Why aren't you playing a JRPG right now?
Why aren't you playing a JRPG right now?
I just finished one.
because Im having difficulties making the roms run through steam
Does dragon quest builders count?
Maybe later
Playing Tales of Vesperia. Still early in so I haven't seen exactly why it's considered the best of the series, but I am enjoying it.
I thought she was pregnant in the thumbnail
I'm playing Vesperia right now too user, where you at? I just unlocked Fatal Strike, I forgot that was a thing, I played the game on Xbox and just went chimp on my enemies, though it's feeling like a slog to me too, I can't wait to unlock higher level artes
I was just playing nocturne, about to sleep
I just had Rita join my party and got the overlimit ability. So still early in.
Considering buying this, it's quite cheap. Thoughts Yea Forums?
because I have sex
Have kids
Any decent ones on mobile? I recall squeenix rereleasing a bunch with vomit filters a few years back.
I began playing Atelier Lulua bit over a week ago, because I thought I could finish it before Three Houses came out. Now I'm fucked because I dont like it when games I want to play are piling up. The summer in general seems really busy for new games for me.
I'm playing granblue fantasy RIGHT NOW
Main plot's fairly standard, the little memories will make you weep like a little baby if you're even slightly sentimental, solid combat. An underrated gem that was wasted as a 360 exclusive.
I'm not. After 3 years I finally stopped. I can barely be bothered to even log in. No idea what caused it.
Sometimes you just get tired of stuff. I was the same way when m2 launched but I've been getting back into it lately
Can someone suggest some staple good ones (excluding Final Fantasy series)? I've played and enjoyed most FF games. Tried Persona didn't like the school setting, nor social linking, nor the shitty digimon system.
Is that a vita exclusive game? How did it get past sonys censorship board?
I just finished Bloodstained, which is J with some rpg elements. And I'll be moving on to valkyria chronicles 4 later on.
Playing it right now, I'm 5 hours in and it's solid so far
It was released in 2015. Multinationals hadn't gone full retard with modern feminism yet.
But I am
Tactics ogre : Luct.
Dragon quest
Etrian odyssey
Favorite game as a kid. Good stuff
Didn't they remove two scenes from the western releases? I think one of them was pinned down by a mushroom monster and had to suck his shroom or something
Intersting story, but way too much unnecessary drama and crying. Boring combat.
Am still playing The Last Remnant. "The Fallen" in Ancient Ruins raped me, I guess I have to grind more.
Also, if anyone knows, wtf causes weapon's leveling up? I thought it was just upgrade made by party members (because you can't upgrade their equipped weapons at stores), but I have Sword on Seven on Rush and it just got +1 near its name after one battle in Ancient Ruins. The hell?
No that doesn't go along with my narrative
Yes, 4 CGs were altered. But nowadays the game simply would not get localized. The sequel is much more ecchi than the original so there's no way it'd come out in the West today
1 was great , 2 was good
there're no more games and you can't convince me otherwise
Thanks, Tactics ogre looks sick.
I liked Chaos Rings 3 also by Square, it's like Persona in which you equip character cards to your party members and each card holds multiple skills, casting magic changes your character's element to that one, if I recall it also has something like the One More system where you get an extra turn if you exploit a weakness
It also has a small gacha element where you can draw for cards but don't let it put you off, it's been years since I've played it but I'm pretty sure it's not as bad as actual mobile gacha games, you also get golden tickets when logging in and you can exchange them for a VIP membership that gives you keys to open golden chests or some other nonsense, there's also a card fusion system also very similar to the SMT series
The game's story has multiple chapters you can download when you need them (1-3GB each) and also it has a battle arena mode that rotates challenges weekly
>I guess I have to grind more.
TLR punishes you for grinding, or something but recently I heard that was a misconception or some such, hope someone corrects me, that game is still a mystery today
Doom and Destiny/Advanced
That looks like shit.
Just got to this poison wolf boss in the hills with knock out flowers. The fuck is this sudden spike in difficulty?
Burnt out so I'm going to play some MH before I start up FF7.
I'm trying to find something that isn't a pokemon romhack while I go through Altair's wack-ass postgame.
