VR

Why isn't VR bigger these days? It literally add a whole new level of interactivity with video games

But will it be the future or will people prefer to play something on a 2D screen?

VR is a meme gimmick fad that is already over: over.

Meh. I want to get in on it, but I just can't justify the cost, plain and simple. That and as far as I can tell there aren't many good games that even work with VR; normally people just talk about it as a porn-enhancing device. Also I worry that it'll damage my eyes because it's a screen like two inches away from your face.

VR turned out to be nothing like that gif in the end.

>VR was supposed to allow us to finally fuck our waifus
>it ended up just being a fad instead

>2D screen
VR headsets also use a "2D" screen, it's just 2 images side-by-side with some lenses on top.
If nvidia's 3d vision had support for VR headsets (just 3D not VR garbage shit) there would be a better reason to get one. As of right now all VR has are shitty tech demos and like 4-5 triple A games that you're forced to buy again because a "VR edition" totally justifies paying another $60.

what do you mean? it's exactly like that gif

That dog looks like Aubrey Plaza.

according to croteam it takes quite a lot of effort to properly port a game to VR

You mean Aubrey Plaza looks like that dog

Top right, top middle isn't even a thing, stop trying to trick people into spending 1000 dollars for a VR headset that'll just sit in the closet

No games and expensive

some games are better on 2d screen shit like yakuza and platformers.
But fps games have no excuse not to be vr. Making fps not vr game is like giving the game autoaim

Totally.
It warrants the game being re-sold at full price with no DLC and old save game compatibility.
I am not saying VR should be included for free in every game, but it sure as shit isn't that difficult to change how the camera and HUD works. Again I don't even care about fucking VR and throwing my arms around like a faggot, having compatibility with AMD/nvidia's 3d vision thingy would be enough for me to get one. But nah, instead you're forced to buy a third party driver that gets you VAC banned on games like L4D2, that otherwise work fine with 3d vision. It's a fucking joke.

cheaper than 2080 and you get way more for your money.

It hasn’t added any level of interactivity that wasn’t there with Wii waggle, and that’s one of the issues. It’s just a different way to look around and be immersed. Pretty shit actually.

how good is VR porn brehs? I'd consider it if it's amazing, but I've heard the shit is like 480p and there's not a lot on offer, dunno lads

Attached: 1548721168629.png (229x252, 26K)

it will be the future once it's better

Still no games

Not worth it if you have a 4k monitor.

>I UHHHH need my RTX 2080 so I UHHHHH can play da bideo gaymz at 1440p144hz like a pro gamur

it does lose its charm after a while, but the resolution isn't too bad if you pirate the highest quality videos. they keep pushing the resolution higher and higher. a few years ago the highest you could get was 1440p, but now they're up to 6k.

Just go on VRChat and try to fuck anything that moves, that's what the game is nowadays. Its pretty great if the models don't talk.

The headset is expensive and the games currently available are mostly subpar. Another problem is that the kind of games that work best for VR are niche like simulators be it based on real life ( driving sims ) or fictional settings ( Elite Dangerous ) with some exceptions.

>developers creatively bankrupt
I really wished someone made a game like Vrchat with the gameplay of Gmod. Take all those fancy maps people made in Vrchat and actually add the ability to things in them beyond walking around and ERPing like setting up businesses and roleplaying within a active city.

It's neat, but if all you want is porn then just get a GearVR.

>Vrchat with the gameplay of Gmod
This. It isn't even that hard to implement for fuck sakes, why is nobody doing this?

Attached: 1454996415148.jpg (500x332, 59K)

Because it wouldn't sell, the cold hard truth.
Autists who are into RP and building random shit will just keep playing gmod/second life and the few who own VR headsets and would buy that sorta game can't keep the developers afloat.

>mfw they started deleting negative reviews for VrChat
>top review is replaced by shilling
Absolute state of vr

>It literally add a whole new level of interactivity with video games
Not really. Not yet.
Regarding interactivity, current gen VR is basically a small step above motion controls (which were mainstream a decade ago, btw). It's a bit more precise and you have a few more buttons, but other than that there aren't any big advances.
An example of a decent change in video game interactivity is be the advent of analog controls (analog sticks and triggers). For VR, comparable interactivity advances would be increasing fidelity of motion controls (the knuckle controllers for example) or additional motion tracking (legs, maybe joints like your elbow and shoulder in addition to your hand).

