I don't necessarily mind characters who aren't realistic at all and are basically tropes. In other stuff, the "Hehe I am le epic hacker gamer oh hell yeah high score :3" schtick doesn't bother me TOO much. Problem is, the game didn't really start out like that. The first arc has much more grounded characters and interactions, it was quite refreshing for a series like this. (keep in mind it was still super anime but something about the pacing and way thing the characters reacted to events and each other was really satisfying.) I think that's why a lot of people say they love the first dungeon but after that, it just gets worse and worse. Everything after Makoto is introduced is a total cartoon, which is okay, but disappointing after the first arc.
