alternatively, learn to recognize when she's close to doing it and then flash her and run to a safe distance and just wait it out. flashing her automatically makes her nova if she's powered up enough.

The best way to handle luna's nova is to bring fortify and kill her before she does it three times

SnS feels like a total downgrade from the oil setup in GU, try Dual blades on her, she isn't too bad.

You can use crystal burst or scatternut to knock her out of the animation, canceling the attack. Same goes for Teo.

You're talking about number 79, right? It would fit nicely in a God Eater game.

You're better off running wind pressure resistance, it's what keeps you stunned during the mid explosion part of the attack.

no, you can use it from the start as long as you have iceborne. the devs even said it would help people get to master rank faster because the base game monsters weren't designed around clutch claw and stuff.

I've played since the first western MH and I'd say yes. World feels like the realisation of the cinematics from the first game. It's easier than XX but it's only a HR game, as far as it compared to other HR games go it's about on par with a couple of bull bustingly hard optional fights at the end that are so hard they're not even fun. So I guess if you're all about muh difficulty you can grind your dick against them to get your fill.

i have emulated it, the only difference is analog stick attacking and small monsters aggroing onto you as soon as you enter the zone and constantly respawning so you can't clear them out.

Just because 4th generation has the 45 degree turn and the attack shimmy doesn't make it old monhun. The amount of changes like vertical map design, emphasis on ledges breaking up the zone, mounting, endgame RNG for equipment instead of parts, and increasing the power of the hunter through mechanics rather than equipment forever changed the franchise.

4 and 4U have more in common with World than they do 2G.

Mainline and Frontier have a long history of just copying each other after the Hypnocatrice/Lavasioth debacle. If they liked the look of the other team’s monsters they’d just make their own version of them. Until Frontier was allowed to start taking Gen 3 and 4 monsters late into Frontier G at least.

No. You're just going to swap out all your gear for base monster armor from Iceborne then slowly climb up to the new endgame where you only wear parts from two sets and then ask Capcom to let every armor be layered armor so you can stop looking at clownsuits.

Armour probably not since High Rank armour didn’t need the Low Rank set to make thus Master Rank probably won’t require the High Rank armour to make, but you needed the Low Rank weapons to make High Rank weapons so chances are that you’ll need High Rank weapons to upgrade into Master Rank ones.

Just hunted Teo in World, why does he feel so...sloppy? I remember him like having cleaner telegraphs and better AI pattern maybe? Like his small damage hop jump thing that even Nergigante does is ridiculously fast, not comparable at all to the fast rush he does and almost not telegraphed at all. His supernova and tail whip was nerfed too, and but he's not too bad in World I guess. I only hate the new particles they used for him, 4U's is way better and doesn't clog the fps.

Start from FU and frustrate yourself, then work your way through P3, 3U, 4U then GU so you can experience the fixes that they did and the blunders that they committed. Witness the rise and fall of MH

Portable 3rd is a damn good entry into pre-World Monhun. If you don't feel like using PPSSPP or softmodding your PSP, play either 3U, 4U, or Freedom Unite. You can't really go wrong with any of these games. After you beat all three, THEN play GU. You'll appreciate GU more because it has tons of content from previous games that you'll go "Oh, I remember X from Y!".

GU's a great game, but by no means an entry point. GU will be the last game you play.

GU is just 4U but with World mantles as mechanics instead of items and more PSP asset dumps. Just do and watch 4th Gen pretty much bring everything crumbling down.

With whetstone it doesn't matter, you can just cancel and roll away when you see the monster face towards you. Shit is stupid and unnecessary.

With other items, your supply of items is pretty much unlimited so you lose next to nothing there too unless you are going for TA runs, but if you need to drink a potion in a TA attempt you already fucked up.

Overall the changes just make the game more reactionary and buttonmashy when it used to be about prediction. This is visible in weapons too, I pretty much button mashed my way through the game in insect glaive, rarely touching the ground. Yes, I know, this is the shitter way and deal bad DPS but it let me watch anime on another screen while clearing most of the content.

play Freedom Unite first, it's the final version of all the first and second generation games
there's zero reason to play the previous games other than to see how shit and clunky they were, FU is still clunky as fuck with bad hitboxes but it has a shitload of content in it.

