Downloaded the one Spellhold but I get a weird error when I try to run setup. 'Not a valid Win32 program' or some shit. Help?

You're correct. They should've gone with a spinoff title if Baldur's Gate is in the game. 3 implies that it's a sequel just like 2 was a direct sequel for the first game. But I guess it's easier to market if you just call it BALDUR'S GATE THREE

No they didn't think that which is why they actually made SoD instead. That was the final time they would use the infinity engine. It had too many limitations and didn't project enough revenue to justify anything more.

Beamdog started out as a small company founded by two Bioware old timers Trent and Cameron. Their team only worked on games they have worked on themselves or for which they had intimate familiarity of the engine. That's why they worked on those old games but the profits are split between multiple parties which keeps their budget low. They sometimes even refer to themselves as an indie studio because of these factors.

If they pitched a big game they would have to ask Wizards to put up the money to fund development. They would say no, the business people at Hasbro would see it's a small company and keep them on small projects instead. That's why they're doing Axis and Allies instead of BG3. Owned by the same company but a different and smaller scale game.

If SoD had been more of a success and got positive reviews they still wouldn't have got the license. Larian got it because they sold big with DOSII and are a proven success in the eyes of Hasbro execs. Nothing more nothing less.

They have milked it quite a lot already, they are Hasbro. To them Baldur's Gate is a brand name, that's why you have Baldur's Gate boardgames and shit. Got to milk that fan money.

Intern here. From what I was told, none of the people who made BG great had anything to do with Enhanced. David Gaider was furious with the writing. I literally saw him do a weird onions passive aggressive argument with Trent about Dragonspear. Gaider was really hoping he could redeem the series with BG3 but no one listened to him. He was just there to "write". Which Beamdog treats like smoothing over cracks in a game.

Mostly indifferent, I realized that BG3 isn't going to resurrect my childhood, no matter how realistically good it turns out to be.
Sometimes angry, because how the game is shilled to be the 2nd coming of Jesus, developed by a studio which made mediocre to great (but popular and commercially successful) series of their own. I'm under impression that fanboys use Bioware and nu-Obsidian and their games as a strawman for everything not-Larian. Just because Bioware has been shit since after the original Dragon Age and Obsidian turned to shit with Avellone leaving doesn't mean that Larian is the best dev ever. Hell, even Owlcat would be more fit for the job (they even applied for it but were turned down, not that it was surprising back then) after they released the final edition of Pathfinder, but they were too late, seeing as that edition came out just when Larian announced BG3, and they have been working on the game for a year or couple by the time.
BG3 is going to be mediocre at best, until they release some gameplay which would prove otherwise. It can't have much in common with the original saga seeing as it came to a full, satisfactory closure and 3 is going to take place after a major timeskip, several world reboots and editions later, which screams "moneygrab". The fact that Hasbro at some point considered Beamdog fit to make BG3 in the first place means Hasbro doesn't have high standards. We're at the mercy of Larian making good game on their own volition and Hasbro not shitting it up too much.

To be fair to both Bioware and Beamdog, a lot of that is on Gaider. He never asserts himself from what I saw. He just collects a paycheck and mumbles through stuff when he feels he's not getting his way. He doesn't fight for any of his ideas. It'd be fucking easy at Beamdog because most of Beamdog minus Trent really wanted to listen to what Gaider had to say. But he said fuck all.

Some characters will conflict and ultimately fight eachother but it's not always tied to alignment
