Did this quest ever pan out later on?
Please tell me how to get into this game, I've tried to get into 3-4 times to no avail.
The world and characters seem utterly flat, character building and combat just feels so dull and itemization progresses unbearably slow.
I've enjoyed old RPGs like fallout and modern CRPGs like PoE yet I've never been able to get why this is praised. Any single proper hook should be enough for me to delve deeper but all I ever get is boredom.
You can ask for a favor when you get the body from the temple in a sidequest in the city. Just means you don't need to pay.
Beamdog is a guilty of a number of different crimes. Here are the major ones.
1. The Enhanced Editions are essentially a collection of free mods that had existed for nearly twenty years. Beamdog gathered them all up, slapped "Enhanced Edition" on it and resold it as a new product. There's very very little in the Enhanced Editions that wasn't already out there, and most of it is stuff you don't want (like obnoxious character outlines).
2. The games didn't sell so well and the originals were still far outselling them, even twenty years after their release, so Beamdog had EVERY digital distributor stop selling the originals and ONLY sell the Enhanced Edition. If you want to buy a digital copy of the originals now, they're "bundled" into the Enhanced Edition. Now these scumbags can claim sales from people just wanting to buy the originals as their own.
3. The infamous 600+ bugs on launch. The game is still riddled with bugs (as even a perfunctory glance over their forums show) but the fact that it took nearly two years for them to get a game that had been working fine for 20 years to reach playability after launch is telling of their wild incompetence.
4. This is where we get to the ones that really piss people off. Beamdog couldn't just remaster the game, they had to fuck with the content too. New dialogue for existing NPCs like Jaheira, Viconia, Safana, Kivan, et cetera was written in to make the characters more progressive and leftist friendly. Beamdog shills will argue that "adding content isn't changing content XDDD" but it is when the new content changes the core personalities of the existing characters. This is in addition to adding a slew of their own LGBT (hitherto there were none in Baldur's Gate) NPCs, all flooded with OP attributes and magic items to encourage people to play them despite their cancer.
5. Siege of motherfucking Dragonspear.
You have to understand this was the first attempt at D&D tabletop with actual characters so of course things are going to be a little jank
just soak in the atmosphere & bask in the weirdness of being killed by everything that can move until your second lvl
I'm playing the EE (I'm sorry) with an imported endgame character to get me thru the first game. Will playing it on easy allow me to not get my party killed easily?
I want to get the story out of the first game but I don't want a visual novel and won't be playing it in story mode.
This is an amazing picture, and I fucking love BG1 and 2 to death.
>then
BG2 is better. Just skip to that. The first one's story isn't that important anyway.
>cheat
>dude I really owned that game lol
Good bait
Yes, you can go to her evil goddess' temple in the big city and tell the head priestess to fetch Tenya for you. She'll then give you a quest item for free and peacefully instead of spending a few thousand gold or killing everyone there.
I might use the Tenya mod sometime, I always liked her.
I'm in the same boat. I have easytutu installed and the first game is just agonizingly slow and wooden. It feels like I don't have the patience to connect to it on a mechanical level.
Why are there so many BG threads recently?
Haven't you heard the news user?
Cool, thanks.
best companions for a party?
Custom made
Everyone can work as long as you have the different archtypes covered.
Kivan. Kivan is literally fucking broken.
BG1:
>Jaheria, Viconia, Edwin, Coran, Kivan, Xan, Kagain
BG2:
Aerie, Jaheira, Viconia, Edwin, Keldorn
The one's you made along the way, also what's up with these random NPCs just sleeping around in people's houses?
BG2 sucks compared to 1. It's a faggy jrpg wannabe.
They live there?
>jrpg
it's more along the lines of the old wizardry games then anything
more like ultima
Thanks you all for the advices.
What about multiclass or dual-class? I would like to play as a human so going for dual-class for what I read
For dual classing it's best to start off as a fighter and then dual class at level 7 or 13. Make sure you have the right stats and alignment.
>encounter lich
>dies to skeleton warrior summons off-screen
>lich becomes demi-lich
>cast protection from undead
>dies in two hits from a +5 weapon
Absolutely so, in terms of overwhelmingly powerful combinations. You do yourself no good service if you don't maximize your spell selections with combat in mind. Ranged damage and mages are the sure-fire killers you'll face; warning: every mage you fight will cast confuse/chaos - assume it and prepare for it, ideally using it yourself to open combat barring an undead or dragon encounter.
I can hear the spell chants in my head clear as day.
I keep Jaheira, Minsc, and Aerie, rotating out the others for their character arcs or depending on what I'm currently doing.
I was thinking to start as a fighter(so 15/18 for str, dext and cons)
Berserker/Mage or Kensai/Mage?
Go for 18 in str, dex, and con. Then 18 in whatever attribute is relevant to class you want to dual class into. So 18 int for mage, 18 dex for theif, 18 wisdom for cleric, or 18 wisdom and 17 charisma for druid.
I got it.
Is Wizard Slayer a good choice?
I had forgotten about these guys at the top of the tower
>using your brain
>cheat
ah yes, modern gamers
No, Wizard Slayers can't equip magical gear. The work around is dual class into a thief and choose the Use Any Item ability but that won't be available until throne of bhaal.
Mmm
So a Berserk (fighter/cleric or fighter/mage)
These threads have inspired me to finally play this. Question: How much of a meme is this guide and should it be avoided for a first playthrough?
tamrielfoundry.com
Don't go into it with any mods barring some flavor like herbs added into a town or maybe some classes with races that otherwise wouldn't be possible like halfing paladin of evil
everyone should try the vanilla experience at least once
>Modifying a game so you are outside of the intended ruleset
>Not cheating
Pick one.
just get the enhanced edition bro.
>rules
speaking of rules,I like to think every now & again some players mod their game with crazy race combos
The only mod I would recommend is setting up EasyTutu so you can seamlessly move from BG1 to BG2. There's a mod to restore the BG1 stone UI that you can use while playing that part, and the updated engine makes the game a little less painful to play.
Isn't Tutu buggy? I've heard both have their fair share of bugs but BGT is the least likely to set your game on fire.
>Why, yes indeed I do play BGT/Tutu/EE, what gave it away?
You couldn't beat the guy at the Friendly Arm Inn?
Of course it should be avoided for a first playthrough, it's a meme perpetuated by retards who played the game a hundred times before and don't know what else to do.
What exactly is bad about it? continuity of characters between 1 and 2, restored cut content, running on the better engine and graphical upgrades seems like generally a good thing to have
Anyone else here just straight up not even care about BG3? Like, what are they even going to do, the series is over.
Doesn't matter, there is 0% chance they get it right anyway. cRPG revival hasn't worked once so far.
>play sorcerer
>get to sarevok fight
>summon one gorillion skull traps before triggering the fight
>kite him over the stacked traps and kill him instantly
every time
Have you read my post? Where did I say it was bad?
Just avoid it if it's your first time playing the game.
>running on the better engine
yeah dude, busted BG2 kits in BG
max hp on lvl up
summon cap
removed exp cap
exp for scribing successfully (100% chance lol) and picking locks and disarming traps
>busted
I mean this is really all you need if it's your first time playing through baldur's gate everything else comes way way latter in part II
>veeetha
>*skull explodes*