>Have to find 38 rocks with no visual indicators scattered in houses in probably the largest single map in any one romhack
>Gotta grind my team to 70s after grinding them into mid 60s so I can fight the E4
>These crazy puzzles you have to do to get the fakemon trio
Yeah, something about BR (battle rank) affects difficulty in The Last Remnant. But my BR is not big at the moment, at least that's what I think (72), so grinding for few more BRs won't kill me. I hope.
Despite mostly using standard RPG Maker assets the games are actually alright. Devs made fun of almost every JRPG trope there is, characters are sympathetic, and there is a secret to uncover at like every location.
I did that yesterday, it's fucking crazy yeah, consider lowering the difficulty temporarily, you could use the flowers to your advantage if that idiot didn't target everyone else but you, if you're playing Yuri, try making a strategy telling everyone else to keep their distance with the boss and heal allies as needed (the default defend strategy doesn't seem to work that well), hopefully they will obey and not get destroyed by the boss, then set Rita's Fireball to one of your right stick shortcuts and spam Azure Edge to draw the boss' attention to you and use free movement to run back to the side of a flower, hopefully the boss will hit the flower, once it gets stunned order Rita to cast fireball while you spam Cerberus Strike, or if you want to speed things up, change between the defensive and full charge strategies as the boss changes targets
I told you before, I'm playing DQ8.
I'm like 40 hours into the game but that's the only time so far that I had real issues with fighting a boss. Rest of the game is quite easy, at least afterwards you can afford having max life bottles and heals.
I don't disagree
I played these so long ago that playing today it in Japanese is basically a whole new experience.
Kind of slow going since I am using the games to acquire further vocabulary after doing about 2-3 months worth of grinding fundamentals and some core vocabulary/grammar.
However, if you're dedicated, even if you have a job and a life, it's possible to really learn some Japanese from things you like.
I can't wait to see what it's like in a year when this would be, at best, trivial to me.
I'm 4 hours into KH2.
How many fucking English loanwords are in this lazy language omg
Got the .Hack GU games on Steam, so that's what I'm playing atm.
The problem with TLR is people don't understand it was made by the SaGa devs, so it is actually a SaGa game without the name. Maybe I'm wrong but if you keep grinding you will get to be outpowered more.
If you are playing on PC there is a mod to cap the enemies power on each zone, so they will lvl with you but to a point depending on the zone.
BR not only makes the enemies stronger but locks and unlocks somethings.
It's pretty fucking long the amount of hidden mechanics that game has. Like trying to know the class evolution and shit like that.
A fuck ass ton, not gonna lie. You should see the list of Energy/Psynergy, they literally don't use actual Japanese words for any of it.
ResetEra told me only shitlords play those and I don't want to get cancelled.
I’m playing through TWEWY’s postgame right now.
>If you are playing on PC there is a mod to cap the enemies power on each zone, so they will lvl with you but to a point depending on the zone.
Yes, but this kinda kills the whole point of the game.
I'm playing the Switch version, btw. I can't buy PC version now; it was pulled off the Steam.
>btw. I can't buy PC version now;
You can always pirate it.
Not like Squareshit is losing money on it.
Real talk: sexually attractive lolis need to stay in Japanese games, in Japanese language, released in Japan only.
And those games should be mostly 18+ PC games.
But I'm playing one right now
Is the queen ant something I'm supposed to kill right now or come back later? It looks like it has a ton of health and it shits out adds constantly who also make more adds. I probably can kill it if I try enough times but it looks like it'll take forever to kill and it's not hard for it to kill someone if it and the adds focus fire someone.
>sexually attractive lolis
?
>sexually attractive lolis
uhhhhhh
Yeah, I know, pointless clarification. Just "lolis" says the same thing.
based and cunnypilled
True. They were selling it for, what, 5 euros?
Speaking of SquareEnix and pirating... Left Alive is not cracked, right? I really want to see how bad that game is, but I have no intentions of buying it. 60 euros... for that?
'Cos they're mostly grindy, padded garbage with rubbish stories and stupid characters
>Left Alive is not cracked, right?
Nope, might be in future now that Total War Chink edition was cracked few weeks back.
He doesn't play JRPGs, but he knows that they are mostly grind, padded garbage with rubbish stories and stupid characters. Hm.
"...right now".
I've played them before enough times to know.
I just got into the y's series with origin cause final fantasy obviously dead at this point and these come out the fastest while still being good and fun.
I'm playing Pandora's Reflection on PSP and Replaying Mana Khemia 2 on PS2.
