DTN2019 in NY which in the middle of a 46℃ (115 fahrenheit) heatwave.
Venue banned outside drinks. They had water stations but of course they were overcrowded, had tiny cups, and were clearly insufficient.
Krucial B got a seizure from heatstroke, was taken away in an ambulance and later died in hospital. The event continued, with staff immediately going around in person and online claiming that it wasn't heatstroke and that they "can't say" what it was because of "privacy".
Seems like the anime games room was in the ghetto AC-less room
Robert Ramirez
And that's a good thing.

I dunno, can´t you buy water? Or water in your hotel room from the sink?

>hosting anything in new york in the summer that requires electricity haven't summer brownouts been a thing there for decades? even fucking hey arnold had an episode about summer power outages

They're factoring in humidity. It's hotter in Arizona (where I live) right now, and no one is dying, except for the out-of-state folks not used to the heat.
I don't really know if whoever is in charge of this can go to prison as I'm not familiar with law at all but I definitely don't want them involved in any future events.
Connor Nelson
It hit 44 in my town and thousands of bats died and stunk up the place.
David Rodriguez
I hope whoever runs the venue gets arrested lel
Dylan Powell
>yankees can't handle the heat Big fucking surprise. Why'd you list celsius first? It was in murrica, use murican units.
Shouldn't you be ranting at your nephew about how taxation is theft around now?
Evan Phillips
Almost as funny as trying to watch a Californian try to drive in snow.
Luis Bennett
If everything being said is true, whoever was in charge can be easily convicted of negligent manslaughter. You can't ban outside drinks then not supply sufficient water for people to drink. FGC displaying its intelligence as always.
Blake Ortiz
damn, I didn't care before but sounds like we lost someone great
This might be a retarded question but why didn't they just go outside and drink water
Ayden Hughes
I was at DTN today from 11AM to 5PM, place was fine temperature wise, they had water everywhere and they literally did not give a shit if you brought shit in, I walked in with a gatorade in my hand. They weren't selling any Food or Drinks there.
There were a TON of fat guys in the FGC room and the place was over crowded. The AC kept up though so this guy probably died from being a weak bitch.
Good luck getting that past the penis inspection booth
Matthew Brooks
To add to this, I’ve also lived in CA in the Central Valley and it’s gone 109, it’s fucking hot, but it’s gets muggy as fuck with humidity. Feels like you’re being drained not being fried.
Cameron Hill
The heat sucks, man. I just wish I could enjoy winter more, but in the winter, all the retarded Snowbirds come in and make life miserable for the natives. They can't figure out how to work gas pumps, they take forever in grocery stores, they're a menace on the roads, they make it impossible to go anywhere real quick for a bite to eat, and they're disrespectful as fuck.
I bet more people would stay properly hydrated if water tasted like coke
Leo Murphy

Anybody who says that humidity is worse than dry heat is a retarded coastie that's never been to a desert. I used to think that, too, but then I experienced what 120 degrees in dry heat feels like, and I'll take 80% humidity 110 degrees over that any day of the week.
Literally the only person I heard this from and it's on fucking Yea Forums.

it's extremely common, although most won't actually search you for drinks so people bring them anyway

Yeah, if you're out in death valley without any shade, it's going to suck worse than having a broken AC in Miami (actually, you're going to die, but I digress), but you can get out of the worst of dry heat just by finding shelter. Humidity makes you feel like your skin is suffocating and you can't get away from it even if you try to duck for cover.
Caleb Robinson
That sort of thinking would force a lot of lawyers to get real jobs.

If you think Fahrenheit is nonsensical then you're actually a retard.

Fuck deserts too but in typical heatwave shit Dry > Wet.

