much luck with that but i haven't fiddled with any settings
Please give it ago. When I first saw what the options were, I immediately knew to put popularity to 3/4 towards niche because I'm definitely a hipster when it comes down to it. I set the genres I wanted to see and changed the age for each genre so I could see everything there was. I even chose not exactly interesting genres just to explore. I thought they did an amazing job with it but not everyone thinks so because "it's not 100% accurate".
type out an actual backlog instead of keeping mental notes of stuff you want to play. trust me this shit helps. the moment I find myself staring blankly at my PC in boredom I just pick something at random from the list.
"being principled" if your principle is not "It's the game that matters" is actually exactly what was killing the fucking industry, until it got a lot better recently. You are on a level of a person who buys all games from one publishers and never from another because it's some kind of "principle".
You are an idiot. Are you the same person bitching about how all games are trash today?
i didn't even know they had options. but thanks, i'll try it out for sure
i don't have a backlog though. when i find a game i like i commit to it and stop looking for games.
>Not buying unfinished games is the problem
Whatever you have to tell yourself, enjoy your "retro" side scrollers and first person shooters
>i don't have a backlog though. when i find a game i like i commit to it and stop looking for games.
so you've played 100% of your steam library?
yeah. when i buy a game i play it right away. i don't really do the mass buying during sales thing.
idk how old you are but it hasnt been worth buying games in bulk since like 2011/2012. quality products would regularly be 85-90% off. (i remember buying 10 copies of bioshock for $1 each, constant 4 packs of games for $5-10, etc.) between that and the box of 300+ ps2 games my uncle gave me 10 years ago im set on older games to play until im dead.
seriously though unless you're completely blocking yourself out from the internet when you play a new game chances are you'll come across something that looks interesting. make a list my guy.
Dude, you do realize that your entire world has shrunk down to making incredibly lame and stupid excuses why you aren't playing fun games, right?
How does that NOT strike as having something very wrong with you?
There is only one principle that should ever matter to you: Is the game fun?
Most of the games I mention have a free demo, all have 2 hour try out policy, and all can be incredibly easily pirated. It would take less then ten minutes to see if they are good or not.
You have spend more time here making up bullshit excuses than that.
Get the game, try it out, see if it feels compelling, see if the price seems reasonable: if it does and you can afford it, buy it. If it does not, or you can't afford it, wait for a sale, get a job, or just continue playing the pirate copy. If you feel like being charitable, maybe tell others that it may be of interest to them. If you don't - screw it. Just play the damn thing and have some fucking fun.
Those are the only principles that should EVER matter to you.
How the fuck do you fuck that up?
>fun games
That's your opinion. I for one grew out of platformers and city builders about 15 years ago. Couple that with knowing that Early Access is just an excuse to sell people an alpha game at full price and you get a no can do from me.

and random games on piratebay
Get a PC, Nigger
>when I was younger I could buy pretty much any game and enjoy it for days to months
>buy a game today and can only play it at most for a couple of hours
None of those games is either a platformer or a city-builder. Also... city builders are not something you grow out of, it's something you grow into. Not for spastic little children.
Again: you somehow managed to screw up the single most basic principle of "games are here to have fun with".
That is such an absolutely amazing cock-up that it is kinda hard to put into words. What kind of fuck-up does it take to break a person like this?
it really was a simpler time
>didn't grow up with sim city
Zoom zoom
I actually did, with the very first one no less, but that is very much besides the point. Is this really the best you can come up with?
What do you mean? You're the one bragging about playing the same games for 30 years. I don't need to come up with anything.
Maybe you could come up with something that actually explains why you don't play games. You know, the whole fucking point of your participation in this thread?
By not having a narrow range of taste in games. I can't imagine ever finishing all the games I'm interested in playing in my lifetime.
Because there aren't any good ones? Unlike you I can't play the same thing for 30 years. If they're not putting out anything new and interesting there's no reason to bite. I'll try new things for sure but I'n not going to play something that's done to death for decades and pretend like it's interesting.
I went back to watching anime and reading again. Vidya sucks too much ass today, fuck this.
>Because there aren't any good ones?
He says, after spending two hours explaining why he isn't going to play any of the list of very unique titles for reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with gameplay...
Factorio, Pathologic 2 and Kenshi are pretty much unlike any games that came out before them.
The only comparable games to Rimworld and Barotrauma are DF and SS13, a games I'm willing to put big money you haven't played before, and each offers pretty new shit on top of that.
Literally the only game from the list that follows a previously well established formula is Dusk, but in a genre that was basically completely dead for what - fifteen years?
This is even worse than you previous excuse, dude. You really need to step up your game.
Factorio's just a single player RTS though.
No.
Are you retarded?
>any title any system
>watch fred/bill/joes full playthrough no commentary for 5 minutes jumping around the video a bit
>download the game if it looks good
>Build factories
>get resources
>fight off bugs
Looks like a single player rts to me
Again: are you clinically diagnosed with some kind of cognitive defect?
It's a genre of it's own. It has elements of an RTS - base building and resource management, but no unit control, no symetrical opposition. It has elements of tower defense (reliance on static defenses namely). But it has also elements of survival game (crafting, day/night cycles, randomized worlds), puzzle games (belt management), and even transport tycoon (train-signaling is lifted straight out of TTD, for an instance). It even has elements of those strange Zachatronic games about coding and creating your own logic networks, if you are interested (it's entirely optional).
Above all that however, it's a completely unique type of game. It's own genre.
