There is a counter for the number of times Rance has had sex, relevant to gaining more flags, that, in addition to incrementing from story events, character rank ups, territory conquest, female captures, and scenes, increments each turn according to how many territories you own. I don't know the exact math offhand.

Where can a newbie play these? And what's the suggested order?

Play Sengoku Rance and if you want more then check out Rance VI, 5D and 02

The titles are numbered from 01 to X. Start with sengoku, which is the eigth title. I would recommend you avoid the fifth title, kichikuou rance, until you've played at least the other titles in the first seven, 01 through VI. Obviously skipping 03 because that isnt out yet.

Oh, apparently they are planning on making 04 soon, so you should skip that too.

Also skip 5D because its shit

Why does no one ever take a fresh screenshot to talk about Rance? It's always this one. And there are a million interesting out of context scenes in Sengoku alone.

I really like the combat and territory control. I'd play a game that's just a reskinned Sengoku Rance without any porn
the more traditional RPG battles where it's just the captains doesn't flow as well as the army fights for me so I wouldn't miss those too much

when you die you get points you can use for little bonuses in NG+, usually things that make the early game a little bit more generous, and then let you snowball into more resources. getting an NG1 clear requires both a guide and reset spam in order to give yourself advantageous fights and not exhaust all of your units.

Sengoku Rance for sure. I like Kichikuou Rance and Toushin Toshi II more for their stories (and the gameplay in both is pretty alright too) but they're oudated as fuck. Sengoku is still really fun to play although I think the writing isn't at the same level as those two ancient games.
