Yes, but you can run through the game really quickly once you know what you are doing. It is also the most fun way to play the game, I've probably gone through it like 15 times.

Go through every ending and then look around once you're in the tutorial for the 4th time.
For the Commander/Hypnotic Gate ending, if you don't see the Carnophage at the gate before the assault on the Pillars, restart the chapter until he does or you'll have to do another playthrough in which he still might not show up anyway. You have to talk to him to be able to get Hypnotic Gate.

No worries then, it's normal to not understand what's going on after the first playthrough.
Depending on your actions on mars, you can get one of three endings:
Enter the portal in the catacombs and side with mentor.
Enter the portal in the catacombs and side with Rimanah.
Betray the Secreta and join the Feds.
For each of these endings, you get a unique spell: one of the three gate powers.
Once you've completed the game three times and have the three gates, a secret area opens in the caves at the start, you can't miss it.

Protip: if you play coop campaign, everyone on the server gets the gate spell (f they don't have it already).

Right-click while sprinting to block bullets. With high strength and speed, you can kill nearly anything, even Jian Masters with 1-3 swings of the Damocles.

Based on Deathwing, Streumon is beyond saving. How the fuck do you make a space marine terminator game where an assault cannon has recoil, rifles can damage your armor, and in a campaign where it's impossible to play with anything less than three characters there is no co-op and the AI is so useless that you need co-op? Streumon went from making a game with a 32-player co-op campaign to a game with no co-op campaign for no reason.

So, they go down in flames, and we can just hope for the one-in-a-million chance that someone else takes the reigns.

This all gets explained in the hidden 4th ending that you obtain after beating the game with all 3 different endings.

Taking all stories and adding them together:
Rimanah is "the one who must not be named"
He became obsessed with power, cybermancy and psy power. The crown jewel of the setting is "Necro-cybermancy", which involves ritualistic suicide and resurrection and weird alien artifacts to achieve maximum power.
He sent his wife into a forbidden cave to search about the artifact, and when she was found out, he had to kill her.
He killed his best friend who had a large archive which contained info about necro-cybermancy
He killed his mentor who stood in his way
He achieved necro-cybermancy, making him nearly invincible.
Then the "white wolf" showed up, a magical being who likes to absorb people into an infinite dream. Unlike everyone else, Rimanah was a match to that wolf, and they merged, falling into a weird metaphysical eternal dream loop (its the wolf who give you 2 out of the 3 gate powers)
Rimanah is stuck in the cycles of guilt for all he did.

A management game in which you manage a facility which contains monsters as well as extracting energy from it. Gameplay&looks are often said to be similar to fallout shelter bu not entirely same. The world/setting the game takes place in is a dystopia not so different from EYE. Also one of the departments(and it's assigned 'AI') in the facility has a very similar asthetic to EYE I guess.

There are multiple endings but you need to get all 3 to get the true ending
The Mentor's ending is the easiest, followed by the Federal ending and Riminah ending

Throw out your expectations of Deus Ex and System Shock. EYE has more in common with Serious Sam. That said, it depends on the difficulty, too. Don't play on Master or Ghost until you get level 50 or so, or you will ragequit.

So what's better, sultafum or hunting machine? Assuming that you have targeting&energy implant, fully loaded medkit, and decent stamina.

Sulfatum & Targeting System are god-tier. Hunting Machine is fine, but not good enough to take up far more slots than the Bear Killer when it basically serves the same purpose about as well. Take the Sulfatum and BK and you can have both niches with bearly any downside.

The S6000+Targeting System is an absolute monster as it’s spread gets reduced to a pinprick. Just point and shoot.
You couldn’t have picked two more different guns to compare, and they are re equally as good in different situations. Got a Deus Ex or Interceptor bearing down on you? Maybe a Jian/Culter Master? Take the Hunting Machine. It can drop them in one mag or less.
Facing a horde of trash mobs? Sweeping and clearing an area? The last word in Dakka? Look no further than the Sulfatum. With the Targeting System on, it becomes even more lethal.

Well, I was asking more along that which one is more flexible. As in applicable in more situations. I get that the 444. Round guns being the big game killer while sulfatum/S6000 is for trashing weaker ones, but I heavily lag in most maps to the point of missing moving targets half the time. Metastreumic swarms are a bane of my existance due to their synergy of large numbers+lag making my crosshairs teleport. The assault rifle question was due to this.

Not similar at all in gameplay, but you could give Rain World and Pathologic a try. Not exactly the same style, but their settings all have similarities and they have a similar vibe in my opinion.

Overall, the Sulfatum. It can deal with armored targets well enough as long as you shove it in their face. The 500-round mag greatly compensated for bad aim, as well. The Hunting Machine, while extremely powerful, is kind of a one-trick pony. I mostly run the S6000 against cops and looters and the Sulfatum against the Jian, Culters and Shock Troopers. I always carry the Hunting machine on Noctis, though.
Best load outs in my view:
General purpose:
S6000, 444 Bear Killer, Dual Swords
Against Meta-Streum:
Depezador/CAW Hammer, Damocles, BK13
Against Jian, Culters or Shock Troopers:
Sulfatum, 444 Bear Killer, Dual Swords
To survive Noctis:
Hunting Machine/Excidium, Black Crow/444 Bear Killer, Damocles
Honorable mention to the Spiculum Ovum. It’s great fun, but has difficulty justifying a slot.

Invest a few points into hacking because it's requiered on the last few levels. 60-70 Hacking should be enough. Check out the guide this guy posted , they're super helpful.

The level designer is literally insane and made levels so big the engine crashed when it tried to load them. They had to cut the levels bit by bit until Source could load them.

On one hand it's feels really overwhelming but it's also so fucking cool being in the city during the assassination misson with the cyberpunk art style and just looking around. The game feels like one big fever dream.