REMINDER OP IS A FAG AND LYING First, while the tournament is a laughing stock for other reasons (look at the rusty-ass medals they gave out), his post is 100% a lie. I'm not going to source the shit out can easily Google, but any reference to video comes from this tweet which shows the dude in question before his death: twitter.com/LoyalSol/status/1152887722274697216 >Heatwave was 115 Weather says NYC got up to 94 those days in question >Venue banned outside drinks No proof of this. Rules do not mention it and video shows multiple different kinds of bottled water. The venue was also a four star hotel and did have A/C in most of the building. The main hall is a huge place and while it was crowded, it was not a sauna. >guy dies of heatstroke Except in the footage from the room in question, while it looks warm, people aren't sweaty messes.
OP is a total faggot with zero proof.
Aaron Rodriguez
Inside a small enclosed and crowded space with no AC (thus nowhere for the heat to escape), water bottles were banned, water stations were inefficient (and apparently not cooled at all, no ice) that outside temperature gets amplified to the point that it's like you're in a coffin about to run out of oxygen.
Camden Hall
Where are you getting this tripe from? OP? One guy on Twitter (where another says it was all ice water). You can fucking WATCH the tournament and see people aren't dying from the heat

What people don't seem to understand about dehydration is that if you feel thirsty at all, you're already dehydrated. You can guzzle all the water you want at that point, it takes a while for your body to process it and adequately recover. I guarantee 90% of the attendees at events like this are soda chuggers in a constant state of dehydration, and if you're at the point where your health is compromised enough that a lack of water will kill you, there's not a damn thing anybody responsible for the venue can do to change that.

If that were the case then this would happen at every major, and not just the poorly run ones. I've been to Vegas and Daytona where it was just as if not even hotter than it was today in NY but you don't see people complain about dehydration at those events where they allowed people to bring their own water bottles and didn't stuff people into small hotel ballrooms with no AC in +90F weather

nobody denies that the earth is warming. what we deny is that man has any fucking thing to do with it. if you accept that native americans migrated across the trans-siberian land bridge that definitely exists and definitely has archeological proof of said migration(in addition to the conclusions you can come to via genetics), then you accept that the ocean levels have been rising from glacial melt for milennia for reasons that are NOT mankind's fault, because mankind didn't reach the industrial age until 200 years ago. we didn't cause global warming, we're probably not gonna stop it, and it doesn't fucking matter because the earth has been far hotter with healthy ecosystems(especially vegetation) in spite of them. The only people who actually are mad at global warming are the rich jews who own and are losing their beachfront property, soon to submerge just like the land bridge.
Ethan Price
So much for blacks being adapted to African heatwaves
Not having AC is a pain but I'm not surprised fgc autists are willing to forgo personal health just to play video games. I've admittedly never had heatstroke or played in a tournament so feel free to call me a fag, but I'd imagine that if I were in extreme pain/discomfort or on the verge of fucking death I'd rather get the fuck out than worry about playing another set.
now i know who were cyberpunk sun shitposters this kill the mutt
Hudson Reyes
OP & Tweeter is exaggerating, or deliberately misrepresenting facts. The heat index got over 100°F in lower New York, that's the temperature that it "feels like" once you factor in humidity. The actual thermometer reading didn't get above 100.
Jose Green
>dying to a little heat lmao I've gone through several Texas summers without AC. Yankees need to grow a pair.

Humidity. That's it. Why doesn't anyone realize that the places that get cold, also get as hot as the places that only get hot. Just for not as long, and the northeast gets ridiculously humid, especially the cities.

So basically it's not that dangerous in terms of actual temperature as long as you stayed hydrated and in a cool location but since they were in a room with no AC, filled with people and electronics generating heat and no access to drinks, a dude had a heatstroke and died
>If you're in a place with a high dew point and a high air temperature, sweat simply can't evaporate fast enough to cool you down. The result is that you can overheat, and this will make you prone to the effects of various heat illnesses, including heat stroke, which is what happens when your body can't cool off through sweating. You can become confused and even lose consciousness because your body is essentially too hot. Other symptoms of heat illnesses can include dizziness, cramps, nausea, headaches and a quickening of the pulse.

