Perhaps the only genuine masterpiece of 2018 and none of you ever discuss it
Perhaps the only genuine masterpiece of 2018 and none of you ever discuss it
boy i sure love walking through corridors while my wife's son keeps talking
>Slog of Bore
Nothing about GOW 2019 is special. All of it is competent but done better in other, more focused games
It removed every ounce of soul from god of war and replaced it with a wannabe capeshit hook with my wifes son
>soi of peace
no
Monhun was my GOTY 2018.
It's such a feat of imagination, it's stunning.
I had fun. I even started reading into Norse lore.
Everyone, say it with me!
>GORE GOOD
>NUDITY BAD
It’s really not that good.
i'm not into dad simulators
You're not allowed to discuss good games on Yea Forums
Lol, this joke never gets old. Keep it up user!
Haha
>masterpiece
>the boy gets sick because he doesnt know he’s a demo god
Wew lad
Probably because it was extremely boring and forgettable.
the other platforms are still salty
>none of you ever discuss it
It was bland and forgettable. If this was the old God of War it would have started with you fighting Jörmungandr.
>literally based on a mythology
>imagination
This is a new low
>people who like it explain why
>people who didn’t like it don’t
Contrarianism doesn’t make you look smart, it makes you look retarded.
Defend this.
If you're too lazy to search the archives, it was discussed as much as it was needed, when it first fucking came out. There's a reason it's not talked about anymore. There's literally nothing to say at this point. When you have a significant portion of your game's played-time LITERALLY stuck in cutscenes where you have little to no control, it doesn't matter that it's "in-game" you're not playing anything and so of the actual gameplay that exists, it's been talked to death-and-back again. Sorry you missed out on it user, but there's nothing left, not even breadcrumbs.
it's bad because matthewmatosis said so and he's an expert videogame academic
I thoroughly enjoyed watching [streamer of choice] play through this game although it felt more like a movie.
it pretty good, basically a solid 3d metroidvania with heavy story
fucking lmfaaooooo
I for one thought it was a great movie, definitely more compelling than the older games in the series.
It's not a joke it's truth
Ok. It doesn't happen in this webm, and the monsters are far closer to Kratos in it than they are in that one you posted. I'm pretty sure the sprinting -> standard R1 attack in your webm just has extra lunging range before you unlock the actual sprinting R1 move (which animates Kratos to actually leap-attack at them).
Also, how is it functionally any worse for the combat than using lock on + a dedicated distance closer move, like Stinger from DMC? You can do stinger from way further away too, and "aiming" the attack just consists of holding down the lock-on button and flicking between automatic targets
The only reason people shit on GOW4 is PCtards and mad Switchlets. This is a fact.
truly...dare i say it...le kino...
OH NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO
it's gay, but you only have to bring the crystal up to the point he's at at about 5 seconds, then turn left and put it in the socket down that little ramp. Bringing it all the way to the other end is just for some puzzle + fight + lame reward
GODS
WHERE IS MY WIFE'S SON
>blades of chaos dont feel very good to use
>literal same enemies with variations
>literal same “””””””boss fights””””””” with variations
>Freya is so serious that she is boring as a character
>Baldur comes off as annoying because of his bad voice actor selection
>Atreus is not a good character, not saying that because he’s annoying all throughout the game
>unskippable cut scenes
I started this for the first time playing on hard a few months back but dropped it pretty quick as the enemies were just damage sponges and anything other than the standard enemies I was having to hit about 10-20 times to kill.
Does it balance out more later in the game? Or worth playing on normal difficulty?
I wasn't finding it particularly hard, but combat was boring as fuck because I'd just have to repeatedly hit and dodge so much
>and none of you ever discuss it
Because it fucking sucks.
the gameplay is crap
>Jeremy Davies
>bad
Yikescringe
It's pretty much a shitty movie. Yea Forums might give a shit, but I sure don't.
