No, I miss this. It was far better when they weren't trying to be cool, before the GEEK IS CHIC LOL dark ages.
It existed in a transitional period between games being mostly unknowable until you're playing them (only having magazine screenshots, retail kiosks, and commercials to go by until it's running on a console/PC in front of you) and YouTube, wikis, and datamining deleting all mystery from the experience. Its niche was outgrown rapidly and it'll never happen again, and nor should it. I'm just glad it happened at all, it definitely elevated my appreciation for games as an impressionable 14 year old.

G4 circa 2003, fuck yes I miss it. God times with lots of great shows. Icons, Arena, Cinematech, Cheaters etc etc. It was great. I even enjoyed Ninja Warrior around 2007. But after that it started falling apart. It wasn't worth putting on the TV for anymore. Basically, it was killed by the internet, since by the end of the 00s, everyone was on broadband and smartphones were becoming a thing. No one had a reason to wait for TV programming to show them what's new and fun anymore. But I absolutely do miss that period around 2002-2004 where it was just amazing.

Also TechTV. I still say Megan Morrone was the cutest thing ever in her prime. Best G4TechTV girl of all time.

I do, but things have changed so much since then even if it was handled correctly it probably would've died out anyway thanks to Twitch and Youtube. Things were different back then.

I miss how non-PC they could be, making jokes about the spanish for RE4, black jokes for GTA or so on. X-Play was really fucking funny compared to literally anything we have today, and obviously none of it was meant to be really offensive. It was just easy going, and not overly professional. Nothing like it could ever exist anymore, everything is so formulaic.

The thing was, SPIKE was pretty big at the time and was doing similar stuff (COPS blocks). So they went to emulate SPIKE when their own stuff was faltering (ie., SPIKE had cops, so... they had COPS 2.0... and that was mildly successful so they did Campus PD).

Everything they did was chasing "hey that thing we did once worked and bumped up by 10%... let's do that 10,000 more times!" On top of that, top talent was gone. Olivia M, Kevin P, and Adam S were gone. They lost a lot of the personalities that kept users engaged. That said, they got new ones, but as talented as they were (Sara and Candace worked well together, as did Candace and Kevin or Sara and... well Kevin was great with anyone), they were coming in on the downward slide.

Nerd culture died because of the anime craze back in late 90s early 2000s. I use to go to comic and game conventions before that time and there was no females or sjws in sight. Then came anime and cosplay and women discovered they could dress up like hookers on days that aren't Halloween. That started the slow decent into female interests invading our pass times. I blame the Japanese mostly.