How many? 3?
>ys origin
>ps4 version
yikes
>PS4 game
>nigger
Why am I not surprised?
im playing and replaying several jrpgs currently.
Trying to get through the Pre Sequel because I hate myself and can't not finish a game unless I plan to never finish it.
Whenever I beat it I'm either gonna get comfy with Dragon Quest Builders 1 or start Kingdom Hearts III. Or Ys VII so I can play IV and VIII.
>game looks interesting
>turn based JRPG
Physical copy. Nice.
>game looks interesting
>turn based JRPG
>"The Fallen" in Ancient Ruins raped me, I guess I have to grind more.
No, at best you'll have to get better weapons, use better formations and pay attention to the how the battle is structurer.
The Fallen is a hard puzzle boss, at the end of each round he'll slap your shit with fixed AoE in a certain order, Blackout, Animalcule, Rain of Blades etc.
You have ten rounds to kill The Fallen, at the end of round 10 he'll use Apocalypse and overkill you no matter what (in the 360 version this was busted though and you could bypass it with a well timed Cachexia), to add more problems to it all, if you haven't depleted its HP by at least 75% by round 7 he'll completely refill its HP bar, if you did he'll cast Miracle 3 and buff himself but at that point it will matter little since you'll probably have a few unions ready to rape him with Weapon Arts.
Now, what you want to do is:
-Use formations with spread topology so you can avoid his AoE retaliation, do not use formations that turn your union into tight clusters because you'll eat up a lot of damage
-Have at least three unions capable of Rez and healing since Hand of God is a thing and it's almost certainly a union wipe if you eat one
-You'll have Wyngale acting as a single member guest union, this is both good and bad since Wyngale adds up to the Deadlock count and can tank Hand of God but at the same time he's REEEing so he'll probably cause some trouble while deadlocking, and him getting terminated also lowers your morale
-A few good Psionic users to keep morale high
-A Ninja union leader to get ambushes for easy flanking
-Leaders with strong single target WA, aka Jaeger, Torgal or the Duke of Ghor
-A Hexer with Cachexia to act at the end of the round and negate the AoE spam, if you use Cachexia before The Fallen gets a turn before the end of the round you'll negate the fixed AoEs completely, but YOU MUST use it at the end of the round, otherwise The Fallen will get enough AP back to use AoE
Just finished Ys 8. Man, everything about this game especially the OSTs are so criminally good that I despise myself for not knowing this series earlier. Does the older games live up?
You played one of the worst one, of course the older ones are better.
Almost done with Atelier Meruru DX, all that's left is endings and superbosses. Hope 15 months is enough.
The only Ys better than 8 are Origins and Oath.
Rpg-maker eroge are the only jrpgs worth playing.
You got it wrong, user. It's not THE The Fallen. I just used '' because I forgot its name, but I just looked. It's actually Demigod, but he looks like The Fallen and also uses AoE attacks at the end of his turn. Basically, he is powered up version of The Fallen. I just hope I don't have 10 turns limit with him, too.
And I have to grind for Cachexia. I don't have that skill. Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to give Rush Hexes basically at the end of the game?
Should I?
Ah, demigod, he's The Fallen with no turn limits but free for all spam and inflated stats, lots and lots of HP too.
>Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to give Rush Hexes basically at the end of the game?
Because by then you have tons of Hexers available, Loki, Nora, Maddox, Zolean, even Blocter learns hexes, Rush being able to learn hexes early would mean little and Hexes become really strong later in the game, not just for Cachexia but for the general powercreep and soft Morale control.
Zolean comes with pretty much anything but Cachexia prelearned so he's also the best option to have around if you haven't bothered with any of the other hexers for some reason, he'll learn Cachexia very fast.
does shadowniggers count?
i'm also replaying vesperia when I have the time, which almost never happens
Not really.
OK, thank you.
Just one question. Should I try to learn Cachexia on Bai Ze in Croockfen, or on enemies in A. Ruins?
I've played all of the good ones. All 10 or so
I just finished a session of Etrian Odyssey 5. Doing my fourth run through the game and just got to floor 7. The quest to kill all the moles is tedious as fuck so I usually do it in two sittings, hence the break.
Party is
Dragoon, Harbinger, Masurao
Necromancer, Shaman
Shaman feels really useless right now. The buffs don't feel like they do very much and 10 points to heal 24 HP from buffs was a mistake.
