I miss the old days when games were released full of content and that was it. Sometimes expansions happened providing months of content, if there was a void to be filled the mod community would fill it and ocasionally re-releases happened with more content, the point is, one big enough release alone could carry a game for months, hell, sometimes years in the most extreme cases. Today, the moment a dev stops injecting new content into their game, the game is fucking dead. Nevermind bug fixes and balance updates are still happening if there isn't a new map or a new character coming out constantly then your game is fucking dead. The truth is, Splatoon 2 isn't dead, ARMS isn't fucking dead either, hell, Splatoon 1 on the Wii U still gets fucking players. A game isn't dead because the devs stopped adding new shit, a game is only dead when it's forgotten. Now stop being a fag and go back to playing cause those maps aren't going to ink themselves.

I can hop into Party Mode and find a match in less time and it takes for me to find one in Splatoon 2. I played deader fighting games on PC.

Splatfests always got me back to this game after lengthy breaks.
Now I will inevitably quit it eventually.

I've quit a long time and only came back to represent Chaos in the final battle as a sort of goodbye to it. Ultimately I just like singleplayer games more, here's hoping Splatoon 3 arrives with an Octo Expansion quality campaign.

Definitely if you like mobas. It's really easy to pick up and being good at the game is based a lot more around skill in fights rather than more obscured more obscured mechanics other mobas have as necessities like wave manipulation and proper item builds. The games will almost never last more than 20 minutes and it really doesn't give you that feeling of needing to play again to prove yourself immediately after losing; so it's great if you want to just do a couple games and fuck off to something else. It's not like League where you know you've lost in the first 13 minutes and spend 20 minutes waiting for them to end, there's a lot more potential for comebacks. The game also often having multiple objectives on the map makes the strategic aspect of it a lot of fun to interact with.
Updates slowing down really hasn't changed anything, which makes a ton of sense when you think about it. Even then it's basically at the same rate as league or dota now.

Basically, Salmon Run is that you have 3 idiots on your team, and you get overrun by endless bosses and smaller enemies, and then you all die because some idiot decided to hide in the far corner of the map.

Nintendo has a policy of one sequel per console (except for Super Mario Galaxy and Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild). Even if said sequel is nearly 20 years too late (Kid Icarus, Punch Out!!), and will be abandoned as soon as the game is released.

Splatoon 2 was not only released at the BEGINNING of the Switch's lifecycle, it more or less defined the entire console (more so than Zelda did). It makes ZERO sense to kill off the game at the height of its popularity, especially with a new, highly publicized console revision just around the corner.

They should add all of the splatfest songs to the normal rotation now.

I blame modern gamers. No one that grew up on gaming like the gamers of the 80/90s did actually value replaying a game by itself. You must, in fact, socialize within a game to justify playing it now, or else no one cares. People today need mulitplayer games, ones that stay relevant and talked about, social. If it's not social, it's "dead" to them.

Replaying the same game over and over again was the norm, due to excessive difficulty (which I want back), and the fact that they only got an average of 3 or 4 new games per year, necessitating the need for replaying (and mastering) them, even if they were bad.

I went to bed last night thinking my side lost horrifically, especially with all of the news tickers saying Order won every 100x round. I could hardly sleep, thinking that I may have picked the wrong choice for the final Spatfest, that the choice I want for the next game would have been nullified.

It was the equivalent of a game-induced oblivion of the mind, slowly possessing it, and causing mental destruction towards personal despair. The agony of ignorance, and the misinformation spread online about the state of each game. It kept going on and on in my mind, endlessly, like a never ending nightmare. It was a horrible torture to endure.

It was 10:30 AM when I finally turned the game on, to see the results...

This desu, 28 year old single guy who lives on his own here. I am going to try to give some advice to zoomers (although I post on Yea Forums so take my advice with a grain of salt). I played the first Animal Crossing on the Nintendo Gamecube when I was 12 years old and I didn't find anything wrong with the game, on the contrary I found it to be pretty fun, but I think the reason I found it fun was because I was still living with my parents and I never had to do chores as a kid because I grew up being relatively wealthy. I never had to take out the trash, wash the dishes, do my laundry, work, all I did was go to school, play sports, and video games. Now as a 28 year old wagecuck who slaves 5 days a week and lives on his own I can tell you that there is absolutely no reason for me to play this game. I would rather complete my chores in real life and try to get a gf than waste my time making virtual animal friends and completing chores which will have no impact on my real life status. Also a word of caution, almost EVERYONE who plays Animal Crossing is a furry, without exception. This is a game that is literally made for degenerates. If there is one thing Nintendo is good at, it's knowing their audience. It's the same reason why Nintendo shows so many WMAF couples in most of their ads. They know most of their audience is too beta to get a white gf.