But the heart of VR isn't interactivity. It's immersion.
The biggest leaps for the medium will be simulating senses, when you'll be able to feel a breeze on your face and the textures of fabrics. It's right in the name: virtual REALITY, and reality is less about what you can do but more about what you perceive.

That being said, although VR will inevitably be big, it won't replace traditional video games.

Attached: 1548128054936.png (500x566, 136K)

Isn't that pretty much what's happening in gmod rp servers though? You'd think that would be heaven for them.

>it won't replace traditional video games
That's not even a question. The question is "when will it replace traditional games". It sure as shit isn't this year or the following.

FUCK

You're right the entry cost is too much, I even said in my original post! And worst VRchat is so far in development that that even if you added the ability for people to lounge about most people would stick to Vrchat because that is where all popular kids hangout.

THIS FUCKING SUCKS!

Do the people in Gmod rp servers own or are willing to buy an expensive headset? I doubt it.

Kek they actually deleted the big negative reviews, vrchat devs are going on full life support aren't they?

it's very limited in what it can do well, it's inconvenient, 99% of the games suck.

only with vr can we have Equilibrium: The Game

Mutliple reasons
>wires
its not fun to deal with VR when you constantly have to deal with light houses and wires tripping you up.
>dedicated hardware space
light houses + goggles take up over half of your USBs and an HDMI slot. So either you have a dedicated computer or you have to set up every time you use it.
>games
the games are mostly gimmicks. a few of the FPS games are fun, the puzzle games are okay. But there's not enough games to justify buying a full console.
>quality
visual quality is still garbage. Its not as bad as non-VRfags meme, but it still sucks. You cannot play long distance games with VR. And it constantly feels fuzzy.
>having to stand up
when people are playing games they like to relax. standing up and moving around for an hour is okay periodically, but it goes from a relaxing hobby you can do when tired, to a hobby where you actually need to work.

If they could improve the visual quality to 4k, make it stand alone and wireless, I could see it becoming much more popular. But as it is now, its a subpar system that still relies heavily on your gaming computer set up for subpar games.

>But fps games have no excuse not to be vr.
vr limits mobility by a lot. joystick movement sucks major ass in vr and makes most people sick.

>what's PIMAX

useless

>The question is "when will it replace traditional games".
I mean, I guess I agree if you zoom out far enough, but I would bet we won't see that kind of change this century.
It boils down to "When will VR overall be more valuable than non-VR video games?" and there are a lot of elements that go into that.

Firstly, what's the cost of VR? Currently you need a powerful PC, the VR hardware itself, and a fair amount of physical space. And until something changes, the problem is only going to get worse as VR becomes more capable of higher fidelity simulations. VR won't be mainstream until they lower the cost somehow.

Secondly, and most importantly, would VR render traditional video games obsolete? Non-VR games are convenient (you don't need as much hardware) and don't require as much investment on the side of the player. We can see a similar dichotomy if you compare mobile and "core" games. Skyrim and The Witcher don't make gacha and Candy Crush obsolete. It's clear in the numbers. Different demographics.

There will always be demand for more convenient, less immersive games.

Attached: 1551573976398.jpg (670x670, 54K)

>I want 4-8k
>no wtf I don't want PIMAX
>you need a powerful PC, the VR hardware itself, and a fair amount of physical space
Actually no. A regular 1080p gaming PC is enough for VR at least if you're not aiming to play at high/ultra and 90hz. If you wanna play at high and 90+fps you're going to need to get a 1080 or better, which can be had for $300 used. Space isn't a problem either, you don't have to stand up for VR games. Any VR game that requires you to stand up isn't a good game.

I want all of those things, and PIMAX fails at the majority of them outside of the resolution.

>implying vr won't be implemented with nuralink

FUTURE IS NOW OLD MAN BRAINCHIPS ARE THE FUTURE OF VR

Attached: 1456877622217.png (247x248, 111K)

>playing VR CSGO
>Kill the enemy team
>Your brain gets fried because a 12 y/o got angry
no thanks.

I'm not really interested in where VR is now, I'm interested in where it's going.
When they start rolling out more immersive features (weight, textures, motion, etc) costs will inevitably rise until something fundamental changes.