I didnt say he was bad. I only said the selection for the voice actor is bad. The voice is bad for the character
>my wife's son
>Has Spartan rage
spartan's are known for cuckolding
>FPS games don't have camera cuts from your FPS view
whoa I never realized
It does get somewhat better late game as you get more runic attacks and cool down that allows you to end fights quicker but the tedium never really goes away. I just set the difficulty to the lowest because I was getting bored of the combat and the "die in one hit, everything needs 50 hits to die" was getting tiring when the combat isn't that interesting or fun to begin with.
Runic attacks shouldn't have been on a cool down system, they end up just being spammed as soon as they're off cd instead of there being a strategic use to them.
8/10 game imo
>slower, easier over the shoulder combat which makes no sense for melee
>some really slow corridor parts
>unnecessary RPG elements
These are basically my only problems with it, otherwise it's a pretty good game. Looks good, handles good, story is pretty good, and they didn't fuck Kratos up as much as I thought they would.
Majority of cutscenes are skippable just hold x iirc.
It was boring and forgettable.
That guy would drop to his knees and blow Miyazaki and Kamiya, given the chance.
>I was getting bored of the combat and the "die in one hit, everything needs 50 hits to die" was getting tiring when the combat isn't that interesting or fun to begin with.
you are playing it wrong / doing shitty weak combos and weak moves, not equipping good equipment etc. I play on the max difficulty because even on hard enemies feel like they are made out of paper. R1 R1 R1 R1 is an extremely weak combo, and repeatedly throwing light axe throws in the enemy's face is one of the slowest ways to fight
And Yea Forums newfags are known for being obsessed with cuckolding to a disturbing degree.
>can't jump
>Kratos is not raging or screaming
>Not a hack'n slash
What is the point
Remember this? Kek
Yes. What is wrong with it?
His voice sounded like he was constipated for thousands of years.
>Soi of faggotry: the interactive movie
lol
It's a hack 'n slash ARPG
>arpg
>rpg
Ohhh im laffin
Upgrading my gear sure means rpg
The cutscene design from the original was fine.
Where is the vertical combat ? Where is staggering ?
Why does Yea Forums deride this game as a movie, but turn around and praise stuff like Metal Gear and Final Fantasy?
>The cutscene design from the original was fine.
But inferior to the no cut style they have now.
Its kratos kid tho
Different genres ?
Not for a hack'n slash.
Just short of being a masterpiece. If they handled the kid's tantrum a little better and eased up on the backtracking among some other nitpicks I have, it would have been the perfect game. I don't know how PlayStation keeps producing absolute bangers consistently.
That's why I specifically said ARPG, not RPG. It has stats that you can use to make builds focused around strength, runic, vitality, luck, cooldown etc, and your moves unlock special abilities once you get those stats to specific levels (like the guard-break shield attack able to blow everyone away at 250 defense)
>praise stuff like Metal Gear Final Fantasy?
You must be a zoomer or just a snoyfag who doesn't follow shit.
different audiences. mgs fans want a certain game and gow fans want a certain game. if you give gow fans a mgs game fans they might not like it.
>Not for a hack'n slash.
yes it is.
>Where is staggering ?
There is staggering. There is a hidden poise-damage value for every one of Kratos' or the enemy's attacks, and a hidden hyper-armor threshold for how much every attack can absorb before stagger. All then also factored by with multipliers like status effects (such as burning) and level differences vs the player that determine if any given attack is strong enough to break another attack's hyper armor
>Different genres
MGS is an anomaly for stealth games; story is a complete afterthought in most stealth games and they seldom have more than two hours of cutscenes.
>kratos is a god that can die
>god
Yeah... no... not really
Where is the vertical movement ? Why Kratos can't jump like in the other ones ? Why they changed the Kratos VA ?
Just add a normal cutscene like in the other games, I don't give a fuck about the cinematic bullcrap sony and the bearded faggot keep trying to force feed people.
This feels so good.
God of War is pure söy repellent.
>gaslit by the bible
Yikes le sheeplet
nothing in 2018 was even close to being a masterpiece.
>I don't give a fuck about the cinematic bullcrap sony and the bearded faggot keep trying to force feed people.