No point in using Bai Ze for anything by then, the ruins are the best place for grinding anything,
Mind you, you don't NEED Cachexia, just having good equipment and formations does the job just fine, Cachexia is just the usual crutch like Quicktime, in theory you can and should be able to just bulldoze Demigod with smart flanking, psionics, formations and WA spam, especially if you have people like Jaeger or the DoG, let alone the Seven.
Thx, bro!
I really need to finish this before 26th (FE Three Houses is coming out).
I'm stuck playing GBF. Berseria's sitting pretty in my backlog.
No problem.
Just remember to use Cachexia as your last action in a round otherwise it will be useless, unless you're crazy enough to grind five hexers with Cachexia for each union you have.
Well, I do have 3 or 4 characters who can use Hexes (not including Rush).
I just fapped my penks needs a break
I hate this garbage design
>Little 10 year old/school girl in PANTSU with a huge weapon and big shoulder pads and very often highheels
It's like the over-used nosebleed gag nips kept using
Fuckign dumb
Because I like actual gameplay in my videogames
Just started Atelier Rorona and I'm planning to play the whole trilogy. This series is comfy as fuck.
Totori makes my peepee hard
I wish there was a company that did nothing but translate and port ecchi games to the PC
Personally loved it, came out in the transition years between the good old final fantasy and the new action oriented rpgs that are popular now (and mostly shit IMO).
It feels like an old school rpg, if that's what you're looking for you won't be disappointed.
The only problem I had with it is that it didn't run very well. Despite being a freaking exclusive, there were some portions of the game where there were huge frame drops. Nothing to make it unplayable, and it was mostly during cutscenes, but to me it was quite annoying.
You mean like Mangagamer, Sekai Project or any other VN translation company out there?
Because there isn't a single one that is the way I want.
Well what do you want from a JRPG then?
But I am. I'm playing Trials of Mana in the Mana Collection for Switch. I love the simplicity in the delivery of the story.
This is my first time playing, so I picked Duran, Kevin and Riesz. Duran's story is so so streamlined that I can't help but loving every second of it.
>start game, you fight a guy (no tutorial)
>get backstory in 3 sentences
>cut to mage attack during night watch
>after attack, king wants to spy on neighbouring kingdom
>duran feels like shit for having lost
>SWEARS REVENGE ON THE MAGE
>go to his house and say goodbye to his sister and aunt
>adventure start
This is another thing I loved in Legend Of Legacy for the 3DS: simple plot, lot's of gameplay and exploring.
Switch rerelease when?
A nice open world that gives me a sense of freedom.
So, Dragon's Dogma.
>over-used nosebleed gag
Don't nips have a genuine nosebleed problem, relatively speaking?
I was thinking about buying Octopath Traveler but I'm still on the fence. I'm worried I can't enjoy JRPGs anymore, I might be too old.
Not console games.
>simple plot, lot's of gameplay and exploring.
You should play the SaGa games then, especially since LoL was made by former SaGa team members and is effectively a SaGa clone.
I'm playing one of the best games out there
>sexually attractive lolis
You mean to tell me there's lolis that aren't sexually attractive?
>But I'm playing one right now
>Is the queen ant something I'm supposed to kill right now or come back later? It looks like it has a ton of health and it shits out adds constantly who also make more adds. you guessed right, the queen is a massive pain and much harder than the actual stratum boss. Though once you acquire attacks that kill all ants in 1-2 blows and something like Aegis Guard you can take her more comfortably.
I like lolis hut what youre saying is fucking retarded
They should be everywhere 18+ or not
Getting ready for work
I'm not an incel.
I just beat Persona 4 Golden. I think I want to take a break from RPGs in general for a bit. I did wanna move onto Arena/Ultimax and I feel it would be easier since they're fighting games, but whatever.
I just started Shining Force II last night. Never played it before. I’m liking it a lot.
Any good PSX jrpgs you guys would recommend?
The SaGa frontier games
Are they connected story wise or did they pull a final fantasy?
Saga Frontier, not recommended for plebs tho, shit gets hard
they’re not good
vns are not jrpgs
All SaGa games are standalone.
The Frontier duology games especially have nothing in common with each other, outside of the standard SaGa ruleset and mechanics, it's mostly a naming convention used to define a certain generation of entries.
