I'm not a fan of the building mechanic, but that's pretty much THE main mechanic of the game, so it doesn't have much that appeals to me. Some of the skins are nifty, though.

-Live events
-STW (although is VERY repetitious) is a nice time waster and you can earn V-bucks
-Simple yet good character customization

Battle Royale games reward you for avoiding as much of the fun gameplay as possible. Hiding in a bush for 20 minutes isn't fun but you end up placing way better if you do.

It works in a dissonance with the core concept it copied from PUBG. The game is supposed to be about adaptability, as players find different equipment and have to deal with randomness of the zone compression, but Fortnite homogenized the equipment, sped up its gameplay, and put building crutch in, making everything about the core mechanics pointless. It also built its community around cosmetics and their purchase, deliberately inconveniencing people that didn't buy any.

In BR (the only competitive mode) you gain no advantage from paid items and there is no loot boxes anyway.

In STW the paid Llama’s where you get characters are now see-through so you always know what you get. The rest of the llamas you can only get from getting in game items. Also all it takes is playing one event and you will have enough heroes to “beat the game” and it’s still a grind no matter what “OP hero” you have

Because those aren't the only options, and colorful quirky design goes agains the concept of shooting and murder. Brown'n'bloom shooters were hated for their boring generic settings and gunplay. I’m confused why everyone hates on the building when it’s the best and most distinctive feature of the game.

I watched someone play for a few rounds and it just looked pretty slow and boring, lots of stretches where they were running across open area with nobody around and what gunfights that did occur were small one on one affairs that were over far too quickly to be enjoyable. I kinda wish the PvE component were better because going out and collecting weapons, materials and NPCs to bring back to a homebase to build up and defend is my kinda gameplay loop.

Spontaneous building is cancer. Surrounding yourself in a fort in the middle of a fight trivializes a game that otherwise rewards aim & uses a solid physics system. Watching two people hide inside their skyscrapers taking potshots is the opposite of good game design; these sorts of shooters should promote offensive action, not defensive or reflexive action.

The game is densely packed with children, third-worlders and aimbots despite not being free. Moderation of the game is borderline nonexistent.

Battle Royale games are repetitive by their very nature, even if the developers have gone out of their way to try and keep things fresh (to keep making money.) If it included more varied game modes that weren't Battle Royale but used the same engine, accounts, etc. I would respect the game much more.

Fortnite is like one of the least predatory games when it comes to microtransactions, unironically.
Fortnite has a cash shop where you can purchase cosmetics straight-up. The main thing most people buy is the season pass, which gives enough in-game currency that you can buy the next pass without putting any more money into the game, effectively making it a one-time purchase unless you also buy shop skins. When you do buy something from the shop, you know exactly what you're getting and it provides no gameplay advantage.
Compare that to the games EA puts out. Madden, from what I've spoken to my little brother who solely plays that game and who has spend at least $200 in lootboxes in that game, has no guarantee that you're going to get anything you want, AND the players you get in those lootboxes have stats, meaning if you spend a fortune to get a perfect team you have a significant gameplay advantage over anyone who doesn't do that, so players are pressured into buying lootboxes just to stay competitive (and this is all on top of the game costing $60 and having yearly releases). It's disgusting and if I had a kid I'd much rather they play a game with Fortnite's system than something like Madden's.

i played one season
- the skill disparity per match is too wide. every game has a perfect spread of the shittiest of shitters and the most autismal of autists. there seems to be no kind of skill matching whatsoever despite how many people play the game
- winning always comes down to who can build faster and longer instead of who can shoot better. in any given fight you're testing who has more building materials
- jump height and speed is disproportionately high compared to land speed, makes you feel like you're moving way slower than you should be and makes fights feel frustrating
- building takes too much precedent. it's not fun for anyone when you can instantly build a tower after taking a tick of damage. if your wall gets destroyed you can instantly put up another one in its place before any shots get through, and this isn't even remedied by more than one person shooting at it
- building also has a higher skill ceiling than any kind of shooting that takes place. to that end, fortnite is more of an RTS than a Shooter. look up any kind of "crazy fortnite building montage" or something on youtube and you'll see what I mean
- hitboxes are too precise. I know this sounds like a meme but I swear it's true. The amount of times my shot has swooced in between someones legs, or grazed their nutsack maddening. in any other game these shots would hit

I could see why it's such a phenomenon to normalfags and literal children, but the game is not fun at all for me. that's half a lie though, since I did actually have fun with the weapons and vehicles when i wasn't being cucked by some sweaty tryhard buildautist maximus.
I believe that kids are mostly enraptured by it because of the "all of my friends are doing it" factor and i believe normalfags give it any time just because it's easy enough to play every so often and capitalizes on the common urge to indulge in "just one more game"

Another problem that comes with this build autism is that players complain about third parties all the time. Well sure, if you didn't alert the whole server of your presence and ended the fight quickly you wouldn't be swarmed you fucking idiot.

It's because when you engage with a "pro" they shit out a million buildings in a second, box you in, edit one of their walls while you're trying to escape and either shotgun you in the head or plant a trap to kill you. The only counterplay to this is to build an autismfort yourself and do it to them first. Epic has released quite a few attempted counters to this—guided missile launcher, remote explosives, planes, and ESPECIALLY the boom box—but "competitive" players whined and bitched endlessly until Epic removed it so their meta could stay intact. Players voted to unvault the drum gun, a good spray weapon that shredded buildings, and every single "pro" in the game shat their diaper and screeched at Epic, flooding all their social media and every mainstream forum that they need to VAULT IT THE VOTE WAS RIGGED EPIC YOU'RE KILLING YOUR GAME. Eventually Epic nerfed the drum gun multiple times to shut them up and it's now no better than any other SMG in the game, in a game where SMGs aren't very good weapons.

tl;dr: It's not that players hate building as a mechanic, but they hate what building has become and hate compfags in general.

