Not my favorite, but I thought this was a pretty cool boss fight for an NES rpg. I love the animations they give him in between phases.

If you've played darkest dungeon to the point of reaching the final boss you'll likely bring your best characters. The ones who have survived plenty of dungeons. If havent become too jaded from the grueling difficulty of the game killing off all the previous characters you've liked, you'll likely have some kind of attachment to those ones. But if so the final boss will ensure you become jaded and see heroes as nothing but pieces of meat to be sent into the grinder.
The boss fight isnt that hard especially compared to the rest of the game. And while it has a nice lead-up and plenty of phases it isnt even particularly unique. The real thing is that at 66% health and 33% health the boss has a unique attack called Come Unto Your Maker.
You must then choose one of the heroes you've brought to be instantly killed with no chance of survival, no matter their health or anything they are instantly consumed by the boss. It hammers in the games core theme of going on a costly crusade and sacrificing anything to win against impossible odds.

That fight was pretty fucking great desu. Especially since I didn't know his instant kill move was scripted, most of my guys were insane, and my Plague Doctor was acting like a fucking asshole. Very memorable experience.