The mental gymnastics at play here are staggering.
God of war uses no-cut so that the player is never taken out of the experience and it makes the cutscenes less interrupting to the gameplay. Making the combat, world and story centerpiece at all times.
>Where is the vertical movement ? Why Kratos can't jump like in the other ones ?
jumping would be cool but fuck air combos, those are so lame. You just hover in the air safely out of range of all the other enemy's melee attacks while repeatedly smacking your helpless sandbag opponent.
I guess they didn't have jumping because they wanted enemies to be able to bodyblock you instead of just letting you freely jump over them whenever you're in trouble, with no real thought as to your positioning
n-nuh uh..
I find the combat and enemy variety in this game to be really underwhelming. Otherwise I enjoy it enough. It’s a 7.
There's depth to the combat if you actively seek it. Otherwise, you absolutely can just be a brainless button masher and brute force through the game. Good job outing yourself.
>God of war uses no-cut
That is the fucking problem, what is the point of having a nocut if you are going to remove the player's ability to interact with the scene, you are not going to change the outcome of the scene, is a waste of time, you cannot kill your son, or the other characters, is faster and more efficient to just add a cut in cutscene and drop the player directly into the game.
Just design enemies to have ground-air attacks, like in the other games.
Are you actually this retarded? God bless.
How do you manage to be this retarded? Making the gameplay from combat to cinematic to combat smoother somehow takes more time in your mind?
Good fucking lord.
>I find the combat in this game to be really underwhelming.
How? You don't like smashing enemies into walls and throwing them into other enemies like bombs, or tearing them apart as they explode in fiery shockwaves on them? Spartan kicking an elf off a cliff and then turning around to parry a ice reaver like it's a Zack Snyder movie, ground slam counterattacking then doing one of those special underhanded axe stance-switch throws that cut like chainsaws and following up by runic attacking with a huge slam dunk AOE axe plunge? It all flows together beautifully
People get so technical when they want to shit on a game lmao. It's hilarious to go into another thread with people defending a shitty, simple game just because 'it's simple and gets the job done'
More talking about the physics. Cool non-insult based on ignorance tho buddy.
In which ways is the game a masterpiece? I don’t see any aspect of it being ahead of everything else, not in terms of gameplay, not in terms of story, certainly not in terms of visuals. It’s all so very safe, it doesnt try to do anything new
All that stuff is prerendered cuts though. Literally press R3 to awesome. Also those described are pretty much all he does, repetitive as shit after like two hours.
It does take more time though, you can't skip the scripted events that you know it's outcome already
It was a forgettable game at best.
>that you know its outcome already
Full on retard.
>Scripted events
Oh like every interacting in every game ever?
None of the stuff that that guy pointed out is done by pressing R3
>Seething this hard
I guess it hits a little close to home
>It’s all so very safe,
>""""safe""""
Before this game came out, nobody even thought you would be able to fight more than 3 enemies at once because of the camera, and yet . This kind of hack n slash + aimed throws gameplay with this Gears of War style control scheme had literally never been tried ever before.
Also how is it safe to completely change the formula of an established series? You are asking for nothing but criticism from fans for the old formula
What is there to discuss?
>only genuine masterpiece of 2018
That's RDR 2
>All that stuff is prerendered cuts though
The combat animations for your attacks are "pre rendered" yes. They are not generated on the fly like Rockstar's ragdolls for GTA4. Who would have ever thought?
>Full on retard
Are you pretending to be retarded?
>Oh like every interacting in every game ever?
No? I'm talking about a scene that you dont really have any control in, making it a cutscene will make it less "immersive" yes, but will benefit with less time wasted for those who want to replay the game for it's gameplay and not the story
>Hack'n Slash
>Gears of Wars
Fuck off.
See, even now people pretend like it couldn't work when GOW already proved resoundingly that it could
>but will benefit with less time wasted for those who want to replay the game for it's gameplay and not the story
But you can skip them on new game+ you absolute fucking double retard.