>You may even experience lower cognitive function. A study published in PLOS Medicine shows that exposure to high temperatures can result in slower response times. A team followed a group of college students in Boston — one set who lives in air-conditioned dorms and the other set lives in dorms without air conditioning. The students performed several tests, and researchers found those who didn't have air-conditioning in their living quarters had slower response times to answering questions and also missed more questions. The largest gap in cognitive function was when the students were outside and then went inside to "cool down."
Imagine playing a fighting game and the odds are already stacked against you and everyone else in the torrid room because your cognitive functions are negatively impacted by the heat, which I assume means response time as well

It's not even a legal definition, it's just abstudy being retarded. Pretty much everything else in terms of government stuff goes by "have some abo leader cunt say you're a part of the tribe you hung around and did their stupid dance that one time". idk if that's better or worse, really
Isaac Hill
Yeah the Government should probably stop people from banning people bringing their own water to closed-in events for the sake of lining their pockets. Eat shit bootlick.
Jason Fisher
Isn't that in part because the Aussie government implemented a plan to breed Abos to British settlers to "civilize them" ?
Levi Sanchez
>except for the out-of-state folks not used to the heat You don't "get used to" heatstroke. It's usually people who are completely acclimatized and don't bother to keep cool/hydrated. (esp. old locals, because they're more susceptible both to the heat and to being stubborn retards)

Can someone explain a brainlet what humidity is and why more is worse?
Jeremiah Evans
I'm pretty heat tolerant growing up in literal African shitholes but once you creep over 103/4 burger units that's like the wall man. Humidity doesn't have an appreciable effect on sweating's ability to dissipate heat. It's placebo (because you "feel" wetter) and you can look up around 5 papers with some pretty basic googling.
Jace Brown
You literally can't breathe.
You suffocate on air.
Thomas Thompson
Humidity is the amount of water vapor in the air. Ever take a hot shower and step out, and feel like you can't breathe? That's cause of humidity. it can be hot and dry and you'll get burned, but when the humidity is intense breathing becomes difficult to do.
Ethan Morris
It's basically the moisture in the air.
Cooper Martinez
>banning outside drinks, water included, during an extreme heatwave how fucked are they?

>Defend the North I don't know what this is supposed to even be

Fahrenheit was designed with mundane use in mind, tard. >inb4 0 is freezing not so easy to tell in fahrenheit!!! You will literally never use that information in mundane use. Fahrenheit scale also, ironically enough, is more precise per degree and its 0-100 range much more closely describes the standard human living conditions temperature-wise. 0 is fucking cold, 100 is fucking hot. All livable conditions.
Eli Mitchell
I never said "lol just toughen up" I said travel a bit and get used to it. It's far easier to adjust to humidity changes than altitude changes. I'm literally from a high humidity high temperature country and took me a while but I adjusted to a negative temperature low humidity climate in my travels.
Evan Nguyen
You've clearly never been in the military. There is extensive emphasis on hydration. You literally can not "just toughen up" as liquids leave your body. Water is vital to human processes and when you sweat, you lose a lot of it - fast. You need to drink water or you will suffer heavily. As long as you're drinking plenty of water, you're fine. It sucks and feels awful, but you're fine. Unless you have some garbage ass condition that seriously fucks with your body at high temperatures somehow but I imagine that'd be extremely rare.
tl;dr you need water.
Logan Richardson
One thing I never understood is why old people retire to Florida. One day with a broken A/C unit and they're as good as gone.
Asher Brown
Sweating dissipates heat by evaporating on the surface of the skin. The energy required to change water from liquid to vapor is much higher than what's required to simply change its temperature, hence it's better for it to evaporate. If the air is already saturated with water, the ambient vapor will condensate and sweat won't evaporate, which is the opposite of what's preferable from a thermodynamic perspective. To claim otherwise frankly sounds absurd to me, but I'll look up those papers tomorrow as you say anyway, or you can link them to me here and I'll check back in the morning.
Jordan Carter
I live in Minnesota and people here still don't know how to drive in the snow.

Hudson Reed
Anyone of us could suffer a seizure or aneurysm anytime
Charles Lopez
>17% humidity Why don't people that live in dry climates understand how much of a difference humidity makes? Do they never leave their area?
Your body regulates temperature by sweating. The water evaporates using the heat from your body to help it vaporize and thus removing the heat from you. If the air is already full of water, the water from your skin is less able to evaporate away.
Jason Allen

Sure i've never been in the military but i'm also not carrying half my body weight in equipment the open desert either and nobody was even talking about military shit before you felt you had to press your mil sim ego into this discussion. People in this thread are literally just talking about standing around not being able to breathe in high humidity temperature, they're not doing any fucking marathons or backflips. I have however travelled literally across asia and the Urals of Russia and parts of Siberia. At first I was figuratively freezing my nuts off in the snow with three layers and fucking Oleg and family is swimming in some river while laughing and then shrug it off and go back inside like it was nothing, now I can actually get used to his crazy family's outdoor swimming adventures myself but it's not as bad as before. Meanwhile I go anywhere high humidity in asia and it's barely a tickle.

