Remind me of donkey Kong 64 and donk ong 64 bad

I don't remember why but I know I'm supposed to hate it.

I never played it but I do see myself picking it up if it ever goes on sale for $15>. I'm sure it's a fine enough game, just will feel dated.
I am upset that the sequel looks like they took all the criticism to heart and instead of improving upon the first they just turned it into a really safe generic platformer without the collectathon elements.

I liked it. I 99% agree with Mauler's review.

Same boring "quests" in different areas.

Because it was a soulless cashgrab facsimile of the original Banjo games.

Collectathons died for a reason. It was a novelty that got popular back then thanks to the new 3D technology, but very few people actually enjoy the "grocery checklist simulator" gameplay.
Some people like Hat in Time because it is stupid short, relies heavily on one-time gimmicks and many collectables are intentionally pointless so people can just pick the few ones they want to progress.

SJW devs removed a voice actor in the name of virtue signalling.

I liked it too, but Mauler kinda went in the opposite direction and gave it too much praise.

I liked it but recognise a fair few of its faults.
A good 7/10 for me.

A lot of the criticism was overblown or flat out made up. Some people complained about the dialogue (HURR WHY IS IT RANDOM NOISES) when that was exactly what it was in the original games, leading me to believe that people were just jumping on the bandwagon and hadn't actually played the original games at all.

I did. It was a very great game and I hope the 3D sequel will be even better.

On a side note, the 2D side game they're making looks great too.

>e-celeb gets his three "ehhs" of dialog removed from the game because of their opinions having a hint of racism.
>Internet drama devotees and hypocrites start calling for gamers to rise up
>game suddenly becomes "dogshit" and "Unplayable buggy mess" because gamers pretend they have ethics and principles.

What original games?

pretty sure he means the banjo kazooie titles.

i didn't not like it. I didn't like it either. Just a soulless 5/10 game with nothing particularly bad or good in it.

I agree with this completely. They claim to be the key creative minds behind DKC so why are they copying DKCR?

Why not just make another game if they wanna make a 2D platformer?

youtube.com/watch?v=ToMD5gG89os

the first minute of this video is literally what people got offended on jontron's behalf over

It tried too hard to be something it wasn't: Banjo-Kazooie

It was an attempt to relive the dream of 3D platformers of yesteryear instead of making a name of itself

An example of this is Shovel Knight

I never liked Banjo to begin with desu, not gonna shit talk it but to me it always felt more slow and floaty compared to Mario 64 or even Spyro, so a game that was pitched as not-Banjo didn't appeal to me.

>using him as some sort of scapegoat for the game being shit
Nope, that deflection won't work

Because it made me shit myself. The hole in the toilet can’t be fixed.

I don't like main characters and the overall style of the game.

A fucking chameleon and a bat.
The designs are really lame.

I played it at release, so I had to deal with the lag, unplayable mini games, unskippable cutscenes, and other bugs. All that, combined with collectibles randomly scattered about with no care or though pissed me off. I still had fun, but it could have been better. Post patches, games fine.

it was just ok, I expected better from what was basically old rare

awful unnecessarily large BORING level designs that include floating blocks, floating islands, and more floating cubes, terrible item placement that had 0 thought put into it. Donkey Kong 64 at least had a rhyme and a reason for item placement (line of bananas going down the path for example) yuka layle has items just all over everywhere and in places that don't make any sense or places you would never go to.

I did like it. But why the fuck did they add a fly-anywhere-any-time move in a fucking platformer, what were they thinking.

Were you playing on console or something, because I had no problems on the PC version.

>"YOU CAN'T HATE YOOKA-LAYLEE IF YOU LIKED BANJO-KAZOOIE. IT IS LITERALLY THE THIRD GAME."
>never played the series so I emulate the first two games
>it's worse than both
They couldn't even be bothered to make unique NPCs for each world. The first fucking game did that.

Giant empty levels and I don't know where to go. I GOT LOST IN THE LEVEL HUB SO MANY TIMES

Map design was terrible

its a bunch of floating islands and blocks. its like they got the level designer from bubsy 3d in on the kickstarter.

It's so empty it's hard to find what to hate.

Played it on PS4. Just felt right to play a 3D platformer on a console. My fault for playing a fucking Unity game on console though

Mahler was a shit composer.

Plus qt314 protag

Levels too big for their own good, just like what I didn't like about Banjo-Tooie.

>They claim to be the key creative minds behind DKC
They aren't. There are like 4-5 people who worked on art/background shit for DKC at Playtonic. In fact, it's the same thing as when they claimed the team behind Banjo was developing the game. It's really 2-3 artists plus Kirkhope. Everyone else is new or did shit during the 360 era.

I completed it through xbox game pass, enjoyed it throughout. It does have a couple of issues, mostly lack of polish. The first world is the most confusingly designed which probably put people off.

The biggest issue it had was pic related. A hat in time being so amazingly good really screwed them since it's the natural comparison.

Still a great game, and the sequel looks great, much more polished.

Tooie was dogshit

Tbf Kazooie was shit except for level 1, the pirate level, and freeze-ezy peak

Where is level 2 tho

Unity trash with a good composer doing shit work

Well, the PC and Switch versions were made by Playtonic themselves, whereas the PS4 and Xbone versions were outsourced to a different studio called Team17. It's well known that the ports on the PS4 and Xbone were bad.

No.

This guy has it right. Plus the slippery controls and bad level design plus the mine cart crap..terrible

>with a good composer doing shit work
I find it hilarious that Grant half-assed Yooka-Laylee while he went all out for Mario+Rabbids.

I just like it for the porn

>different studio called Team17
Get out newfag

What?

they're making a sequel??

You imply that team17 arenn't extremely wellknown

>calling a reviewer a composer of words
has anyone ever told you that you're a pretentious turnip?

yikes

>Huh I like Mauler well enough, he did something for YL?
>Check it out
>Three and a fucking half hours of "Critique" on Yooka Laylee

Real

holy shit jontron sounds awful. kinda glad they replaced it now

that sounds fucking awful - three times worse than sims blabbering and i hate sims blabbering

>Banjo talking to... himself

>I like Mauler well enough
>why is Long Man being Long

Not well enough, I take it. A shame he's stuck on movies forever now, his gaming stuff was good background listening.

it was like the worst parts of tooie and dk64 combined rather than a kazooie fangame.

in the end its exactly what we should have expected considering how long ago kazooie was in comparison, and it only being a handful of the old devs.

he's a d ead man walking

Yeah it looks incredibly uninspired imo.

I enjoyed his rants on things like TLJ and GoT. But who's got 3.5hrs to dedicate to YL? For a better game, sure... But come on.

It's mediocre, just like Banjo. The only difference is Yooka didn't have the presentation/production value to make people gloss over the trite gameplay like the rest of Rareware's brand of 3D "platformer".

now i'm actually glad destiny btfo jontron, that sounds like absolute dogshit
