These games are criminally underrated

Almia>Ranger>Signs objectively.

And yeah its absolutely crazy how good gen3/4 spinoffs were compared to pretty much any mainline game

Holy fucking based

All those choices were right

Why did they stop putting out so many spinoffs after Gen 4?

Mystery dungeon is still around even if its gone way downhill. Other than that I have no idea, maybe japs didnt like spinoffs? They do have subhuman taste

Shadows is good but 1 is a tech demo, not a game.

Mobile games make more with less work.

I never played mystery dungeon games, where should I start/try?

Blue Rescue Team is peak soul
Explorers of Sky is peak gameplay
ignore everything else. Super shills are all braindamaged

>start playing Rangers for the first time after people keep telling me to
>open up game
>roaming Pokémon with personalities appear right away
What the actual fuck? Why is literally ever game made by someone other than Game Freak so full of charm?

Alright, thank you for the tip

game freak are incompetent hacks who actively dislike the franchise. they continue to make the games because it's easy money, but they don't get any joy out of it.

pokemon players have 0 standards so gameshit doesnt need to improve

just play explorers of sky, it's the best one
after that you can try rescue team (either), and if you still want more play super

>Mystery dungeon is still around even if its gone way downhill

Got better and better, DWARFING the mainline games in every possible category. Story, gameplay, music, characters, you name it. Ended in perfection, paying tribute to each previous iteration while recognizing it was time to move on to something else in a shockingly mature move.

how's red rescue team vs blue rescue team?

I just wanna have some slow paced pokemon to play on my phone

PMD peaked at Explorers of Sky.
GTI had a decent story but everything else was a regression. Super had really shitty writing and hit or miss gameplay mechanics, but was a good sendoff if nothing else.

They're the same game on different platforms.

game is functionally the same, a couple minor version differences that can be circumvented with wondermail generation if youre going to collect every pokemon,

I prefer blue because having the splitscreen for the map is really nice.

Explorers had issues too, but its strengths carried it much like the other two. The areas that were lacking saw constant improvement.

What problems with Explorers did you feel were addressed with the later sequels?

Braindead gameplay for an MD game and insanely exploitable bosses - Fixed in Super

Very low quality music due to the DS soundchip and some starters/partners being absolute garbage - fixed in GTI

Explorers was good but no friend areas and the addition of gender flags triggered the fuck out of me in terms of recruitment. I also felt like the Rescue Team story connected you and your partner a lot more tightly than explorers did. Oh, and everything related to Croagunk in Explorers can fuck right off. The 99 floor dungeons, especially zero island, were all substantially worse than Rescue team's and the super delayed evolution wasn't great either, should have let you evolve once after Dialga and fully evolve after Palkia imo.

That said, explorers story as a whole was better. The post game Palkia and Darkrai stuff was superior to Spinda's retarded adventure.

>hands you a salamance
>this fixes braindead gameplay and exploitation
lmao
If youre going to say "just dont use it" the same is applicable to reviver seed spam

Super's gameplay wasn't that much better desu. The dungeons were much shorter and smaller, the connection orb system wasn't as rewarding also IQs.
Emeras were cool though.

Red/Blue had some low quality music but Explorers was perfectly crisp. I also feel Rescue Team and Explorers had the best compositions, Super feels like the more complex orchestrations drown out the heart of some of the music. Love the remixes of the classic tunes though.

> I also felt like the Rescue Team story connected you and your partner a lot more tightly than explorers did.
agree with this
>That said, explorers story as a whole was better. The post game Palkia and Darkrai stuff was superior to Spinda's retarded adventure.
disagree with this. the palkia darkrai stuff is a bit thin, it was unnecessary and didn't explore its ideas as much as it could have. On the other hand, Gengar's postgame story in rescue team tied directly in with the rest of the story and had a solid emotional resolution of its own.

I didn't say it was harder. It was more complex thanks to those emrita you find and the ability to hire guest members. Plus Salamance, as you mentioned, makes for a great challenge early on if you want to test your mettle.

Also don't cheese the game if you're just going to complain about how much it sucked after you cheesed it. That's like throwing an X-seed at primal dialga. Have some self-control.

IQs are a drug. It feels so good but waaaay too much time and effort was necessary to get anywhere.

>blue had some low quality music
wrong

Anyway, gengar stuff was really good but was only like 1 small dungeon iirc? The other stuff with Mewtwo and Lugia were just drawn out.

>dont cheese the game if youre just going to complain
don't say that the game fixed exploitable bosses if there is still cheese.

But you can't bring guest members for the hardest bosses. All you're really doing is making the least difficult parts less difficult.

Red suffered from muffled GBA audio, but Blue Rescue Team seemed to be missing some effects in certain tracks and overall had weaker bass & percussion.
It's most obvious in Great Canyon, although the vibrato effect there was kinda obnoxious.

Gengar's stuff was itself pretty short, but also nicely concludes what was set up during the main game. Darkrai's arc was a bit longer but also didn't feel nearly as necessary, had a more forced setup, and didn't have as rewarding a payoff.

pokemon spin offs have always been better then the mainline games

Also a reminder that you could gunk trap your friend ribbon then actually kill yourself