But for real heat stroke is scary and you need to maintain your electrolytes.

I'm this faggot This has got to be fake right? 73F is like perfect weather. It was 72F in Singapore one time and my ex girlfriend claimed it was cold out. It was literally the perfect day.
Jordan Richardson
>Bro who cares about humidity dry heat is way worse in [solitary anomalous place widely known as among the most inhospitable on Earth]
Isaiah Johnson
You're right user. Know what happens past that critical threshold? Your body sweats more and directs more heat to your skin via your circulatory system. You can look up more modern studies to find out that it matters very little to your stamina, exertion levels, and core temperature. Humidity does bring you increased risk of dehydration above that critical threshold though. So drink water user. That critical threshold by the way is close to 50% relative humidity and while I can't say that never happens at 100+ degrees it's pretty rare.
I remember my English Aunt complaining about scorching conditions of 30 degrees celsius. She'd melt in a real heatwave.
Blake Stewart
> 38°C on thursday
just kill me
Asher Bennett
>humidity doesn't matter >just look at these studies I'm misunderstanding Visit a sauna bro.
Samuel Turner
I did travel everywhere. Including hot climates and rural areas. Don't spread dangerous misinformation that can get someone killed.
Jackson Williams
>hot climates and rural areas Lol the way you write all you've travelled is your own fucking back yard or country. Go overseas and further around dude outside of your regular acclimated geographical climate, if all you've done is lived and travelled in one domestic area you're not going to adjust very well to varying different climates.
David Evans
Is there anywhere in NA that isn't a total shithole for at least one season of the year? My summers average like 22°c and I love that shit, but winter is a baren hellscape that lasts 5 months and can be below -30°c for a third of that.
Noah Harris
This. Why is it always the people most deeply incorrect that are most convinced they're right?
Eli Cruz
>we should have a deer fart tax because summer is hot and a private venue banned people from hydrating themselves
It's not global warming. Earth's poles are shifting by several miles every year and the o-zone is all kinds of fucked up. Weather will become increasingly erratic and unpredictable in the future.
Isaac Jackson
>The human body doesn't work that way. That's literally how the human body works. It's called fucking evolution, we adapt to the environment around us. People who grew up in areas with less sunlight have light skin and need less amount of sunlight to get Vitamin D and as a result have poor resistance to UV rays. People who grew up in areas with long duration of sunlight end up with much darker skin and have a higher resistance to UV rays but need to supplement Vitamin D from other means since they will not absorb as much if any at all. People who grow up in mountain climates can breathe with thinner atmosphere better than people who didn't, likewise people who grew up in areas of high humidity can breathe better in that climate than people who didn't.
Nicholas Fisher
>get deployed to kuwait >temperature could get over 120 F well fuck me at least it's a desert so it's a dry heat >was on a naval base so it was literally on the Persian Gulf so high as fuck humidity as well I don't know how I didn't die. at least I'll never complain about the heat again. I was lucky enough to be a fobbit so we had AC most of the time and I worked midnight to noon so I avoided the worst parts of the day.
Robert Thompson
It's impossible to misunderstand. >Previous studies suggest that the maximum oxygen uptake (VO2max) and the Wingate anaerobic test performances are decreased in hot environments, but it is unknown whether humidity changes in a hot environment further affect the results of the VO2max and Wingate anaerobic test. Nine male athletes performed VO2max and Wingate anaerobic tests under three environmental conditions: (1) 21 °C/20% relative humidity (R.H.) (control); (2) 33 °C/20% R.H. (hot–dry); and (3) 33 °C/80% R.H. (hot–wet). The participants' weight, oral temperature, and skin temperature were recorded pre-exercise and postexercise. The heart rate was monitored continuously throughout the exercise. Compared to the control condition, the hot–dry and the hot–wet conditions had lower VO2max values (control at 3779.0 ± 234.3 mL/min vs. hot–dry at 3528.2 ± 467.4 mL/min and hot–wet at 3595.9 ± 274.6 mL/min; p < 0.05). However, there was no difference in the VO2max between the hot–dry and the hot–wet conditions. A decrease in the postexercise oral-to-skin temperature gradient was strongly correlated with decreased VO2max (mL kg−1 min−1) in all conditions (r = 0.835, p < 0.001). There was no significant difference between the conditions in the peak power and anaerobic capacity during the Wingate anaerobic test. The VO2max was impaired in the hot–dry and in the hot–wet conditions, compared to the control condition; however, the different humidity levels (i.e. hot–dry vs. hot–wet) had no effect on the VO2max. The postexercise oral-to-skin temperature gradient was in line with the variance in VO2max in all three different environmental conditions. The Wingate anaerobic test performance was not affected by the hot–dry or the hot–wet conditions, compared to the control environment. These results suggest that different relative humidity conditions do not affect the VO2max or the Wingate anaerobic test performance in hot environments.

