If that was Kojima's mindset then explain the hospital sequence, it was far less of a pure gameplay experience than any other MGS opening. In MGS1 the first thing you do is try to evade some guards and make your way to the elevator, you're immediately thrown into actual stealth gameplay, while with MGSV it takes a good while of holding forward while Snake crawls and stumbles around before you can actually do anything interesting. And then they make you do it again for the final level, complete with the fucking tutorial prompts and everything, just this time with a new cutscene at the end, no final boss or anything like the other games had. The rest of the game is full of time wasting as well, in the other MGS games if you skip the cutscenes and codecs you're sneaking past guards and fighting bosses from beginning to end, in 5 you can't skip all the waiting in the helicopter while you watch the credits again and running around a barren desert in between the parts where the actual gameplay happens.