Not connected at all.
Now that I think about it most JRPG series don't really have interconnected games (FF, etrian odyssey, SaGa, SMT, Dai...), the only where it''s just a bunch of sequels is rance.
none of the games are connected
and SF 1 and 2 are like night and day (to my chagrin because I adore sf1)
but I am
been really getting back into the .hack//GU collection
Is Shining Resonance Refrain good? Playing Ys 8 now and SRR looks a bit too cringy for me
Played Dragon Quest (NES). It was awful and gave up midway.
Played Dragon Quest (SNES). It was awful but I got near the end. Gave up because it was just too boring.
Played Final Fantasy (NES). It was pretty bad but I almost won the game. Gave up because it was just too boring, plus all I wanted was to see the beginning of the series and recurring elements. So I simply watched a Let's Play about the ending.
Played Final Fantasy II (NES). I quit the moment walking a few tiles too far leads to impossible encounters, and I'm not about to endure that when Dragon Quest already used bridges to explain the player where danger lied.
I'm playing Final Fantasy III (NES) right now. It's far better.
1. Actual job system.
2. Quality of life improvements all around.
3. More emphasis on the story, but the beginning of FFII already showed it was a much more "cinematic" game than Final Fantasy 1.
Lunar 1 and 2, Breath of Fire 3 and 4, Legend of Dragoon, already mentioned SaGa Frontier games, Vagrant Story.
Also, something I noticed a few weeks ago, probably after Sacrlet Grace port announcement.
>Yea Forums likes SaGa
Maybe this place is not so shitty after all.
Yea Forums IS shit, SaGa is not that obscure.
is that a nigger or sandnigger?
>rip that child's hair genes.
I said ''not so shitty'', meaning it is shit. Just not 100%
If you use words like cringy then you definitely won't be able to stand it
It's just that the now dead /vr/ generals for SaGa managed to miraculously coagulate the various scattered fans of the series into a more or less solid community when it comes to Yea Forums.
There were always people who liked the games but never had a real presence until three or four years ago because SaGa is niche in the west and most people in this place are casuals, it's all really thanks to /vr/, and the recent revival of the series on Squenix' side putting some more fuel on the fire.
I wonder if my penis could penetrate her armor...
>Why aren't you playing a JRPG right now?
They all have long overly elaborate stories and are too much of a commitment to play.
If there are any good JRPGs with minimal story and solid gameplay I might be interested. But I don't know of any made after 1997.
I'd recommend skipping DQ2
I am though, I'm playing dark souls.
To be honest, I don't go to /vr/ or /vg/, only Yea Forums, so I am not familiar with conversations/threads on those 2 boards. Do you think there is a hope for this series? I mean, SquareEnix is giving us more ports, maybe they will do something in the near future. Also, The Alliance Alive is getting a HD remaster, and that is clearly a game inspired by SaGa.
>thisisbait.jpg
FGO event
Playing .Hack//G.U Last Recode atm. Pretty fun.
Dark Souls is an RPG made in Japan, therefore a JPRG.
Stop being an EOP.
good choice
it's like being in 2005 again with all those forum posts
Valkyrie Profile
I want to play pokemon moon but I need wumpa coins on crash team racing nitro fueled.
Because I'm a pedo
Good game
Labyrinth of touhou 2
>Do you think there is a hope for this series?
In the west? The west never liked the series outside of the original GB games, and mostly because they were called FF in the west.
As far as Japan goes, the series never really died and the later games have been extremely well received, not to mention the Mobage being one of the highest grossing mobage in Japan since launch, and the best performing Squenix mobage ever, it even received a company award for that.
As you might have seen, Kawazu hasn't given up on the western fanbase and he is pushing for western releases as much as the company might not care, so if you're worried about not getting the games, you shouldn't, the new producer is also a big fan of the series and he's doing his honest best for it.
>and that is clearly a game inspired by SaGa.
It's made by former SaGa team members so it's not just inspired, Koizumi has been a battle director since the SNES days and has worked on the series for decades, Legend of Legacy and Alliance Alive are more or less children of SaGa, you're playing with pretty much the same rules, albeit some of those a bit reworked, they're to SaGa what Pathfinder is to D&D so to speak.
It's legitimately one of the few "underrated gems" from the 360 days. Expect to get hit with a lot of emotions you didn't know you had.