BotW is a single player game. It doesn't live or die by its currently active player base.

Splatoon 2 has 2 single player campaigns, and everything else is entirely multiplayer based. Once everyone leaves it, it becomes nothing more than an empty shell. I too think it's weird that they're ending the Splatfests when it would require such little effort to keep them going. Thought it was weird with Splatoon 1 too.
That said, this isn't killing Splatoon at all. Splatoon 2 will live on just fine with no more Splatfests, and even Splatoon 1 lived on just fine without Splatfests. Fuck Splatoon 1 somehow even survived in the face of Splatoon 2 launching.

In the end Splatfests are but spice. It's really good spice that should have kept going, but the meat of the game are the ranked modes. The regular multiplayer. Even Salmon Run. Aside from the aforementioned Single Player that is.

While at the same time, people had soemthing to itneract and talk about, AND focus on a specific timed event. My biggest gripe is that it doesn't just take time, it demands time. Flowers wither and die if you don't water them every day. Weeds pop up every day, and they'll just build up if you don't pull them every day. Out of the hundreds of items in the game, you can only get a handful in one day, so if you want to make any kind of significant progress you have to check the stores everyday. Even if you think it's fun you inevitably get bored, but when that happens you can't take a break because your town is going to get progressively shittier, while you miss out on the items that the entire point of the game is to collect. You start playing not because you want to, but because you'll be penalized if you don't. Animal Crossing isn't a chore simulator, it's just a flat out chore.

This. Isabelle didn't cause too much damage within context of the actual mainline series besides taking Rover's job, but she absolutely fucking demolished the fanbase. Like completely ruined it through and through. Man I love Splatoon, it was like the only game I played on my Wii U. I'm already nostalgic for those early Splatoon threads when the game came out. I loved the whole WW2 vibes we got with people complaining about japs, the constant squid cunny posters, and the people arguing about Callie vs. Marie. 2015 feels like it was ages ago.

I also got sick of waiting in the lobby for other a minute, with the lobby repeatedly filling with players and emptying again
only to be booted out with the generic "a connection error occurred" message. Didn't happen often, but it was the worst in the last splatfest compared to all others in terms of matchmaking and technical issues.

I'm in a similar boat. I missed out entirely on S1 for whatever reason. I thoroughly enjoyed the Testfire on S2 and played a few splatfests when it dropped, but after a while I got burned out and never really recovered until this final fest.
I can't shake the sensation of regret in missing all the splatfests, all the fun I had this fest bantering with order and chaosbros... it's a joy I rarely experience anymore and I'm sad I won't be able to feel it for a considerable length of time, until the next Splatoon gets released.

If we're being fair, Chaos v. Order isn't nearly as personal as Calie v. Marie. Especially since, if I recall correctly, one of the sisters invoked Chapter 3, making the superiority of the Victor recognized in a legally binding sense. Which could very well put a damper on the spirits of the other.

Also, splatfests can actually prevent you being able to play with friends properly if it's a regional splatfest rather than a global one. That actually screwed over a session me and a friend planned to play as the euro splatfest and american splatfests were regional (this was around a year ago); thankfully, most of the later splatfests were global instead.

Personally, i hate that the stage has two layers. It's impossible to keep watch of both floor and roof so it's easy for people to sneak by. I also hate uninkable surfaces, they just slow the game down.

The Plaza song is always the same. The last minute of the song played on the final day is a remixed/sped up version of one of the songs that plays during splatfest matches.

Do people really think that without Splatfests the player base will disappear? You can still play Splatoon 1 just fine and that game is in a dead console and hasn't gotten splatfests in years.

I have a bunch of friends who go back and replay Zelda games on a regular basis. Just because a Zelda game gets a sequel doesn't mean the original loses it's value because it's still a different experience. Splatoon, however, is a multiplayer game. If all the players flock to a Splatoon 3, Splatoon 2 has no value anymore unless you're REALLY into the single player for some reason.