Them not taking advantage of that install base to expand the IP, establish the PvE mode and make new maps is idiotic. They doomed themselves to being fotm because of the way they handled its success. During the Thanos event I got my chance to be Thanos stolen from me. The first infinity stone dropped nearby and I got to it first. Another guy was trying to get it, when this faggot on my team was shooting at me with his Chitauri grenade launcher. It wouldn't damage me, but it would reset the countdown for me to pick up the infinity stone, so the other guy got it. I immediately left the match, and wish I had reported them. I have and it's extremely easy to just hug the edge of the storm collecting loot and power ups for 20 minutes while killing the odd straggler. Once it gets down to the last 10-20 players you can comfortably just spend your time camping, hiding, or using construction to set up a snipers perch.

This right here is why I never gave Fortnite a chance. They lied and said Paragon would have a team still but they were moving some of them to Fortnite to help with the BR that became so popular, then they axed the whole thing. At least they refunded everyone's money they spent on cosmetics and shit but I'm still mad about it. Paragon had a fuckload of problems and balance issues, but it was the most fun I've had with a moba before and since. Then Heroes Of The Storm basically died as well. It seems like you have to play LoL or DotA2 or nothing at all.

You can. There's a shotgun in the game that can deal more than 200 damage (the maximum amount of health and armor you can have) in a single headshot. At the beginning of Season 9 they removed it and didn't bring it back for several months, and "pros" screamed that all skill in the game was dead. It's actually slightly less cancer now than it was before it got vaulted, not because of any nerf but because they added the Combat Shotgun, a shotgun variant which has a comparatively long range and not as much damage falloff at range, so someone trying to one-pump you can actually be dealt with if they aren't a full build-autist making cover every step of the way before they reach you. The game really needs more non-shotgun weapons that are viable though, drum gun was fantastic when it got unvaulted but then they nerfed it because it was too anti-meta for the "pros."

I hate building. I played a few games of it out of curiosity, and the game was pretty much who can build faster and higher. No worse feeling then sniping someone, then they build a wall and your done.
Also getting close to someone for a 1v1 and then they start building around them like a madman instead of fighting me. I don't think the game is shit, but building wasn't fun so I didn't like it.

Skill based matchmaking used to be in the game but the stream monsters cried constantly about it because it meant they couldn’t have super sick 24 kill games against casuals. Then they introduced ranked to try and fix this, but most stream monsters won’t play ranked for the above reason. So really the problem has never been solved and the game is bleeding players now because of it.

You’re wrong about the drum gun though. It was and is still one of the best close range weapons in the game and it never had anything to do with shredding buildings. It’s OP because you just hip fire at center mass and it melts the target in seconds. The only faster close range TTK is probably getting one pumped in the head.

I just don't really like multiplayer games with heavy grinds in them anymore: stopped playing Illyriad and TF2, didn't really like LoL, never bothered with WoW, etc etc. One day these online-focused games will shutdown and then I won't be able to play them outside of private servers, which will mean all the time put into them will go away. My issues with Fortnite aren't mainly the game's fault, just a matter of preference.

If you played the game, you would know it’s not that easy to do and that they don’t sit in the air long enough. Typically you break the build, they fall half way to the ground, deploy glider while being evasive, land, and rebuild. It’s actually garbage and gliders have needed to be removed for awhile to discourage big builds because there’s no risk for doing it.

Chests aren't static spawns user, they don't always spawn 100% of the time. Trying to say Fortnite isn't luck/loot dependent is a retarded Idea. Its entirely possible to drop onto a spot and not get a weapon. Its VERY possible to be put in a bad situation you cant win because you didn't get shields, more so when skill levels are close. Face it user, the game is loot dependent, even a scrub can get lucky with a pump headshot so long as they got a pump.

Building is a crutch that causes the skill floor to basically plummet into non-existence. Positioning doesn't matter because as soon as you take the first shot they'll sperg out and build a fuck you tower. There is no counter to building because all the autists cried and stamped their feet until they got removed.

I tried to play it on PS4 and it made the fan blow really really loud constantly. It does that for most games but in other games it slows down after a while. It never stopped in Fortnite, even in the menus. It was really hard to focus.

I stopped playing. I'm decent but I have no interest in grinding out edits to win games reliably. I want to have fun in the game.

For me it's the heavy RNG mechanic, since I have the worst luck in videogames I don't like games that rely heavily on that.

You are correct that people dont abuse these counters more but stuff like Stink Bombs really do nothing in the grand schemes given learning to build also teaches you how to move your positioning to avoid its weak damage ticks without opening yourself. Like mentioned, anything that can be seen as a direct counter to building is automatically received with the call to remove. Though a well placed Boombox could utterly negate a field and create a "Who has a better aim" situation

I think the main problem with Fortnite is that people got really really good at building and the gameplay devolved into battling for walls and trying to one-shot people with a shotgun.

Honestly at this point they should just remove all the Shotguns except the Combat given how versatile that one is in comparison to all others.
