Hey everyone! Summer is upon us, and the Summer Collab is here! The chosen theme was characters at the the Public Pool! Jacinth is working on background.
To keep it interesting, instead of one group shot at the pool, he's doing different pictures in a Summer Scrapbook, to show off different scenes. He's already worked out a few ideas, but please include suggestions!
Any specific character interactions are up to the artists, but if you draw your character(s) a certain way and want them in the water or in a certain scene when things are more concrete, please specify in your submission. Jacinth is more than willing to help as well; if you draw your character sitting but don't want to a draw a chair, he'll place them in a chair or raft upon request, for example - but feel free to add your own props! It's not possible. I recommend getting a plugin to circumvent this, I personally use Linkify Plus Plus with GreaseMonkey so all URL links that are plain text automatically turn into actual links, I recommend it.

Protip: Drawing is hard, even for people who are good at it. If you're requesting a single character you're much more likely to get someone interested but if you want a whole thing with a background, multiple characters, crazy outfits, etc. then yeah nah. The increased detail comes with a big increase in criticism, as people can better articulate your shortcomings. >Month 6 to Month 12: Finally above the "Random Page on DeviantArt" level of quality and it can almost be called mediocre. Started accumulating a following. alongside trolls. It's sometimes hard to know what criticism is coming from artists with experience, or sour grapes faggots. >Year 1 to Year 2: Found some other artist friends, joined a few of those super secret discords you've been hearing about. Art is much better than it used to be, but drawing is still difficult and my pieces are much more detailed now. I still need feedback, so I post WIPs in my friend's discords, or my own, before posting them publicly.
Then I'm here now. Basically, your art has mistakes and just about any asshole can redline your work even if their skill is below yours. What's important is you establish some confidence in what your current ability level is and are constantly look toward the next thing you struggle with. A METRIC SHIT TON of people are going to hurl insults your way over the years, and 90% of them are anonymous sour grapes artists who hate you. Don't let their words control you, just draw what you want.

It's because of constant drawing and already being familiar with shapes and quick strokes (it impacts speed as well if you're dependent on things such as Stabilizers). If you're constantly on and off, you'll always be at a moderate pace. It's the same as me.
I honestly far prefer to take my time, as it's far easier to make mistakes on a haste. You'll overlook things, fail to bring things from a reference into fruition in a main drawing. Unless you really know what you're doing, speed drawing isn't exactly something to brag about either if all you're getting is that feeling of pressure of time and not even being able to relax while drawing. Having drawn several pieces at once due to multiple requests made me feel like that once. Once I calmed myself down, I felt like I was doing far less mistakes when I'd do them slowly.
Drawing isn't a race, it should be a hobby or something either for you or someone else (if by your own will).

It all depends on the artist and complaxity of the piece. What's most important is communication with the artist so you know how long you'll wait from the get go. Most artists don't ask for payment for months in advance. They wait to ask for money until it's your turn.

why does borv take comms anyway? he works super slow afaik someone who comm him said it took him 2 weeks to finish a $60 commission. that's like $120 a month. what can you buy with that money?
in my experience usually 1-2 weeks but that doesn't include queue time (if any) and sometimes it just takes longer, eg if the artist just works slow/has multiple commitments/something unexpected comes up/etc
and when delays happens the most important thing is communication it doesn't take a lot of time to send something like 'sorry I've been delayed because of X, here's what I have been able to do so far (if anything), I haven't forgotten about your commission'
which is a lot more reassuring and professional than just ignoring the problem and hoping they won't be mad

From what I've seen in comments when he opens comms, people would not mind higher prices as they are already ready to wait for months. $30/$60 are just estimate prices for single characters and I assume plenty people ask for more details or more characters at once in the same image. Backgrounds, two specific characters having sex, more complex outfits like for example most gacha games have, more complex poses, etc. can all influence the price. I also highly doubt he works on only one thing at once, he probably does 2-3 drawings so he doesn't get too bored. Last thing's last, he obviously doesn't just draw 24/7 and has other real life obligations to attend to.