Sounds like you're doing something like this?
How is it not an rpg
You even have the choice to randomly murder almost everybody you meet.
More of an rpg than dragon quest or final fantasy.
because I'm not a pedophile
>It's made by former SaGa team members
I didn't know that, thank you for correction.
I vaguely remember one post on Yea Forums. Basically, user said that SaGa games would be (probably) better received if there weren't so many hidden stats and factors in them. For example, a stat which gives you an information when will you learn new skill or level up your current one. Not to mention one thing I posted a few hours ago about The Last Remnant - wtf causes weapon's leveling up?
Don't get me wrong, I like discovering some things, but without the help of the internet it would be much harder. Not to mention fighting enemies for materials, and good luck finding out which enemy drops which material. Again, help of the internet is needed. Long story short, I would really love to have a bestiary / monster book (similar to Tales series) in TLR.
I wish it'd finally get a rerelease on a different fucking system, I don't have a 360.
>I wish it'd finally get a rerelease on a different fucking system, I don't have a 360.
I think it's backwards compatible on the Xbone
I don't have any variety of xbox, I play on weeb consoles exclusively, specifically because I want to play rpgs
i played pic related over the weekend. all in all, it was a decent timewaster with a legitimately challenging final boss. biggest issues are its short length (it's only 15 hours long) and rushed story.
>SaGa games would be (probably) better received if there weren't so many hidden stats and factors in them
I don't think it's true because only casuals whine about that and modern SaGa games are so transparent on average it's a pointless complaint, the same people also complain about D&D based games being too autistic because they're too transparent for their own good, and also complain about these games not telling them EVERYTHING ZOMG I HAVE TO USE MY BRAIN FOR SOMETHING?!?!? like it happened recently for Kingmaker daring to not have indepth popup about certain mechanics.
>wtf causes weapon's leveling up?
Same thing as other SaGa games, using them.
Each time you use something the game registers that and applies some progression check to it for each turn, this is why your techs get powerups mid battle for instance, or get eventually changed into other style dependent variants (Mighty, Swift etc.), same goes for magic.
>I like discovering some things, but without the help of the internet it would be much harder.
No shit, it's almost like a game is actually hard when you don't have a cheat spreadsheet that plays the game for you and tells you everything in advance.
Besides, outside of certain rare materials like a few gemstones, all drops in TLR follow strict naming conventions so that you can immediately know which monsters drop which, or make an educated guess on the subfamilies of a species, it's all about paying attention.
>I would really love to have a bestiary / monster book (similar to Tales series) in TLR.
That would be against everything the series stands for, they already diluted it a lot in the later years, giving you even more direct, explicit information is simply not possible.
I don't know why you'd want that from one of the last RPG series that actually respects your intelligence either.
I started playing VNs instead
They are like JRPGs without the bad stuff
It's backwards compatible for sure, I've played it on my X.
>He bought an Xbone X
I got it for $100, fuck off
I think I'm done grinding disgaea
I'll never beat Baal oh well
Because I own a large darkRP server and im playing that instead. Getting on yourself and maintaining the community is the most important part, you know?
>You even have the choice to randomly murder almost everybody you meet.
That doesn't make a game an RPG. Jesus fuck.
Dark Souls is an action game with a series of interconnected action levels with action bosses at the end, with NPCs sprinkled in the levels like NPCs might be in an action game. Gun.Smoke for NES had vendors where you could buy weapon upgrades, Princess Toadstool in SMB3 gives you hints after each level, etc.
Dark Souls has no towns, no cities, nothing at all that makes it feel like a realistic place except for vague references to places that supposedly exist in a world you have no way to access or even see. Lordran is a theme park with a dark, undead theme. It's not an RPG campaign setting. Dark Souls just happens to use an RPG-like stat system for character builds and it has a medieval theme. Any resemblance to a real RPG ends there.
>inb4 dungeon crawls don't have towns
Classic Blobbers are typically more like an extended campaign module than a full RPG. So while they are properly considered RPGs due to their gameplay mechanics, they're often partial-RPGs from a world-building perspective. That's different from Dark Souls where the world outside of Lordran was never intended to be anything more than window dressing for the game, like the Mushroom Kingdom.
>More of an rpg than dragon quest or final fantasy.
