The first 4 installments while playing very similarly were individually well spaced, most across different consoles, and had good variety for a "more of the same" kind of treatment, particularly because there are a fuckton of levels. Also unlike what public opinion might have you believe with the "kiddie nintendo" meme, later stages of NSMB are actually pretty difficult. So if you're a fan of mario platformers you're well served if you just stick to 1 -> Wii -> 2 -> U -> Deluxe (or just deluxe if you didn't have a Wii U like most switch owners).

You're right about near everything except Gamefreak does make some non-Pokemon games. It's becoming clear they don't care about Pokemon and are hoping they can create some other licensed IP to bring in the cash outside of their Pokemon Company deal.

Nintendo is still at fault for enabling Gamefreak/TPC's laziness.

The entire brand has evolved on a focus on merchandising. Despite being the top grossing media franchise in the world, beating out Star Wars. They're complacent on mediocrity just because most of their profits come from merchandise, and it's become a sin to ask for the developers to put more money and effort into these games. They don't have to make a "good" game to sell 15 million and make more than 2 times that on merch.
The next year will have a new half assed game, and a new anime just to sell merch for these new pieces of media, and to keep the cycle going.
Nintendo doesn't give a flying shit as long as they keep turning up with profit. Nintendo owns a 3rd of the franchise, and there is speculation they own a majority of Creatures Inc too, the owner of another 3rd, so essentially Nintendo owns more of Pokemon than they let on,and much more than Gamefreak. The Pokemon Company doesn't own shit, they're just a manager. Nintendo is obviously in on the deal, they're still a company that prioritizes profit , so I wouldn't put too much faith in them.
Out of all of their franchises, Pokemon is the only one not to suffer or meander from mediocrity. You'd be fucking stupid not to take advantage of that.
