I think the digimon animations still look like shit. We need active and engaging full contact battle animations. Are there any turn based games where the characters are moving and performing interesting little sparring animations before the player selects the actual move to use? That seems like the most ideal solution for animating Pokemon battles.

The vast majority of people will tell you that they thought Cyber Sleuth was just slightly above average, but better than they were expecting from a Digimon game in 2016. What are some good Digimon games for total noobs to the franchise?

Pokemon Sword and Shield are great advertisements for the complete edition of Cyber Sleuth.
Like a lot of other people I haven't kept up with Digimon since the early 2000s but the lack of effort in S&S and the constant comparison threads and videos I've seen have convinced me to give Digimon my money instead.

Ok story wise, Gameplay can go from grindy to broken depending on what you do. Early game will give you a decent run for your money. Once you got a team of Megas or decided to exploit the platinum slime mon's for EXP grinding late game becomes a joke unless you up your difficulty, and then the bosses just become assholes.

Survive seems more interesting than any modern Pokemon title.

The game is slick.
The character design, game world and sound direction are all high quality.
The battle system is turn based with no breakers and overly complicated shit. It feels like persona 3 and 4 to some extent but without the socializing garbage.

Anyway, there is a difference between having to animate for about 200 pokemon with each one having 4ish moves that are exclusive to them and can have unique animations as a result, and having to animate for 500ish pokemon and they are pulling from a pool of several hundred attacks that are shared amonst hundreds of other pokemon, and as a result, those animation have to be universal enough to work with all of the other pokemon that can use those attacks.

Survive sounds like it's going to be high tension since they stated emotional states of the characters will affect their digimon evolution so I feel like a fist fight at some point is inevitable. It's an ok top down monster raising simulator game. You capture digimon in fields, feed them and try to keep them alive, then select up to 3 at a time to fight in timed auto-pilot matches. The game has an in-game calendar that shows when upcoming matches are, so you have time to prepare, but also has an in-game clock that will progress as you take care of your digimon/go out hunting for more, meaning that you have to work quickly as to not waste time. It can get really tough if you don't know what you're doing, and beating all the battles in the first year can be difficult if your digimon fuck up in a match.

Gamefreak tries to be lazy and use the same 3D models at almost all times. So ever since X and Y, they've had the groundwork done for several pokemon games.
Cybersleuth on the other hand is built from scratch apart from some obvious things like the engine.

It has worked up until now since each game has been on the 3DS, but since we have a more powerful console, people hope for more. The cartridges can hold even more data. I think if Gamefreak stopped being lazy, a new pokemon game would look and play amazing. They have the money.

It's good for what it is. A lite version pokemon themed Final Fantasy. It's mostly a fanservice game, but the visuals are gorgeous and the chibi characters are cute as fuck.
It also has a pretty good ending.
Both english and japanese voice acting are good and it's just a matter of preference which one you want to play.
It's easy to get into and you can do some complex things with building a team and stacking.

One of the things that makes me the most mad about Pokemon is the change of it's iconic art style to general anime stuff.

My problem with pokemon is that there's literally no excuse.
They could've reached a middleground of some sorts, keep shitty attacks animated poorly, make some iconic attacks look better, and make the really fucking badass/end game/best attacks fully animated.

someone monsterpill me on Digimon games. i fucking loved the show, the origina with that group of kids (tai, joe, mimi, Angemon, etc.). hell, the dub to this day makes me laugh because the writing is actually pretty silly. but I've never played a Digimon game besides Rumble Arena on the PS1. what games are best?

Well I have faith Nintendo can make decent mobile games. I don't like them all that much myself but I do play Go every day and thoroughly enjoy it. I'm not at all enjoying their approach to it though. Taking time away from their main console games to work on these doesn't sit well with me.

Literally game in OP, Cyber Sleuth, is probably one of the best ones. Complete version with the first and second game comes out for Switch and PC soon.
Other than that, Digimon world Dusk/Dawn are pretty decent from what I hear.

The games might not be the biggest earner, but without the games, you don't have as many people buying merch and stuff. How many people played a game and went out to get merch of a favorite? Lots. People also watch the show to see what the new pokemon/characters will be like there, take the games away and it's just another generic anime.

Besides, Nintendo counts on these games to move consoles. If even only a few thousand people don't buy a switch this holiday season because of that dex decision GF made, they're losing money in some sense because it would have cost them less to make a patch for a couple months down the line.

I hate the environment argument here. Pokémon is suppose to be anchored by real world inspiration. They can get whacky with legendaries’ homes and maybe am electrical cave here and there but for the most part it’s suppose to be like standard nature. Digimon takes place entirely within a more fantasy world that has its own rules so they can actually get crazier and more fantastical with the environments

Cyber Sluts has both fantasy and real world environments, and the real world environments still look better than in Pokémon. Although to be fair they are way smaller in scale than Sword and Shield, however, to be fair again, this time for Digimon, Cyber Sluts is a game developed for Vita hardware, and on the Vita itself it still looks a good if not better than Sword and Shield, just low res.

It's not long, it's boring. Random Encounter rate is fucking insanely high, and battles drag on forever. Some quests are an absolute core because they want you to get something or talk to someone something and give you absolutely no hint of where, or how.

I remember getting stuck at the beggining of the game because I had to talk to some NPCs in a specific order or else they'd not tell me what I needed to hear in order to progress, iirc, I had to look up a guide/walkthrough to finish that quest.