You think that because you don't really understand what RPG means, and probably give way too much emphasis to the term "roleplay" to mean "play-acting" and "making decisions." I don't blame you because there are a lot of retarded faggots spreading this meme. But the turn-based, stat-based mechanics of DQ and FF, as well as their portrayal of a quasi-realistic world to adventure in, makes them undeniably RPGs.
OK then, I am an idiot.
>Faerie Rawhide
That's a common drop of a certain monster group. Which one?
>Which one?
Amoebas (the laughing farting jellies with lots of eyes) are the family that drops "Faerie" type components.
Can you fuck that girl?
Small addition, iirc some oarfish (The Skyfish floating things that use the Moth's skeleton) subtypes also drop Faerie components.
Still playing Mary Skelter. I listened to Yea Forums which said to stack lots of AGI and that Amber Red is OP. That unfortunately made the combat very trivial (on Horror, even).
Still kinda intrigued by the whole setting, but the latest twist, if that was supposed to be one, was super predictable.
>ask Yea Forums about a jrpg
>they say it's shit
>play it anyway
>it was shit
What's her name?
MUH
>hey let's add an AOE attack that hits every weakness and maxes out every girl's blood meter
>hey let's add a girl who can refill everyone's mana with one lick
What were they thinking?
Shit, after 70+ hours in TLR I still don't know that. Time to commit sudoku.
Play Suikoden 2
playing Survival Horror, a much more interesting genre
Just to give you a few examples of the naming conventions:
>Aerial Insect-
Dropped by Shellfly families
>Butterfly-
Dropped by Moth families (Butterflies and Moths are subtypes of the same family)
>Chimera-
Dropped by Chimera families (Chimeras and Rockgraters are subtypes of the same family)
>Colossus-
Dropped by Giant families (Barbarossa or Ancbolders for instance)
>Anthrovore-
Dropped by Plantoids (Those plant zombie thingies you fight with Pagus during the Rubber Soul questline in the beginning of the game
Sometimes there's a few more definite rules, such as:
>Azdaha-
Dropped by Azdaha/Weredragon
>Demon-
Dropped by Demons (Bear in mind that while Demons and Azdaha/Weredragons are essentially the same family, Demons are considered a definite subtype in terms of components, so an Azdaha DOESN'T drop Demon components and viceversa), Demons are also considerably different from Azdaha since they are stronger all around and use breath attacks Azadahas do not have.
I hope you got some idea of how naming works, you should also know that humanoids tend to drop the weapons they wield too, on top of other "human" components such as sashes or armlets.
This is really all standard SaGa logic, all you have to do is pay attention since you get tons of drops after each fight and you can very easily learn who drops what by paying attention to what you just fought and the components you got, not to mention TLR also allows you to capture monsters and choose to kill them and loot them one by one so you have even more precise information on their drops and the various naming rules.
Even an enemy's appearance can give you lots of clues and information just by looking at it, though this admittedly more true to other entries than TLR.
I'm too autistic to not follow a guide
>TLR
To Love Ru?
Playing Dark Cloud and it's excellent. I can't believe I slept on it so long. Took a bit to wrap my head around building up weapons but I think I got a handle on it now that I'm in the forest dungeon.
It's really scratching that dungeon crawl itch i had. Are there any other good dungeon crawling action JRPGs? I know there's a bunch of first person ones and some mystery dungeon ones but would like more that aren't turn based.
This game unironically kicked my ass for the first two hours. When they rearrange your party for the second dungeon the two new girls were too weak to get past any of the new normal enemies on whatever the hardest difficulty was called.
The Last Remnant, it's super interesting.
im playing Octopath Traveler on my switch and its pretty fun so far
>you only tastes a little bit of shit
>why not eat more user?
>ask Yea Forums about a jrpg
there's your first mistake. every game is shit according to Yea Forums unless it's bing bing wahoo, "based gaben" or some obscure eurojank on pc.
Should I play the original Etrian Odyssey games, or should I play the 3DS remakes?
>Are there any other good dungeon crawling action JRPGs?
Brandish games or Xanadu NEXT come to mind.
so I was right?
Playing Nier. It's a lot more RPG than I expected. Collecting ingredients and going on fetch quests is like 90% of the content.
Is that the temple with rules?
No to your .jpg
Mary Skelter is trash
yeah, was a really good dungeon. Hope there's more.