Evolution doesn't happen over a couple of generations And you sure as fuck don't evolve by 'traveling the world's you absolute retard You can't fucking farm weather resistance exp, get a grip
Austin Fisher
Stop showboating and insulting me just because you want to spread misinformation that can kill someone
People are not that automatic with adaptation. Some people may but plenty don't. You don't suddenly get immune because of environments. That is literal dude science bullshit.
It you want to showboat go ahead. But that shit can get someone killed and that burden is on you.
Dylan Murphy
>17 and 16% humidity What a joke. Even at 80F with 90+% humidity feels worse than 105. I did 2 deployments in the persian gulf and it was 105+ almost every day with 90% humidity and no real AC on my ship except for a select few rooms like berthings. The plants were anywhere from 125-130F saturated with water from steam and you had to stand watch 4-6 hours at a time and often would come out with burns on your nose and ears.
My sense of heat has been completely warped.
Brody Lewis
if you can't jog a mile in vegas with a sweatshirt on, you don't deserve to be alive. nature should root out the weak so the strong can thrive.
You can fucking travel to a different climate and spend an X amount of time and get fucking used to it like a bunch of pale fucks did when they went to Africa, asian and the fucking Americas. Then when a bunch of a dark skinned dudes went to the pale fucks countries they fucking adjusted too.
Ryan Reyes

user travelling for a week, or even a year won't make him "evolve" to his new environment dumbfuck. He can get used to the climate, if feasible. You're mixing different things, and that's why you come across as a massive retard.
Chase Robinson
>guy that died was from louisiana Texans need to grow a brain
>People are not that automatic with adaptation. Some people may but plenty don't. Contradict yourself much? Either they are or they aren't which is it? Everyone can adapt, some take longer than others but everyone can fucking adapt. We've been doing it for literal centuries. >You don't suddenly get immune because of environments.hat is literal dude science bullshit. Nobody is talking about immunity except you, if you are only used to living in one climate and you never travel and experience other climates you're never going to be able to adjust and tolerate it. No human being will ever adjust to an absurd extreme climate with some form of protection but we're not even talking extreme climates here just a bit of fucking moisture in the air. >It you want to showboat go ahead. But that shit can get someone killed and that burden is on you. Lol talk about overexaggerating your fucking point. Like Joe Mcgee is going to die from stepping into a humid environment outside the airport in 2 minutes unless he's super out of shape chain smoking 5 cigarettes while eating a pizza.
Leo Peterson
What's the matter? Just a few months ago, you fags were bitching and complaining about the cold. Well now here's your heat, faggots. Enjoy.
Blake Rogers
>user travelling for a week, or even a year won't make him "evolve" to his new environment dumbfuck. In an average able bodies healthy being yes they will barring any respirartory ailments aside. >He can get used to the climate, if feasible. Lol a bit of a moisture in the air isn't feasible he says? A BIT OF FUCKING WATER MATE. How fucking soft you gotta be to be done in by a 20% change in humidity lol.
Thomas Roberts

Capitalism caused this. In a just society based on socialism they would be free to bring their own beverages, they literally killed citizens of their own country in order to drive up sales. Fucking kikes.
Bentley Campbell
I am pretty sure that would be illegal over here, they might force you to throw off the cap of the bottle for safety though.
