When you have to do a 180 turn like in cortex castle or end of pinstripes airway, hop at the top of the hill leading up, let off acceleration, hold break and the direction you need to turn, It's a little tricky to nail at first but INCREDIBLY GOOD

and once you get really good, you can use a similar technique when going downhill around tight turns, air braking allows you to turn sharply without losing much or any reserves/speed

how do people keep the blue flame powerslide going so long? the sliding feels really weird to me for some reason, yet people blow through courses like they were being chased by a horny, nude hillary clinton

There is something so satisfying about your first successful U-Turn on Hot Air Skyway.

It's the easiest one to do, though. I still have trouble with the ones that require the fastest action, like Turbo Track.

In my honest opinion you're an easy meal if you go into online without beating the vast majority of Oxide's time trials. Just try to do perfect powerslides as much as you can and learn all the shortcuts

It’s easy once you get used to it. You just have to make sure you’re doing enough boosts to keep it. Depending on the track trying a different class might help as well. I prefer accel on Twilight Tour

I can usually get boosts with sliding on turns and jumps, but straightaways are where I can't quite get it

I'm not sure how to explain it to you, but if you turn into the jump and slide into the straight line, then you can slide on straights.

Or maybe you're aware of this and you're trying.

On straights you can hop in one direction, then drift in the opposite direction by hitting the drift button and direction when you land. Like how you drift from the starting line at the beginning of a race.

if you're consistent, you'll be able to catch up the moment they make a mistake
sometimes they won't make a mistake, and that's okay, that's all just part of playing a low-tier character in any game

it feels temperamental about how far the turn needs to be before actually starting a slide, sometimes a little nudge will do ya and others it's like take evasive action or it won't go