You have to play it twice. In case you didn't know, when you start NG+ you don't actually start from the begining but from... um... not gonna say it, but the reason why you MUST play NG+ is: you will see true ending once you collect all weapons, new scenes and you will have subtitles for shades. Yes you, as a player, will understand them. But not your characters.
Finished Trails in the Sky but haven't bought Cold Steel yet so I'm grinding Neptunia instead
You only have to play part of the game twice to get all the endings? Is it like Drakengard 3 where you choose which branch you want to progress?
I'm too busy playing splatoon 2
3ds remakes. The originals are janky as fuck and half the skills are bugged to not work.
PC remake fucking when
Nah, more like 3 times.
>normal
>once again from THAT point
>once again from the exact same point, collect all weapons (yes), select one option after the final boss fight
>reload the save before the final boss, kill him, pick the other option
You will know what I'm talking about.
It's pretty fucking flawless on emulator. 60 fps would be nice though.
That's how I felt, too. Resources were scarce in the beginning. Items, but especially SP. Those AoE skills were prohibitively expensive in the early game. Taking that bow off of Sleepy helped, though (it actually reduces SP).
I rushed through the Graveyard to the part where you meet up with Alice and RRH again and besides the second Nightmare being a bit of a struggle for some reason, the game has been pretty easy since.
People warned me about Compile Heart. The game's not the worst, but it has certainly been dragging on for a bit now, especially with how easy the combat has become.
Neptunia is such a shitshow, but...
>has chan
>Pirachu and Arfoire
>Noire is a bitch
There are just too many of them, I keep losing track.
I still don't undestand. What is Kaine? Intersex? Or a guy who was raised as a girl (and took pills for tits grow)?
Would fuck either way.
She's an anime style hermaphrodite (aka futanari) a woman in all and every meaning except she was born with both a dick and vag.
Did you figure out what a Mary Skelter is?
But I am, user.
she wasn't born that way
she was rebuilt by aliens who didn't quite understand the difference between male and female
She's a futa
So, no balls?
The forgotten memories plot is genuinely compelling for me. I love it.
Unknown.
I'm playing Fairy Fencer F but it's pretty shitty. Should I try Blue Reflection instead? I really like Atelier shit.
FFF is fun
No. Recently finished both the Dorm and Waterside and so I now know that Blood Maidens are born from Märchens and aren't human. Big Whoop.
Also, inb4 the Professor is Snark.
I am though
Yes but don't play it for gameplay. It's really basic and balanced way too easy. Play it for school girls and melancholic emotions.
Fuck you Nowaru-chan is cute!
Woolie?
Been a long time since I played this, but I remember the plot having some neat ideas, the combat being solid and the antagonist being shit
>I listened to Yea Forums which said to stack lots of AGI and that Amber Red is OP.
Half the fun of these kinds of games is figuring out for yourself what works well. Why ask about a cookie cutter in the first place?
She is. But she is still a bitch.
I'm not very far in but it seems pretty boring to me. I'm not having difficulties on hard mode, combat system looks deep but it's really not at all from what I can tell, many mechanics are tacked on and overall don't seem to matter much (especially the part-break thing, or fairize which is just a basic overlimit). Also the music is awful, especially that cringe j-rock that plays when you transform into a power ranger. Finally, all the characters are unlikable, especially the main dude is insufferable. I know it's not supposed to be taken seriously, but unlike, say, Atelier Rorona, this one has little to no charm in its dialogue and characters.
I didn't exactly ask. Someone made an off-hand remark in a thread a la "the game is trash, combat is so easy you just have to do X and Y".
Couldn't pretend I did not read that. Should have tried to disregard it anyway.
I'm waiting for the new Fire Emblem game
Getting fucked up in my HG nuzlock, got bamboozled by the Morty. Lost my Quillava, my Heracross, and my Togitec.
Down to a Nidoqueen, a Hypno, a Magnimite, a Aipom(lvl3), a Eevee(lvl5) and a Caterpie(lvl6).
Gonna have to grind a shitton to be able to do anything since half my team is useless.
Hope to get a Tauros or Miltank on the next route, but anything will suffice at this point.
Dumb underage
pokemon is the only good jrpg
Because they're boring.
Because learning kanji and recognizing words is proving to be a bitch. Especially since I have no idea when a new word starts or ends.