>Any VR game that requires you to stand up isn't a good game.
Maybe currently but this can't remain true forever.

Attached: 1552763896371.jpg (1080x969, 275K)

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

Literally going full cyber punk if vr implemented brainchips into their game systems. You'd probably suspected to insta-death and mind control but on the other hand the porn would be pretty great.

It depends person to person. I can handle full joystick movement in Serious Sam just fine and it fucking rules.

you can train yourself out of this if you really want to.

>enemy team is cheating
>hacks into your brain chip and makes you say nono words
>get banned from game, money stolen
EPIC

>Any VR game that requires you to stand up isn't a good game.
The most fun ones like Pavlov require standing up, as does one of the most anticipated games Boneworks, you even own a VR HMD or do you just like to talk shit?

>It literally add a whole new level of interactivity with video games
not really, motion controls have been around for decades, all VR does is turn your monitor into a really uncomfortable hat.

>microtransactions get inserted into your brain
>you have to buy the breathing DLC

>light houses + goggles take up over half of your USBs
should've bought the vive, only takes one usb and one hdmi

is there any point in playing boneworks if you don't have the index knuckles?
they don't even sell them to my country so I'll never own a pair of knuckles

Attached: vr.png (1027x567, 185K)

Matrix when?

I mean, he isn't wrong.

This but unironically. VRChat is the most cringe game I've ever played.

I would seriously think about vr if there was a proper star wars flight game like rogue squadron or X-Wing/tie-fighter series, but from what I can tell there's only that one battlefront demo thing. What a wasted opportunity.

play elite dangerous instead. it's far better than anything EA could even imagine shitting out

>Be a game dev
>Make a game
>People enjoy it
>You're happy
>Weebs come in
>They chase away sane people with their debauchery
>This only incentives more weebs to crash in
>They are now your core playerbase
>Forced to contend with them

>Expensive entry price to just play a single Starwars game
>Flight games whether they're realistic or arcadey are niche
>Triple A devs aren't known for appealing to niche gamers
>Especially with one of the most popular IPs
>TFW you'll never get a VR X-Wing vs TIE fighter

VR is great for certain games, the problem is that those kinds games appeal to a small bunch.

>VR is great for certain games, the problem is that those kinds games appeal to a small bunch.
I'm surprised more simulators don't include VR

I always thought it was the attention whores and streamers that were the problem. When they started catering towards twitch the game went down the shitter.

which simulators don't include VR?

No games and devs go out of their way to fuck up those that are left.

Valve does not care, and indies wouldn't make it right.

You need something bundled with your headset for it to be a thing? You can use the fucking steam controller, Vive Wands even, they basically are Valve's retarded take at Steam Controller in VR.
Pretty sure some games support teledildonics. If not you can do exactly that in VRChat.

People would showoff in front of streamers with lewd avatars which only prompted more people to do it. Also MMD models can be nabbed from Deviantart and given a skeleton with ease and there are many of them to choose from.

Actual porn? Not worth shit.
3D porn like Koikatsu, Honey Select, VRChat etc. etc.? It's pretty good, but limited
Shit like Virt A Mate is basically a nightmare to fap to, but it's like Garry's Mod of porn.
Overall it's pretty great, Monster Girl Island demos are one of my better faps.

3d screens also exist. VR is actually bad for your eyes but normies won't care of course.
Their problem is merely they are too poor to afford it.

Melee games probably feel like shit with the lack of touch feedback.

I have an occulus but I never use it

We’re about 25 years away desu

>3d screens also exist.
not anymore lol
>VR is actually bad for your eyes
no, optics compensate for the short distance between eyes/screen

>hey man, can you think of all african countries starting with N
>Nig-
>brain gets fried for racism

They do unless they operate on memes like Gorn or you trick yourself into LARPing like in Blade and Sorcery.
Recoil compensation in Pavlov is a shitshow too, especially on guns like M249, but that's the way cookie crumbles.

The optics are static. The problem is IRL eyes have to adjust to distance constantly. VR they don't which trains them not to refocus. This causes issues if you play VR long and then need to drive for example.

Honesty that sounds comfy as fuck

>Too old to be playing fast paced action games
>But old enough to still enjoy immersive video games

anything worth picking up on this VR sale?
prices all still a little bit steep to me