>missing the clear sarcasm
I'm not that user, but you established a new stupid
You can't skip the walking/climbing sequences, especially that retarded place that Kratos kept on going to the light in
>Can't skip general traversal and exploration
How many levels of retardation are you on?
Also that is literally a sequence where you are in control if the character so it isn't even a cinematic that takes the control away from you.
Because an Hack'n slash with behind the back camera worked very well, can't jump, can't see enemies behind you, enemies don't attack from behind, the entire genre must be modified to fit the fucking camera that only works for shooters.
Controlling what retard? Pointing forward with the stick And occasionally pressing the interact button for climbing/jumping? Might as well make it a cutscene because it isn't any better than the controls of a David Cage game
Oh. So just like every other game ever then?
No? A platformer will have engaging climbing that you can die in, and doesnt consist of pointing in one direction, and just because other games do it, doesnt mean it's magically okay for all games to do it
I'm not shitting on GoW btw, it's very solid but still has flaws that could've been avoided
I enjoyed this game but i HATE that fucking kid. I HATE HIM
It did work very well. The combat is the best part of the game desu. You have to be uber aggressive with AOE-staggering clustered enemies with your godly might (just like square-square-triangle bouncing enemies for crowd control in the old games), and you actually must think about your positioning / watch your back instead of just being able to jump away whenever things start to get hairy.
>enemies don't attack from behind
They are very aggressive from behind compared to other games, see webm
But why? Do you just hate kids in general?
As far as child companions go he was fine. He acts like a little bitch for one small segment re-climbing the mountain and then is humbled again
GOW1 should never have been a platformer. It's easily the worst aspect of the entire series up until this game completely dropped it. I died 100 times more to falls than anything else in GOW1
He acts like a bitch the entire game. I didnt mind the girl in the last of us, but this kid got on my nerves constantly. Especially when you die and he screams... Fuck i think thats what drove me to madness, cause I started the game off on hard or hardest whatever, and i died a fuckton and every single time that little bitch faggot screams. Id hear that scream over and over and over.
HACKY SLASY GLOWY CHESTY BOY BOY BOY BOY BOY HURRR HURRR MACHO GLOWY CHESTY SLASHY HACKY SIMPLE PUZZLY HIHIHIHIHIHIH FUN
Imagine having taste this shit. Shivers
It isn't a platformer. Every other game has traversal and that is literally what you are complaining about.
Wow so it did a bunch of irrelevant contextual stuff? Wow such a masterpiece. Imagine if it was made by a black man. Just imagine how much more ambitious it would be then.
Git gud and you will stop associating the kid with your frustrations at dying.
Also he's your son and you're kind of a dick of a father who's always acted like he doesn't give a shit about him. Of course he is a little resentful early game, but he still makes an effort to be respectful and keep it to himself. It just comes out sometimes through his bad temper, because he is indeed Kratos' son and has the inner rage
He's a faggot. I was trying to get good but that little faggot kept screaming in my ear.
It isn't a platformer, but it has shit platforming, traversal was better in the older games since at least you were actually playing and not just pointing the stick forward
Except every attack comes from inside the fov angles, no enemy will directly attack the back of Kratos, because the devs designed that way, you don't need to check your back every second to see if there is an enemy behind you, also, shoulder camera removes the ability of having aerial combat, behind the shoulder is the worse possible camera for a hack'n slash.
Why lie? In the previous games you also just pointed the stick forward and pressed jump when you had to jump just like in this game.
>just like in this game
Previous games had you fight even when climbing and you were able to die, this doesn't and I don't think you can even fall or die from them
Why add shallow mechanics that serve no purpose?
>invent a working combat formula that plays unlike any other game, best described as a hack n slash with dark souls button-mapping and manually aimed ranged attacks all done with front-facing OTS camera + movement controls usually reserved for shooters
>"a bunch of irrelevant contextual stuff"
>no enemy will directly attack the back of Kratos
Have you ever played the game?
Are you describing GoW 2018? Because the traversal is shallow as fuck it could've just been cutscenes, they didn't serve a purpose other than waste your time
Nope the old one.