When you're done with FU (either played through or gave up) play P3rd with an english patch
this is the first good step into modern monster hunter games and since it doesnt have as much content it's easier and quicker to play through than FU

I got back into the game 2 days ago and I have been trying to help a friend start out, but sadly this game does cooping the story missions a pain, you have to constantly wait for them to watch the cutscenes and only then you get to join into the quest, then it's off to the hub and waiting again. We ended up hunting an Anjanath in an expedition before he showed up in the main quest so he could get the armor early and to take a break from the boring main quest. I am at endgame already and only need one decoration so what I have been doing to make it more fun is to try new weapon I got from Kulve and practice them on the easy monsters of Low Rank as he levels up. I hope he doesn't get bored of the game though, the grind through the main story is pretty tiring. You just need to find a friend to play with!

Prior to MHW, for time attack players it saves time on applying buffs by skipping part of the animation. Felvine bombs get used in some games when available instead. For true slays of Frontier's musous in general, you've also only got ten minutes to do the job. If a player has a Raviente weapon, they can skip the applying (power) sword crystal animation because they're technically applied at the start of the animation.

What exactly IS a siege monster? Dalamadur is big, sure, but there's nothing really under siege(town/everstream) or the monster itself is under siege like Jhen or Golden Ludroth.

If it's just big elders, then Dalamadur, Gogmazios, and Goldbeard were pretty good fights. The only issue with Dalamadur is that all his gear needs like 5 fucking fanblades and you only get one per hunt. This forces you to do his quest so many times in a row which then gets pretty boring

the AT Kulve stuff is for elemental and status sets because they all have built in crit element/status. some regular kulve stuff is still better like the sleep hammer.

Yeah I was already aware, I loved playing online and I joined a lot of Jap Kulve runs when I was farming for my Lance because they were less likely to fail the siege in my experience. Sadly I never got the Ice CB before I got sick of Kulve. One of the only Kulve weapons I don't have.

Considering the direction MH is going, from the general consensus with newcomers, that is very likely.

They were really close with Kulve. Then Capcom decided to add the pursuit mechanics.

Portable 1 changed a bunch of shit from control scheme, to general hunt-reward loops. It made it a friendlier game all around.
It's part of the reason I've never understood exactly why people claim hardcore niche and shit about MonHun. The HR releases since Portable 2nd were designed for the casual Japanese audiences, and G releases made for the people looking to be challenged. That's why HR releases always sold better.

MonHun has better player mechanics and player-enemy interactions than Witcher 3. That's part of the reason you feel it's better.

You're missing the point. Humanoids can't work in Monster Hunter because there's not enough room to hit the monster without tripping your teammates. We need a humanoid big enough to make SotC blush for it to work in Monhun.

I didn't recommend it as a starting point primarily because 3rd Gen is still playable and starting with 4th Gen means having to unlearn all of the QOL that was added as part of it.

That said, 4U has the most coherent story of classic MH, so that could potentially be helpful for hooking a new player. I just don't see it as worth undercutting one's experience with 3rd gen games.

I hope that in iceborne they fix the sound effects for every weapon. EVERY WEAPON IN 4U HAD UNIQUE SOUNDEFFECTS.
Enduring Surrender's demon mode and swings were totally Asmr for me.

Iceborne actually has more actually new monsters than most G-Rank expansions, every G-Rank expansion so far except FU only had the flagship and final boss besides recolours. FU got Lavasioth and Hypnocatrice from Frontier as well as King Shakalaka and Vespoid Queen, and Iceborne gets Banbaro and Beotodus.

Well, by "actually new" I'm including returning monsters here, since they'd be new to World. But especially Seregios and Gore seem really unrealistic outside of DLC.

MH3 G Rank added 2 new monsters, 5 subspecies, 2 rare species, 1 variant, 4 returning monsters and added back in 3 monsters cut from Portable 3rd for a total of 17 added monsters. It did, however, remove 6 from Portable 3rd, so the net gain was only 11 added monsters.

MH4 G Rank added 2 new monsters, 8 subspecies, 2 variants and 11 returning monsters for a total of 23 added monsters.

MHX G Rank added 2 new monsters, 6 deviants and 14 returning monsters for a total of 22 added monsters.