>no enemy will attack you from behind
>in this game that specifically has indicators to tell you you're about to be attacked from behind
Based retard who didn't play the game.
The climbing in nu GOW is good for the level design since you can't jump anyway. It's like ladders or elevators in Souls and it adds all kinds of shortcuts and vertical routes connecting different parts of the areas that wouldn't otherwise be possible.
> it could've just been cutscenes
Nobody would want to have a cutscene play for every time they they touched a cliff face to climb it because that'd feel cheap as fuck and *really* be like the game is ripping control from you, considering not all climbing routes are linear and some are extremely short.
What *actually* should have been made cutscenes are the in-game story based bits like carrying sick Atreus, the boat ride going back to get the blades, carrying the stupid boar, or when you eavesdrop Baldur in Hel.
Wow look at the flashing lights and all the guys flying around! It's just like my favourite movies!
>The climbing in nu GOW is good for the level design since you can't jump anyway. It's like ladders or elevators in Souls
I dont like Souls level design because of how shit it's traversal, which means I didn't like GoW's, though I'd say that it was better than Souls level design.
I just think it was way too braindead, they could've done something more engaging and made you able to die, because with the way it is now, it feels scripted and boring to me
>a "masterpiece" that you have no reason to ever touch after SEEING everything it has once and even that is unnecessary as the game does nothing unique or interesting in the first place
thats a hard cringe and an underage ban recommendation from me "friend"
Who says magnetic combat is bad/unfun/doesn't require skill?
>God of Onions
>masterpiece
It's funny how I know everything about you just from your absolute shit taste in vidya.
>it's like a movie
I don't get this complaint. What's so bad about live, player controlled combat looking cinematic enough that it resembles a battle scene from a movie? As long as it's live and player controlled, it doesn't detract from the combat formula at all and the game would still play the same if it had shitty indie graphics with awful animations.
Even things like the slo-mo on parry have a non-cinematic purpose in granting the player a small reprieve to decide which counterattack to use, or the slo mo on runic attack to let you aim the runic attack. The slo mo on having your guard broken is actually there to give the player one last chance to activate Spartan Rage and save themselves in a situation like this webm.
God Hand doesnt have the attack leap thing though, you're just showing how it has a pretty big hitbox for the enemies
t. newfag
>Forgetting Monster Hunter World
>Forgetting Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate
>Forgetting Spiderman
>Forgetting Super Smash Bros Ultimate
It's a good game, sure, but all 4 of those are superior to GoW
The end result of both having a big hitbox to your attacks and of having move assist to them is the same: you don't have to be as precise with aiming your swings. And that's fine for an action game. No one wants to be whiffing attacks all the time in a hack n slash like they are playing Dark Souls without lock-on. That's why enemies in almost every hack n slash have so much HP, and why you are encouraged to keep comboing and staggering and shredding them endlessly to kill them faster (like when getting your SSS ranks in DMC)
that snek is the only good part
Yeah, what said.
>I dont like Souls level design because of how shit it's traversal
Shit taste. What's so exhilarating about jumping around platforms and stupidly falling to your death? Dying in combat is a much more exciting way to go; climbing is just for getting around the vertical parts of the level between combat encounters
huhuh
Dying in a variety of ways is better than just dying from the same way over and over, shit gets boring, and Souls level design is too restrictive, you can literally just reach this small highpoint if you simply jump or climbed it, but the retarded zombie can't do shit
No way, dying to falls has always been stupid insta-death bullshit in every game, ever since the original Super Mario. And the majority of enemies I've seen (in BB at least) can climb a ladder to chase you. As long as they are bipedal and not gigantic, they can even attack up / down on the ladders while climbing them. The player's ranged damage output in Souls is too weak / expensive to make standing on a ladderless ledge and hitting them below be a good strategy.
In GOW, every combat encounter is to be completed to the end before you start climbing away, because Kratos is Kratos and he doesn't run away from shit. Still you might be able to try and enemies just hit you in the back super fast and knock you off, I can't recall
